Fantasia Fantasia 2000 Blu-Ray 10.00 Off Coupon and Review

December 5, 2010 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Fantasia first came out in 1940 by the animated film producer Walt Disney and was a failure. That’s hard to believe with how popular and beautiful the beloved musical creation has become. It is now known and loved so much it is considered to be a Disney Classic. There were quite a few changes made and variations on it some were completely pulled, but the classic we all know and love is quite a delight to watch and now with the magic of Blu-ray I’m able to share it with my kids. You can share it with yours too, and save 10.00 on Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 at Disney Movie Rewards.

Fantasia Fantasia 2000 Movie Box ArtOn November 30th, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment released FANTASIA/FANTASIA 2000: 2-Movie Collection Special Edition. We can experience the magical legacy of Disney all over again and some of Fantasia 2000 is from the original creation of Fantasia made by Walt. The unique combination of music and animation in FANTASIA and FANTASIA 2000 broke the boundaries of imagination. With the release of Fantaisa and Fantasia 2000 you can, as I will, introduce the kiddos to the animated musicals and dig deeper into the history of Disney with bonus material that includes a tour of the Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, CA and the highly acclaimed Walt Disney & Salvador Dali animated-short film collaboration, Destino! Available for the first time ever on Blu-ray, the seven minute film is the result of a unique collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali begun in 1946, but put on hold due to studio financial concerns. In 2003, Roy E. Disney worked with a team of modern day animators to complete the film as a tribute to Walt’s pioneering artistic vision. Accompanying the highly anticipated short is an all-new feature length documentary entitled “Dali & Disney: A Date With Destino,” which explores the origins of the relationship between Disney and Dali, their collaboration on Destino, and ultimately how the film came to fruition so many years after its inception.

I have always loved watching Fantasia. I haven’t shown the kids Fantasia yet, when we put the movies in we started off with Fantasia 2000 and it had Mickey and the Socerer’s apprentice on it. Miles was so happy to see Mickey. He said

“Look Mom, it’s Mickey…  I Like Mickey Mom”

Zoe said,

“mom, what’s Mickey doing?”

He’s working I said,

“why mom”

and I didn’t really know what to say

Needless to say though, the kids loved watching all of the fanciful scenes, creatures dancing, and music playing. There was one scene though that both of the kids said was too scary. There was umm water I think, or something like Mother nature, and a very evil naughty volcano that hurt her and the forest. Wow, it was intense for the kids but overall, we really liked Fantasia 2000.

Fantasia DVD Bonus Features:

•    New Audio Commentary with Disney historian Brian Sibley
•    Disney Family Museum (running time: approx. 5 minutes) – Walt’s daughter Diane Disney-Miller takes viewers on a tour of the new Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, California featuring a very large exhibit on Fantasia and most importantly, the Schultheis notebook with long lost Fantasia production notes found in more recent years in the walls of a convent.

Fantasia Blu-ray Bonus Features: Everything on the DVD plus:

•    Disney View – This viewing mode maximizes the Blu-ray viewing experience with a 16 x 9 aspect ratio. Original artwork created by a Disney artist, in a style that complements the beauty of the film.
•    The Shultheis Notebook: A Disney Treasure (running time: approx. 14 minutes) –An in depth look at the recently discovered Schultheis Notebook. The detailed log was created by Herman Schultheis, an effects man on Fantasia, and intricately breaks down the film from a technical view. Many of the special effects used in Fantasia were a mystery to modern day animators until this notebook was recovered.
•    Interactive Art Gallery and Screensavers – Viewers can explore the artwork of Fantasia as never before, in HD resolution with unique Blu-ray interactivity and programming.
•    Audio Commentaries from Fantasia Legacy Collection o With executive producer Roy E. Disney, conductor James Levine, animation historian
John Canemaker, and Scott McQueen, manager of film restoration.

Audio commentary with interviews and story note recreations by Walt Disney, hosted by John Canemaker.

Fantasia 2000 DVD Bonus Features:

•    Musicana – Walt’s Inspiration for a Sequel (running time: approx. 10 minutes) – This documentary reveals rarely-seen art created for Musicana, a late 1970’s project intended as a Fantasia sequel with a focus on exploring other cultures via their greatest musical compositions. Viewers are offered a look at the origins of pieces that were started by Walt, such as “The Emperor and the Nightingale” which was then taken over by a very young John Lasseter. Ultimately, Musicana was stopped to begin production on “Mickey’s Christmas Carol,” but the memories of this piece still live on with the animators who conceived it.

Fantasia 2000 Blu-ray Bonus Features: Everything on the DVD plus:

•    Dali & Disney: A Date With Destino (running time: 82 minutes) – This feature length documentary explores the collaborative relationship between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali, revealing how and why the Destino short came to fruition under the lead of Roy E. Disney in 2003 so many years after its inception in 1946.

Air Bud World Pup Special Edition

June 27, 2010 by Momstart 1 Comment

clip_image001Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment released Air Bud World Pup Special Edition on June 15th. They sent us a copy to review. This Special Edition DVD came with a bonus sports bag and the Bonus Features are pretty cool. The Buddies Sports Channel, Soccer Edition hosted by Rosebud and the rest of the Buddies. The Buddies are the puppies that are born at the end of the movie and I think they are featured in all of the new movies. You can also find the Making of Air Bud from the original release.

What did Zoe and Miles think?

They both loved it. It’s fun to watch a movie through their eyes because they ask great questions through out the movie. They laugh and ask who that is and why are they doing that. In Air Bud, they are playing soccer instead of football. Josh, Buddy’s owner likes the girl on his soccer team but asking a girl out on a date is the most difficult thing he has ever done. So when he finally finds the nerve to ask her out he acts like a dim wit and she ignores him forever.

While all of the is going on, Buddy meets Molly and Molly just happens to belong to the girl that Josh likes. With any children’s movie there has to be some conflict so the soccer team gets kicked out of the league, then let back in, and then the puppies get nabbed on the day of the championship game. Can the puppies be saved, and can the team win the game. You’ll have to watch the movie to find out.

Air Bud Golden Receiver Special Edition Review

February 4, 2010 by Momstart 4 Comments

clip_image001We received Air Bud Golden Receiver special edition to review on Mom Start. My entire family is a dog family. We love anything that involves dogs. But I was so confused by the package of this DVD because the air buddies are on it. Well, the air buddies are doing a commentary of how cool they think their dad is playing football. It’s not very long but I did find it kind of cute. They only talk about a few clips from the whole movie, I think they should have done the commentary on the whole movie. The Special Edition of Air Bud Golden Receiver was released on February 2.

This time out, Buddy, the hoop-shooting, hotshot canine, tackles a new sport—football. This special edition DVD features exclusive all-new bonus action: Sports Channel play-by-play quarterbacked by the Buddies!

Here is a cute clip of Buddy in the game.

It was cute clips like this that kept my kids watching. I’m not sure about the entire history of Buddy and his game playing. Did he start out as just playing basketball and then move over to football. He picked up the sport a lot more quickly than I would have for sure. I’m not so good with a football. When I tried it out, I fractured a finger and hyper extended a thumb, so football is not my sport, and I’m hoping my son will avoid it too.

Watching a movie like Airbud Golden Receiver is as close to football as I want both of my children to get. I was so worried that Buddy was going to get hurt too, watching  him play with his owner really just made me worry. But it was really cute. My husband said they must have gone through a ton of footballs making this movie.

So here is the synopsis.

Now you can kick off all-star family fun with the heartwarming Air Bud: Golden Receiver Special Edition, featuring exclusive all-new bonus  action: Sports Channel play-by-play quarterbacked by the Buddies! This time out, Buddy, the hoop-shooting, hotshot canine, tackles a new sport—football. When his teenage owner reluctantly becomes the school’s new quarterback, Buddy catches the spirit and joins the team. Soon, the two find themselves leading the Timberwolves to the state championship. But victory hopes are sidelined when two sinister Russian circus owners take a bite out of everyone’s plans and dognap Buddy for their star attraction. Give three cheers for Disney’s hilarious hit that goes the whole nine yards for outrageous fun and adventure.

I received this DVD from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment for review.

Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You Review

December 30, 2009 by Momstart 4 Comments

clip_image001On Tuesday January 5th, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will release WINNIE THE POOH: A VALENTINE FOR YOU Special Edition on DVD! This Valentine themed animated collection features three Winnie the Pooh stories including a new-to-DVD adventure (“My Hero) a fun bonus feature (“Catch the Love Bug” game), Pooh-themed Valentines cards inside each DVD plus all features from the original. As a bonus, each special edition DVD includes Pooh-themed Valentine’s Day Cards!

We received an advance copy of the DVD to review and as soon as it came in the door my daughter wanted to watch it. Let’s watch Winnie the Pooh. My daughter loves Pooh Bear. I was afraid though that she would be disappointed by this version. This is the classic Winnie the Pooh that I grew up with. I don’t remember any of the stories but they are older stories. They don’t have Darby, but the original Christopher Robin.

There was enough familiarity in it for her to still enjoy and love it and request to watch it over and over again. This DVD included three half-hour cartoons; one of them being, “A Valentine for you”. The story: Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Rabbit see Christopher Robin making a valentine for a girl and find he’s been bitten by a "Smitten" and is lovesick. Worried that he’ll no longer have time for them, and hoping a second bite from the love bug will cure him, they set out on a wild adventure to capture the Smitten. One of the other ones is from "Un-Valentine’s Day". It is simply the first Season 2 episode of "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh", the Daytime Emmy-winning Saturday morning fixture in 1989. I was nine years old then. The story:it’s that warm and wonderful time when Pooh and his pals like to show how much they care. But Rabbit wants to cancel Valentine’s Day because last year, he was up to his ears in the flood of cards that littered the Hundred Acre Wood. Reluctantly, everyone agrees – until someone anonymously sends Pooh a pot of honey. Suddenly, the Valentine rush is again out of control, much to the delight of all — including Rabbit. The third one is  “My Hero”. The story: this new-to-DVD adventure that shows the lesson of two friends truly helping each other. When Piglet saves Tigger’s life, Tigger decides to repay the favor by being Piglet’s servant. But Tigger’s new job causes Piglet more harm than good. When Tigger saves Piglet’s life, his obligation to be the servant is erased and all is back to normal.

I didn’t pay too much attention to it. I was just reminded of when I used to watch it because it started in the real life bedroom that is supposed to belong to Christopher Robin. From their the nostalgic music starts and I’m whisked away into my own imagination and my daughter is soaking it all up for the first time. I thought it was timeless and classic while my daughter found it new. We’re going to have lots of fun with the Valentine’s Day cards that came with the DVD.

Winnie the Pooh: A Valentine for You Special Editionbonus Features include: My Hero New To DVD! From THE NEW ADVENTURES OF WINNIE THE POOH, Catch The Love Bug Game Flying Love Bugs are On The Loose In The Hundred Acre Wood, And It’s Up To You To Catch As Many As You Can.
