On December 23rd, the new Netflix original series DreamWorks Trollhunters will debut – just in time for Christmas! Trollhunters follows the story of young Jim, who must harness the magical Amulet of Daylight to become a Trollhunter and save the world. I first heard about this show when I visited DreamWorks Animation Studios earlier this year, and it got an excited reaction from all of us in the crowd!
To help you get ready for the Trollhunters premiere on Friday, we’re sharing this fun craft to make your own Amulet of Daylight that you can take on your playtime quests or use as a fun Christmas ornament!
What You’ll Need:
- Cardboard or construction paper
- Scissors and/or an X-Acto knife
- Elmer’s Glue
- Markers and/or paint
- Round objects to trace in various sizes – small bowls, candle holders, or lids work well
- Parental assistance and supervision!
How to Make The Amulet of Daylight:
Trace a circle onto your cardboard and add details on the side with a pencil, using the Amulet of Daylight as a guide for how it should look:
Cut the shape out with scissors.
Cut out a second, smaller circle. Trace an even smaller circle and other shapes onto the cardboard using different objects. We used a penny and glasses to create smaller circles representing the amulet’s gears; we even used the scissors themselves to trace straight lines for the hands of the dial.
Cut those shapes out using an X-acto knife or small scissors.
Use your markers or paints to color in the shapes and add texture.
Glue both pieces of cardboard together.
The bottom and top pieces fit together to form 3D amulet!
If you’d like to use your Amulet as a Christmas decoration, just tape a loop of string onto the back, and hang it on your tree!
