Sony provided travel and hotel to Hawaii so I could attend the Jumanji Press Junket.

So, you should know by now that the premise of Jumanji is that four teenagers, all get detention for different reasons and are asked to clean. As they are moving stuff around they find this mysterious video game, an old school video game. They decide to turn it on and give it a try. They are immediately transported into the bodies of four different avatars. Those avatars are nothing like what each teen is like. Let me clarify that, these avatars look nothing like the teens, and they are supposed to possess skills that each teen sorta lacks. One is supposed to be brave, one is supposed to be sexy, another quite intelligent and that last one was Jack Blacks’ character. He was one of the best parts of the movie and we’ll get into that when we review the movie and maybe a little bit as I share what I learned at the press junket.

For one, we got to interview Jack Black along with, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillian, and Nick Jonas. They were amazing to see together on the big screen and even more amazing in person. They are fun and have great personalities. Jack Black was as funny and outgoing as you might expect. During the interview we learned that each actor spent a brief amount of time working with the teen they portrayed. They were all at a table read together and one thing Jack said was that he knew exactly how to be a teenage girl. This girls was already inside him. It was a hilarious thought and once you watch everything he does you’ll see. Jack Black has a little teenage girl inside of him. When asked how did he channel her, he said, I thought back to what teenage girls were like in the 80’s when I was in school and then realized I had to modernize that a bit. He also asked Madison Iseman (who plays Bethany) many questions, like what kind of music she liked to listen to and what she liked to watch on TV. One of her answers was Teen Wolf. So he had to ask her if she liked Michael J. Fox, and of course that response was who? LOL.
He was also really humble. I found all the actors to be really humble. He gave her a lot of credit too. This movie would never had worked to the degree that I believe it works without the connection between the teenagers and the adults actors. She pulled off her portion too. The directors also said that it was really amazing working with both groups and they were so impressed with how each other portrayed the same character. This movie might seem like simple acting but simple is done well. The characters were believable, funny and real. There were real issues that came to life on the screen and I can’t wait to take my family to the theater to see it again.
Be sure to check out Jack Black’s performance in theaters December 20th
