Ok, you guys had your chance to go see the Incredibles 2 movie this weekend so all bets are off for this post all about Jack Jack. A few months ago, Disney provided hotel and transportation so we could visit Pixar and learn all about The Incredibles 2 and one of the presentations was all about Jack Jack and his amazing powers.
We knew he had powers, that was given to us at the end of Incredibles and during the Jack Jack Attack short. Now, in Incredibles 2 the Parr family learns about Jack Jack’s powers. It turns out his power is possibly limitless. And the animators faced many challenges bringing those different powers to life.
What Are Jack Jack’s Powers
We knew he could turn into metal. He did this at the end of the last movie, and they didn’t bring that power back but I’m sure he can still do it.
So, what powers did we see in the movie? Well we know he has like laser eyes and the family seemed to have a blast using Jack Jack as a laser gun.
He turned into a terror monster whenever he got angry. Bob had to continue to give him cookies to keep him happy.
He can walk through walls
He can become electrical like lightening
He can enter other dimensions
He can multiply
He can teleport
He has super human strength
He can defy gravity and float
He can turn into goo
He can turn into fire
The animators that we spoke to, Supervising Animator Tony Fucile, Effects Supervisor Bill Watral, and Effects Artist Jason Johnston shared with us the challenges for creating a goo effect and the fire effect.
Jason shared with us that they had to go back and forth with animation and the special effect department for the perfect fire effect. They didn’t want him to be scary. They wanted it to be evident that Jack Jack is the source of the fire but not actually on fire. They had to play with the color and where the flames came from. They actually did a lot of research and work to get just the right look.
Another complication that the animators talked about was the goo power. Jack Jack became goo as a way to protect himself against the racoon and for the animators it was all about keeping the shape right. And how does the racoon interact with the goo. The technology is complex and the result is adorable. If you have any questions about Incredibles 2 see our spoiler free movie review. And be sure to let me know if I missed a power, I’m going to watch the movie again Wednesday night and try to take note of any Jack Jack Powers I might have missed. And check out who Bob goes to for help?
