Last weekend I was able to take my kids to see The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature and we all liked it more than we thought we would. No I don’t think this movie is going to be a summer blockbuster but as far as kids movies go this one was pretty good.
It started with all the rodents, park dwellers, the characters from the first movie all enjoying life in the nut shop. They were being kind of crazy and very lazy just eating nuts.
Of course there are two problems here, One, Andie did not agree that they should all be so lazy and two, a good thing never lasts. The nut shop blows up and they all freak out about where their next meal is going to come from. Let alone how will they survive the winter. And if that wasn’t enough, the mayor of their city has decided to turn the park into an amusement park. So how will they make it through this?
They do it with the help of a cute little mouse, and his trained army! Here comes Jackie Chan and he’s not so cute.
THE NUT JOB 2 also features the voice talent of Katherine Heigl (The Nut Job), Jackie Chan (Kung Fu Panda 3), Peter Stormare (Penguins of Madagascar), Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man), Isabela Moner (Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life), and Maya Rudolph (The Angry Birds Movie).

Actually I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie. There was only 1 or 2 small sections where I felt a little bored. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a kid’s movie and I almost enjoyed this one. Which is a big thing. I was able to see that my family was laughing and having a good time. The comedy is a little cheesy and a small bit slapstick. I think it has a few good moral lessons from teamwork to not taking the lazy way out. So if you have time in the next few weeks and want a family movie go see The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature.
