Big Idea Entertainment is proud to release their newest DVD VeggieTales®: The Penniless Princess – God’s Little Girl, available at Christian retail stores August 11th and everywhere August 14th, 2012. In this Veggie-version of the children’s book A Little Princess, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Larry the Cucumber stars as Captain Crew and helps to teach an important lesson about knowing your own true worth to his young daughter, Sarah, even if only through his spirit.
Sweet Sarah has everything a little girl could want. But when life takes a turn and she goes from riches to rags, she has to realize that her true worth lies not in what she has, but what she has in her heart. From having the fanciest room at her school to a plain servant bed in the attic, Sara grows into a wise and confident young lady by maintaining his faith in God and that he loves us all the way we are.
My children absolutely loved this story and they were truly touched by it. Even though they are still very young, they are rather sensitive when it comes to situations that they have experienced in life themselves like losing a teddy bear or somebody treating them meanly. My daughter has watched this movie 3 times and all three times I had to sit along with her as she sobbed when Sara finds out that her Daddy is not returning from war. My girl just adores her father and even days after she watched this movie she would come up to me and reflect …. ‘it sure must have been hard for the princess to not see her Pappa again’. True transformations in movie characters help our children deal with variety of challenges in everyday life and it is amazing to know that my girl was thinking about this story for days.
The characters in the movie – as in all Veggie Tales I have seen before – are perfectly formed to touch and relate to children and to be funny and entertaining in the same time. No better way to learn about true worth than through this story.
