What’s for Lunch Wendy? Asian Cashew Chicken Salad, That’s What!

September 18, 2014 by Heather Heyer 114 Comments

Wendy's Salad

Gift card provided.

I have always enjoyed Wendy’s for their Jr. Bacon Cheese Burger and Caesar Salad. So when I was given the opportunity to try Wendy’s Asian Cashew Chicken Salad for MomStart I was ready to hit the Wendy’s right around the corner from my house! As usual the service was great, the kids got their usual and I tried the Asian Cashew Chicken Salad. Whew!

Asian Cashew Chicken Salad

Wendy’s salads are freshly made and this was obvious when I opened the container. The lettuce was crisp and fresh and plentiful. The unique thing about this salad to me was the fire-roasted edamame and spicy roasted cashews (that were not too spicy). Fantastic! How often to you find a fast food restaurant salad with edamame? Or cashews? Right here folks! The chicken was delicious and tender and the vegetables were generous. The dressing for the salad was, Light Spicy Asian Chili Vinaigrette. Blend those together, top it off with a great dressing and you have a great salad!

Those who are light handed with the spicy food, this is for you. This salad was spicy! I mean spicy spicy, need a glass of milk spicy. But don’t let that deter you, it has a deliciously sweet side too. It is one of those spicy sweet, keep coming back for more flavors. You know what I’m talking about.
Those who like the heat, this is for you. You will love this salad!
Finally, a healthy meal with only 280 calories and enough heat to satisfy that inner dragon. Branch out from those burgers and try it. You will be glad that you did!
Has this got you curious? Wendy’s would love to invite you to try it!

Father’s Day Weekend is Get a Frosty. Give back.

June 14, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

By EMILY:

Celebrate with Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend Promotion June 14 & June 15

It’s easy to please my Dad on Father’s Day, pictures of the grandkids and a special meal are all he ever asks for. Of course we slip in a new electronic gadget or tool as well, but what he most looks forward to is simply time with the family. This has become our Father’s Day tradition and in the past few years we’ve added onto that tradition by participating in the Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty weekend promotion. No one in our family can resist a Frosty treat and I must admit the Frosty waffle cone, my personal favorite, is match made in heaven!Wendys_image

For the eighth consecutive year Wendy’s is making Father’s Day even sweeter with its fan-favorite Father’s Day Frosty Weekend promotion.  Throughout Father’s Day Frosty Weekend – Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15 – participating Wendy’s restaurants will donate 50 cents from the sale of every Frosty product to support the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® (DTFA), an organization that works to help find permanent, loving families for the more than 134,000 children in North America waiting in foster care to be adopted.wendyslogo

What better time to spoil Dad and the rest of the family with their favorite Frosty treats?

“Father’s Day is the perfect time to continue my dad’s legacy to help children in foster care find permanent, loving dads (and moms),” said Wendy Thomas, daughter of Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas, who was adopted as a boy.

“In the past eight years, Wendy’s has raised more than $12 million through our Father’s Day Frosty weekend program,” said Liz Geraghty, Vice President, Brand Marketing. “This promotion gives us a chance to rally fans around a cause that’s at the core of Wendy’s, and provide our customers with a sweet way to give back to the community.”

Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend promotion will be underway nationwide for only two days so be sure to make it a part of your Father’s Day weekend! For store locations and to learn more about Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend promotion and ways to give back, visit www.wendys.com/adoption.

For more information about The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption visit davethomasfoundation.org, or call 1-800-ASK-DTFA.

Celebrate Family with Wendy’s #FirstFrosty #Giveaway

June 22, 2013 by Momstart 39 Comments

I am part of The Motherhood blogger network.  The Motherhood and Wendy’s partnered in support of this campaign.  Wendy’s compensated me for participation in this campaign.  However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Remember a few months ago, I was at Wendy’s headquarters and I learned a lot about the man behind Wendy’s and his daughter Wendy. Dave Thomas believed in people. He believed in family and he loved that his corporation was all about providing jobs, and ownership. He also loved family and Wendy is a real girl, a girl he adopted. During Father’s Day, Wendy’s celebrates family in a very special way.

image

At Wendy’s, customers and fans were heading to the restaurant and buying Frosty treats for their families.  Over Father’s Day weekend, when you bought a cold and delicious Frosty, Wendy’s donated 50 cents to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.  Customers could even donate by purchasing a Frosty pin-up for $1.  Wendy’s donated an additional 25 cents to the Foundation for every Frosty Card sent.  In 2012, the Father’s Day Frosty Campaign raised more than $1.4 million.

They not only collected 50 cents from each Frosty purchase (including the new Frosty Waffle Cone), but they also collected donations via Facebook and Twitter.  Wendy’s fans shared their first Frosty memories with the #FirstFrosty hashtag.  For each story, image or video, Wendy’s donated $1, up to $50,000.

One thing they have that you can get now that I really recommend is the small cone frosty. It’s a tiny waffle cone with a frosty inside it. I have a $10 gift card to giveaway to one lucky reader.

Wendy’s Best-Kept Secrets in Salads & Workout in the Park

May 7, 2013 by Momstart 2 Comments

I’m being compensated by Wendy’s and sharing my personal views on Wendy’s and what I learned. While I was attending the Wendy’s Taste Kitchen Blogger and Dietician event, I learned a lot about Wendy’s. One of those things happened to be just how healthy their food is because it’s fresh. They use fresh produce daily, not frozen, not pre-packaged. The salads they make they make each day from a head of lettuce not from a bag of lettuce. Using a head of lettuce actually reduces the chances of having any of those disease you hear about from the lettuce industry. They chop it, wash it and spin it and then they create the different salads they have in their line of amazing salads. Want to know more about their salads? Let’s just ask Wendy. IMG_6163

Or we could just look on-line. Wendy’s launched on April 25 an online scavenger hunt for consumers to scour Wendy’s social media channels to find their salad secrets as a way for consumers to learn more about their salads and you also have a chance to win $25 gift cards. For example, one question from the microsite asks, “Some places claim the fruit on their salads is ‘fresh’, because that’s what it said on the can.”  Searching Wendy’s website, Facebook, Twitter, MyWendy’s App, digital advertising or Instagram will identify the answer:  “We use fresh, hand-picked apples, strawberries and blueberries – not canned – on our Apple Pecan Chicken and Berry Almond Chicken Salads”.  Visit www.wendys.com/secrets for details and to enter the sweepstake (no purchase necessary).

imageBecause Wendy’s wants to raise awareness about their freshness they are sponsoring Self Magazine’s workout in the Park. These events will bring you the freshest deal in town in Central Park in New York City. Wendy’s will be sharing its best-kept secrets in salads, such as hand-leafing and chopping whole heads of fresh romaine every day rather than using bagged romaine lettuce, and serving warm chicken breast, grilled and hand-chopped right in Wendy’s kitchens – unlike other café-like places that serve it cold and pre-bagged at a factory.

WHEN:
Saturday, May 11

11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

WHERE:

Rumsey Playfield, Central Park

Enter at 69th Street & 5th Avenue

New York, NY 10021

WHAT:

Just in time for salad season, Wendy’s is sponsoring SELF Magazine’s Workout in the Park events in Washington, D.C., New York City and Chicago. Wendy’s is the first national restaurant chain to sponsor the event, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.  At this event you, if you’re able to attend will be able to, will be able to see all those things about freshness that I learned first hand like:

  • On-Site Salad Preparation and Sampling: Consumers’ cravings for fresh ingredients will be satisfied with FREE samples of half-sized portions of the popular Apple Pecan Chicken Salad and FREE $5 gift cards to sample any of Wendy’s Garden Sensations® Salads in its restaurants.
  • Interactive Q&A with a Registered Dietitian: Tara Gidus, registered dietitian and nationally recognized expert and spokesperson on nutrition, fitness, and health, will be available to educate visitors on Wendy’s and provide her own secrets for creating and choosing the perfect summer salad.
  • Instaprint Snapshots: Consumers who upload pictures on Instagram® using the hashtag #NowThatsFresh will be able to instantly print and pick up their captured moment at the Wendy’s tent, giving attendees a modern day photo booth!

To LEARN MORE:

Visit wendys.com/secrets for more information on Wendy’s best-kept secrets in salads for a chance to win a $25 gift card*. Follow Wendy’s on Facebook.com/Wendys and on Twitter @Wendys #NowThatsFresh for latest updates from the events.

Wendy’s New Almond Berry Chicken Salad Verdict: Delicious!

July 15, 2012 by Momstart 13 Comments

Wendy’s New Almond Berry Chicken Salad

By: Savannah

clip_image002As a newlywed who is on the go and struggling to maintain the healthy meal options on a budget, I am constantly looking for new ways to eat out, eat cheap, yet eat healthy. Who am I kidding? Almost all of us are on the go and trying to watch our weight, and hopefully not watch it go up! Thankfully, the fast food industry has been somewhat helpful in this area as they are trying to produce healthier options on their menus, yet I still tend to choose the tastier, greasy options. Wendy’s, however, has a really great new choice in their new Almond Berry Chicken Salad. I have to say, even though I love fruit, chicken, and salad, I was a little nervous about combining all of these and adding almonds. I am happy to say, Wendy’s far exceeded my expectations.

As I opened my salad, I was happy to see GREEN lettuce! I get so frustrated ordering salads and getting the nasty brown lettuce, but Wendy’s did not disappoint. This was even a fresh mix of different types, including Romaine, Iceberg, and Spring mix! The satisfaction definitely did not end there, however, because the fruit was ripe and delicious too! This was a pleasant surprise considering Wendy’s specialty is fried food, and they were able to serve me FRESH blueberries and strawberries! The goodness just keeps going. The fresh Asiago cheese, along with the tasty grilled chicken, and my favorite…the Fat Free Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing all combine to create a great experience for your taste buds! Even though I’m not a fan of almonds, they added a really nice touch with the natural sea salt flavoring, and just a bit of crunch.

clip_image004

At only 460 calories and 17 grams of fat for the Full Size Salad, this is definitely a healthier option than the cheeseburger and fries. Even if you are in the mood for a baked potato, you could pair the half size of the salad with a baked potato (as long as you don’t get the cheese and the bacon 😉 ), it doesn’t ruin your healthy choice. Did I mention you can swap out some of the ingredients to make it your own? Granted, it may make it a bit unhealthier, but you could have home-style chicken instead of the grilled, or croutons instead of the almonds, etc. So hopefully, I can turn to this delicious salad option instead of the greasy, fried meals that are oh-so-tempting, yet terrible for the newlywed waistline.

Enjoy a Frosty on Father’s Day For Charity #TreatitFwd

June 15, 2011 by Momstart 282 Comments

A few weeks ago, on Memorial Day, we went to Wendy’s for a family picnic. I purchased the food and we took it to our neighborhood park and one thing my husband specifically asked for was a Frosty. A true Frosty is soft served chocolate ice cream but it’s better than soft served. The consistency is better, it’s thicker than soft serve. We just love them.

Frosty TreatItForwardThanks to  The Motherhood and Wendy’s we’ll be enjoying a Frosty for Father’s Day and we’ll be giving to charity at the same time. Wendy’s will be giving 50 cents from each Frosty purchase to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA) on Father’s Day weekend (June 18 & 19). These donations will be used to benefit the cause of Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, which is a program that helps foster children in need find great homes.

How Can You Make an Even Bigger Difference?

Just follow these simple steps and Wendy’s will make further donations to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

On Twitter, use the Treat it Forward application on www.facebook.com/frosty (Treat it Fwd tab), or use the hashtag: #TreatItFwd (please note, this is modified from the hashtag I sent last week). A donation will be made, by Wendy’s, for each designated tweet or re-tweet made from Treat it Forward.

On Facebook be sure to send a Facebook friend a “virtual” Frosty, or tell friends about Father’s Day Frosty Weekend through the Facebook application found on www.facebook.com/frosty (Treat it Fwd tab); as a result, Wendy’s will make a donation.

Also, from Facebook, on Father’s Day Weekend only (June 18 & 19), offer a “Here’s to You, Dad!” Frosty “virtual toast” by snapping a photo of you raising your Frosty cup to Dad, tagging it with the words “Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend” and posting it to Wendy’s Facebook wall or tweeting it; this, too, will result in a donation from Wendy’s.

Do you Foursquare? Every person who ‘checks in’ to a Wendy’s during Father’s Day weekend only (June 18 & 19) will result in a donation from Wendy’s.

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Aaron B from IL.

This is a project where we received a gift card to Wendys from the Motherhood on behalf of Wendys.

Wendy’s Berry Almond Chicken Salad

June 1, 2011 by Momstart 724 Comments

We were invited to a Wendy’s blogger event this weekend and were unable to actually attend the event for personal reasons as a family. So we decided to have ourselves a quick picnic at home then I could still try the new Wendy’s Berry Almond Chicken Salad. Off to Wendy’s I went alone to purchase everything we needed for our picnic. A quick run through the drive through showed me they are very proud of their new Berry Almond Chicken Salad.

image

The new salad:

image

The new Berry Almond Chicken Salad was very good. I love salads with nuts and the Raspberry Vinaigrette that accompanied it made it even better. The blueberries aren’t however my cup of tea so I handed them off to the kids who LOVE fruit much more than I do. The Berry Almond Chicken Salad comes in two sizes, full and a half size and I found the half size to be just the right size for lunch. Of course, we also had a frosty to share and I had to save a little room for that. The Full size Berry Almond Chicken Salad has only 450 calories before adding the almonds and 50 calorie dressing pack. The half size has only 270 calories so you bet I put on all that dressing and the ENTIRE bag of almonds. MMMM, it was so good. Zoe loves fruit and I didn’t think she would want any but she said, mommy, next time we go to Wendy’s I want to eat that salad as my lunch. And I know she’ll eat it all.

Good food for the family and kids:

image

Not only is the salad option a possibility but Wendy’s also gave their kids meal a makeover. Wendy’s was always difficult for us to go to as a family because the kids meal came with a package of mandarin oranges and it made a mess. Now, it comes with apple slices, milk, or juice. So I’m really excited to be able take the kids there again.

Good fun for the family and kids:

Another change that came with Wendy’s Kids meals was their toys in the bag. The new minute to win it games that come in their kids meals are focusing on bringing kids and family together. Each game presented a new challenge and we all took turns playing each game. Zoe even tried to capture some of the fun with the little camera.

Disclosure: Special thanks to the Motherhood for organizing this wonderful event with Wendy’s and all the other bloggers. We were provided with gift card for our meal, and for the giveaway, along with a stipend to thank us for our time.

Wendy’s A Little Something Spicy Chicken Review and #giveaway

December 22, 2009 by Momstart 421 Comments

I worked with Mom Central a few months ago and received a 20.00 Gift Card for blogging about Wendy’s Boneless Chicken Wings. At the time, I didn’t review them, I just advertised for them, so now I’m going to tell you what I think of them and give 5 5.00 Gift Cards away. I loved them. I had the sweet and sour chicken it was delicious. Just the right crispiness covered in sweet and sour sauce. Yum.

I recently went to Wendy’s and purchased myself a meal and my kids some food and I still had money left over on my 20.00 gift card. I love that one person can eat for under 5.00 easily at Wendy’s. Now Wendy’s is introducing Spicy Chicken nuggets. Oh my mouth is watering and I want to run over there and get some. I love their spicy Chicken Sandwich and their Spicy Chicken wrap. Now you can get just the spicy chicken. MMMMM. I still can’t drive yet from my surgery so I’m stuck here just thinking about them. I wish Wendy’s delivered or that I could walk about two miles, it’s just down the street.

New Spicy Chicken Nuggets are made from real, all white breast meat chicken, coated with Japanese style breadcrumbs and packed with a potent array of spices like red pepper, chili pepper, turmeric, paprika and ground mustard seed. I love it all! Best part is that they are part of the 99 cent value menu.

Now you can try them on Wendy’s!
