During the Incredibles 2 Press Event Disney provided us with hotel and transportation so we could attend the Incredibles 2 Press Junket. During the Incredibles 2 Press Day we were able to sit down with Dash and Violet Parr the kids of Incredibles 2. But wait, the duo on screen isn’t what you think it would be off screen. For one, Dash is a new child actor, Huck Milner, and Violet is returning to the character after 14 years. Her name is Sarah Vowell, who is known for her bits on public radio’s This American Life. She was chosen for this role years ago because Brad Bird knew her voice was Violet’s voice. If you go back and read all our other Incredibles 2 interviews, you’ll find this is just how Brad Bird does things.
Now, Dash in Incredibles 2 is still that overly curious boy with that amount of energy that only little boys know. My son can run circles around me as he never tires of energy. My son is also the type that will just push buttons until something breaks and then be like I’m out of here, I didn’t mean for that to happen. So I completely get Dash. In our interview with Huck, we wanted to know if he was anything like Dash.
Who Are Dash And Violet?
Huck seems to think, not quite. But he did tell us about a time he showed up to work at Pixar in the Dash costume and he ran around the building, with all of his energy. Brad Bird told us the same story in an earlier interview.
Huck’s favorite super hero other than Dash is The Flash, because he loves how fast they both are.
Sarah says she’s much like Violet because she finds herself to be a wise guy and very sarcastic. And she loved working with Brad Bird because he made things in the sound booth so very easy. Except she said the first take. She said he’s such a good voice actor that he made her laugh every time.
I like being in that room with him. Because I mean, for those of you who get older, you know like the number of people who really believe in you and know what to do with you, it’s a pretty small number. And he has definitely been that for me.
Life Lesson From Sarah to Huck
Sarah told Huck that he is now Dash for life. She said that everyone always wants to talk to her about Violet. She is always told what Violet means to other people and that Violet stays alive because of the fandom. So he needs to be prepared.
What Super Power Would You Choose?
Huck said that his super power would be super speed like Dash. He said that he never beats his cousins or his sisters at anything involving running.
Sarah said, as a middle-aged lady, she would love to have super strength. She can’t even open a rubber jar, but who can. I can’t open those things either, I’m always banging the jar against my counter leaving a dent in my counter and still not open the jar.
What Made You Want to Act?
I’m always really interested in actors because my children have an interest in it. So finding out what inspired Huck was very interesting to me. He said that when he was four his sisters were in plays so he got into plays. He just really loved them so he got an agent and some auditions. He said he just really lucked out.
Huck is really enjoying life right now. He said it was really cool getting to go to D23 Expo and see all the actors from the movie. He also loved his first movie premiere although it was also overwhelming. He said it was pretty fun and that the after party was really fun as well. He also loved listening to everyone’s reactions and laughing.
So if you haven’t already gone to see Incredibles 2, go see it tonight or really soon. We couldn’t get tickets over the weekend so we are going to see it as a family tonight. My kids can’t wait.
