I ate at several delicious restaurants while I was in Florida, including the well-known Columbia Restaurant. “Florida’s Oldest Restaurant” started in 1905 in Ybor City, and has since spawned several other locations including the one I visited right by Disney in Celebration.
When I’m visiting a new restaurant, I enjoy trying whatever specialty they are known for. So naturally, I just had to order the famed “1905 Salad”, which inspired USA Today to name Columbian Restaurant one of the “10 Great Places to Make a Meal Out of a Salad”! This salad includes iceberg lettuce, olives, yummy cheeses, tomato, baked ham and a garlic dressing with your choice of either turkey or shrimp – I had to go for the shrimp! The salad is brought out in a large wooden bowl and prepared right by your table, which is fun to watch, and even more fun to taste once it is on your plate. I was glad to try their signature salad, and after indulging in that plus yummy tapas like calamari rings, I was stuffed. This is no starter ensalada, that’s for sure!
The Columbia Restaurant in Celebration had a warm atmosphere, a funny and charming waitress, and food that I enjoyed. Someday I hope to return!
