NCircle Entertainment Halloween DVD Review Kooky Spooky Halloween & Tricks and Treats

October 16, 2011 by Momstart 4 Comments

By Reviewer Emily:

When October rolls around, I get my TIVO ready to search out all sorts of Halloween programs on television. There are plenty that I can watch after the kids go to bed: Horror movies, creepy ghost documentaries, Halloween themed cooking and decorating shows, etc. However, there isn’t much for my 2 and 5 year old to choose from. At these ages, many of the kid shows are still too scary or they are just a bunch of garbage. When I was given the opportunity to review NCircle Entertainment’s PBS Halloween DVD Line, I was thrilled since my kids and I both love PBS programming. The two DVDs, Kooky Spooky Halloween and Tricks and 100709_Kooky_SpookyTreats, feature two of our favorite PBS Kids’ shows, WordWorld and The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That.

In Kooky Spooky Halloween, the WordFriends get their share of scares the night before Halloween, when Pig sleep walks and everyone thinks he’s a ghost. Then, Sheep is making herself a super special fairy costume to wear for the big Halloween Party. But what will she do when her WordFriends need pieces of her costume for their own use?

Tricks and Treats features The Cat (voice by Martin Short) and his friends Nick, Sally, Fish and the Things. Meet the eeriest critters you have ever seen, arrived just in time for this Halloween! There’ll be lots of tricks and, of course lots of treats, to share with the animal friends you will meet! 100416_tricks_and_treatsThere’s a coconut crab, spider monkeys and bats, and plenty more fun with The Cat in the Hat!

Each DVD is 30 minutes long and are not only fun for getting into the Halloween spirit, but pretty educational as well. The Emmy award-winning WordWorld, uses rhyming, phonetics and spelling in each episode as well as colorful motion graphics to keep both kids and parents entertained. The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That series is just plain fun with the use of classic Dr. Seuss rhyming and silliness. The animation looks like it jumped right from the pages of the well-known books. Both Kooky Spooky Halloween and Tricks and Treats are big hits in our home and two DVDs I don’t mind watching over and over (and over and over) again!

Kooky Spooky Halloween and Tricks and Treats can be found at your local retailer or online, including www.NcircleEntertainment.com. They typically retail for about $6.99 each (but I recently visited NCircle Entertainment’s website and both DVD’s were on sale for $5.99 each). Be sure to also visit NCircle Entertainment on Facebook for a chance to win in their DVD Giveaway.

Word World The Train Escapade

May 9, 2011 by Momstart 1 Comment

I may be a strict mom but my kids are allowed one TV show each per day exceptions made on my sick days and as needed. I let them select from the shows we’re recorded on the DVR or have copies of on DVD.

My 4YO’s favorite is Word World on PBS kids. He is very interested in spelling and reading, and he’s just plan into the entertainment of watching TV. My 21MO who can’t say many words but can say Word Wolds likes to watch the show for the animals and he wants to be just like his big brother. I like letting my boys watch Word World because it offers lessons in friendship and literacy.

Word World just released a new DVD on May 3, The Train Escapade, which offers four episodes and is 60 minutes long.

– You Can Never Have Too Many Oo’s – Monkey’s roof blows off during a storm and he needs to find an /oo/ to rebuild it. He searches Word World with the help of Duck and Kangaroo. (Season 2, Episode 8 )

– Ducks Hiccups – As the Word World friends try and stay cool on a hot day, Duck get the hiccups from drinking lemonade too fast. His Word World friends try to cure him with some /ă/ words. (Season 2, Episode 4)

– Achoo! – Sheep brings Pig peaches instead of apples for making his pies, but Pig is allergic to peaches! What /ă/words will the Word World friends discover before getting Pig his apples. (Season 2, Episode 4)

– Get Well Soon Soup – Pig makes some alphabet soup using all the letters of the alphabet to help Ant get some rest and relaxation. They build many bedrooms items before getting it just right for ant to get better. (Season 2, Episode 5)

We’ve viewed the episode and though they’re been on TV before my son loves watching the episodes again … and again … and again. The great thing is for only $12.99 (SRP) you can keep these treasured episode for viewing anytime your child wants to see their favorite episode! Word World My Fuzzy Valentine

January 22, 2010 by Momstart 3 Comments

Welcome to the place where words come alive. Word World! Word World has become one of my favorite shows because it encourages the recognition of words. I’m sure my daughter can see that with all that she catches on to.  I was first introduced to Word World when I was at another Moms house. her kids were watching it and it was after I had been working on letters with my daughter. She said ‘e’ and there was an e. I was so excited, she was only 2 years old and recognized the letter. Wow, the same story every time I watch a word world video.

How about a new one, my husband does not like Word World and I can’t for the life of me figure out why? I love watching Word World. It comes on PBS and is put out on DVD’s by NCircle Entertainment. My kids love watching Word World. It’s entertaining and teaches them words with letters and the turns them into pictures. It’s a very visual presentation. Lots of people are visual learners.

This Word World DVD comes with two different episodes.  Both are sure to get everyone in the mood for Valentine’s Day!

My Fuzzy Valentine:

When SHEEP decides she wants to make a special Valentine song for her pal BEAR, she runs into trouble finding the perfect rhyme and makes BEAR a Valentine song with real heart.

The Love Bug:

BUG wants to sign a Valentine for his favorite WordFriend, but he doesn’t know how to write his name. With lots of encouragement from FROG he learns that with a little practice, he can write his name.

My favorite out of the two was watching My Fuzzy Valentine. It was really cute watching sheep try to come up with just the right rhyme and we used this opportunity to start teaching Zoe how to rhyme.

NCircle was kind enough to send us a copy of  My Fuzzy Valentine dvd it retails for only 5.99 US$. (I think this is a great price for this educational show).  A Department of Education funded study has shown that WordWorld improves a child’s literacy skills.

Thanks to NCircle Entertainment we were sent My Fuzzy Valentine, one of the newer WordWorld releases…just in time for Valentines day!

Word World Happy Birthday Word Friends

image Word World where words come alive. I was first introduced to Word World when I was at another Moms house. her kids were watching it and it was after I had been working on letters with my daughter. She said ‘e’ and there was an e. I was so excited.

The other mom said she loves Word World because it brings back memories of when she used to make pictures out of words. The only one I ever did was boy or girl. She had a larger imagination than I did and so did the creators of this show.

I love watching Word World too. It comes on PBS and is put out on DVD’s by NCircle Entertainment.

NCircle was kind enough to send us a preview DVD of Happy Birthday WordFriends. The animals are trying to throw Dog a surprise birthday party. They also want to ensure that he has a cake so they work it out to make Dog a special birthday. This DVD also includes two other stories. One is Pig’s present and the other story is Bit By Bit.

NCircle was kind enough to send us a preview DVD of the newest installment to Word World. Castles in the See featuring Shark. I think Shark is my daughter’s favorite character on this DVD because when shark gets his feelings hurt about his in-ability to dance well on land she wants to know where shark went. I had to explain to her that they other characters hurt his feelings so he went to be by himself. Then they go and apologize and everyone feels better. Kids not only learn words, spelling, letters, they also find meaning in the episodes learning moral lessons.
