This Friday, March 9 an epic adventure movie opens in theaters across the country, A Wrinkle In Time. A Wrinkle in Time tells the story of a young girl that doesn’t fit in and doesn’t even care if she fits in. She lost her dad and feels so lost herself. She doesn’t know who she is.
Storm Reid plays Meg Murry the main character in this science fiction movie and she will captivate you from start to finish. Chris Pine plays the missing dad, while Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling play the Mrs. who help Meg and her brother, the very charming Deric McCabe find their father.
Ava DuVernay did a fantastic job bringing this adaptation of the book Wrinkle In Time to life. Of course there are a lot of differences but the theme and lessons from the book shine through. The main thing to do when you go see this movie is to try to see it through the eyes of a child. See the movie and understand innocence and that as an adult you’ve probably lost most of it. I know that I’m jaded and see the world with a ton of cynacism and want to be a light for my kids to follow. I feel like this movie has left me feeling like I need to make a difference and be a more positive person.
As far as how old should a child be to take them to this movie. That is again left to each adult to decide for their child. I do believe there is a deep darkness in the movie and it’s going to scare my 9 year old son. However, I also know that he is a sensitive kid and that it’s not going to scar him for life. He’ll watch it, be scared and move on by the time we leave the theater. When in doubt go screen it and then take your kids. You’ll be happy you watched it twice. I was.
