Disney provided hotel and transportation to attend the Wrinkle In Time Press Junket and Red Carpet.
Last week provided an epic moment that people dream about having. Not only were we in the same room with THE Oprah Winfrey, I got to take her picture, and we the 25 bloggers interviewed her. She of course is as amazing as you would expect. She comes across as wise as her character in Wrinkle In Time, Mrs. Which.
In the interview, the wonderful Reese Witherspoon, aka Mrs. Whatsit and the beautiful Mindy Kaling, Mrs. Who were also there to share their wisdom from the movie. I’m not going to share the entire interview verbatim.
I know that if you go out to twitter and look at #WrinkleInTimeEvent hashtag, you will be able to find someone that posted it. I am however, going to share with you some of my favorite quotes and answers. Starting with how Oprah admitted that most likely,
“I raised you all.”
I know every day when I got home from school at 4:00 PM The Oprah Winfrey show was on television.
Wrinkle in Time contains many different themes and life lessons for young girls to take away. There is the lesson of believing in yourself and owning who you are. There is also the lesson for young girls, that you are strong enough and women are an empowering force. In the interview each woman shared her viewpoint on what young girls should or could take away from the movie.
Reese emphasized this,
“When we get together, we create abundance, and and I really- that’s been a driving part of my career, the more I collaborate with women, the more we create for each other. So I think that’s a that’s a concept that we need to put into our little girls’ brains.”
Mindy said that she loved how inclusive the cast was and that it was like nothing she had ever seen. For her, growing up she never saw a little girl on TV or in movies that looked like her. She said she loved Science Fiction but it didn’t love her back and she loves how this movie shows little girls that you can do anything and be anything.
Oprah had so much to say about this for not only girls, but something we can all take away from Wrinkle In Time and that is that we should all “live a life that matters. “ and that she is proud of the imprint she is making with what she did with her show and that people will see her in this movie and remember.
Favorite Quotes from the movie:
For Reese it was when Storm looks at her brother and says,
“I deserve to be loves”
For Mindy it was when storm has fallen down and she’s feeling hurt and her character says,
“The Wound is where the light enters”
For Oprah she said she really loved that quote too, but she also loved the quote where Mrs. Which says to Storm,
“Do You Know how many millions and millions of events had to occur se they did in order for you to be exactly the way you are”
And for Oprah as an African American she has accomplished a lot but everything before her had to happen for her to be where she is today.
Wrinkle In Time has so many levels of complexity. I recommend that you go see it after it comes out on March 9th and go with the heart of a child. See it with the innocence of a child. Don’t be jaded, don’t expect a replica of the book Wrinkle In Time. Just go ready to explore what more our world could be.
