I’m not an empty nester but I have my days to myself and well I did do summer camp all year but I find myself almost in tears as I sit here writing about getting the kids off to school for the first time together. We got up at 7:30, I got in the shower and my husband went down stairs to make a wonderful pancake breakfast for everyone.
Can you believe those two babies in the background turned into what you see in the foreground? Oh my goodness they’ve grown so very very much. And look at that smile on her face, I mean the looks on their faces describe their moods, nervous and super excited.
Sadly, these are the only photos we have from the first day of school. We had breakfast, we got ready and I forgot a few things and remembered at the last minute. I was doing a mad dash to find some of Miles’ school supplies, I came down to rush them to the school bus and he didn’t have his coat on. I argued with him about his coat and then made him put it on and we stepped out the door to see all the other parents walking to their cars and back to their houses.
We missed the bus….
I just won the “WORST” mom of the year award in those 2 minutes I spent arguing with my son over his coat. Who let’s their child miss the bus…on the first day of school…… me!!!!. Well the mood of the whole family changed after that and we spent the rest of the morning arguing as we drove to school. Once I got to school with the kids I worked as hard as I could to change their moods and make sure they had a great first day of school. Turns out they had a great day.
