With back to school season comes germy season. It’s time to do preventative things to keep your kids healthy this year and I’m happy to participate with Walgreens in the Get a Shot Get a Shot campaign. We’re still on vacation but when we get back we are planning on getting flu shots and I love that when I get a shot at Walgreens we’re going to be giving a shot to someone in need. I love it. It really means a lot to me that I can easily stop for required vaccines, Immunizations for school and back to school items this year, but that every time I get an immunization for my kids at Walgreens……

image

I am helping them Give a Shot to a child in need. When your child (the program is aimed at school aged children, ages 7 and up) gets their school immunizations, like whooping cough or meningitis at Walgreens, they will help provide a life saving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the United Nation Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign.

image

Recently, I went to the Youth Spark competition that Microsoft holds. This is a competition where the greatest minds compete with projects that can make a huge difference in the world. One of my favorite projects was to raise awareness for a disease that there is medicine for where people need vaccines but people have to know there is a need for these vaccines. Shot@Life is a company that helps people in communities much like the communities these students were trying to help. Now I’m no a genius coming up with life saving programs, but I can help by supporting by Walgreens Get a Shot Get a Shot with Shot@Life.

Are you ready to help a child get a shot?

I’m all about saving money, in fact, clipping coupons is actually where MomStart started as a blog. I used to clip coupons and go to the store, like Walgreens and save money and then write about it. I loved writing about saving money and sharing how to use coupons.  I would even clip coupons and give them away as a giveaway. And through the years I try to share with you when different stores start new savings programs, and I’m really happy to share with you the new paperless coupons on the Walgreens App available on iOS and Android.

Walgreens paperless coupons

I have an Android phone and went to the Google apps store and downloaded the free Walgreens app and from the app was able to create my  own account for the savings program. It was pretty easy, it asked for my name, phone number and e-mail address. I looked on the app and found some products I needed to purchase. I needed some Mitchum Deodorant.

WP_20140707_10_53_47_Pro

I also needed some sunblock for my kids.

WP_20140707_10_49_59_Pro

And I don’t like to mention this but I needed some Head & Shoulders for a skin fungus that I have. Shh, don’t tell anyone but you can tell everyone that I got a GREAT deal on it at Walgreens with their ecoupons.

WP_20140707_10_51_36_Pro

While I was there, the products that my husband uses were also on special with coupons so I purchased those as well.

WP_20140707_10_52_42_ProWP_20140707_10_53_15_Pro

The Walgreens Paperless Coupons are manufacturer eCoupons that can be ‘clipped’ to your own Balance Rewards account (that you can apply for from your phone) and redeemed when you purchase the product. To redeem you simply scan your Balance Rewards Card (via the App on your phone, the actual card or by punching in your phone number) at checkout and it automatically is applied. And it worked. I felt so silly because I forgot my phone at home so I had to type in my phone number. I was worried that it wouldn’t have my account information but it was attached to my phone number. All the coupons I clipped the night before were there and I saved. Boy did I save.

So long story short…….you no longer need to use scissors to cut coupons or remember to bring them to the store. Be sure to sync your Balance Rewards membership to the Mobile App to get started. Each paperless coupon can only be used once. Once it is redeemed it will be deleted from your coupon list.

I loved how easy it was to use them.

Live Clean Baby Collection Exclusively at Walgreens

October 29, 2011 by Momstart 4 Comments

I never really considered Walgreens to be the place to go for an eco conscience product, but low and behold they have exclusivity with Live Clean Baby.

Live Clean is a Canadian brand with eco-friendly personal care products with quite a positive reputation there and now is making it’s way to the US with the launch of Live Clean Baby. This simple, environmentally aware collection of products is specially formulated with both mother’s concerns and baby’s sensitivities in mind.

With most eco friendly products the price tag is a little bit higher than you would normally consider for a Tearless Shampoo and Wash that gently cleanses baby’s hair and scalp without drying; a Moisturizing Baby Bath that gently cleanses and moisturizes baby’s delicate skin, a Moisturizing Baby Lotion that leaves baby’s skin soft and smooth with a non-greasy feel; a Non-Petroleum Jelly and a Diaper Ointment that soothes baby’s tender skin and forms a protective barrier against wetness; and a Moisturizing Bar Soap that is enriched with Shea butter to gently moisturize baby’s skin. The price is $7.99

If you’re looking for vegan products then Live Clean Baby is for you. Using only natural, non-irritating, supremely gentle plant based ingredients, Live Clean Baby performs efficiently and gently to keep baby looking, feeling – and smelling – their very best. “The criteria we’ve developed for the Live Clean brand begins with an ecologically responsible point of view,” says Executive Vice President, Michelle Sparrock, referring to the common, eco-damaging ingredients you won’t find in Live Clean. “As resilient as babies are, we know that their developing systems are also extremely sensitive. We wanted to create baby products with nothing extraneous, nothing unnecessary. Everything from the natural surfactants to the fragrance is both minimal and mild.” They use no animal ingredients in the formulations. The collection is also cruelty-free meaning none of the products or their ingredients have been tested on animals. In its sensitivity to the environment, Live Clean is also free of phosphates, known contributors to water pollution. Plus their packaging has been carefully created to be as earth-friendly as possible. The Live Clean containers are recyclable; they are made from “virgin” materials, making them far easier to recycle than many plastics. Shipping cartons are made from recycled materials and even the inks used on shipping cartons are safe for the environment. Local vendors are used to the maximum which cuts down on gas consumption and emissions thus reducing their overall carbon footprint.

It is available exclusively at Walgreens, the nation’s largest drugstore chain with more than 8,000 stores across the country as well as online at Walgreens.com.

Ways to Get Involved with Your Community #WalgreensGives

September 12, 2011 by Momstart 11 Comments

Thanks to Walgreens for sponsoring my writing. Help Walgreens help others! Visit their Facebook page here to learn about their charitable partners and decide which cause Walgreens will donate to with a quick vote.

If you read Momstart regularly you know I’m quite passionate about helping my community. I donate as much as I possibly can from my site. Used things are harder to find homes for but I’m usually able to find somewhere for all of my review items. If you’re not a regular reader then perhaps it’s time you started, especially if you’re interested in ways to help your community. Here are a few quick ideas on where to start.

Food Banks:

cereal

Our local food bank has different kinds of drives all year round. In the Summer time they feed the kids who will be missing a meal because they aren’t in school. As part of Box Out Hunger, we collect as many cereal boxes as we can as a community and give them to to food bank and they give them to families that need to fee their children. At the end of September they do a back to school drive. Yes our food bank collects backpacks and many other school supplies to give to teachers to fill their closets and to students in need of school supplies. They also do birthday bags, this is where you can put together a gift, party favors, cake mix, decorations and everything you need to put together a birthday party for all ages. Another drive is the holiday toy drive. There are so many places the food bank included that collects toys for children in need during the holidays.

Parks:

image

Clean up a park near you. School parks and community parks are in need. As budget cuts continue for schools, playgrounds and sports programs are the first to disappear leaving students with limited space to let their imaginations run wild and put simply, to play! To help kids have a safe and active space, Sprite created Sprite Spark Parks Project; a multi-year commitment to bringing a ‘spark’ to active spaces within communities across the country. Starbucks usually has a clean the park day every year too.

Charity Events:

Charity events are held all year long supporting so many different causes. Pick your cause and help support your charity. We supported the Eastside Domestic Violence Shelter’s charity event by donating a ton of wonderful products for them to auction off. We also gave to Treehouse, Special Delivery, Movember, and the Seattle Mom Prom just to name a few. Find out what’s going on in your community and start making a difference in someone’s life.

Don’t forget to help Walgreens help others! Visit their Facebook page here to learn about their charitable partners and decide which cause Walgreens will donate to with a quick vote. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

I Saved over 100.00 at Albertsons: Here’s How

August 14, 2010 by Momstart 9 Comments

I haven’t been clipping coupons like I used to. I’ve just been too busy with my blog. I know how much I can save when I’m serious about clipping so I sat down the other day and clipped some coupons while checking out the Back To School grocery ads. Albertsons makes it the easiest for me to save money, especially when General Mills is giving Albertsons a kick back and Albertsons shares that kick back in an extra savings event.

For every 10 items you purchase within the General Mills savings event, you receive and additional 5.00 off in savings. I ended up saving 111.81 with combined in store sales and grocery coupons. I spent 51.27 and had five paper bags packed to the brim with groceries.

image

image

All five bags:

image

This is couponing at it’s best. How do I do it? I sign up for coupons at every turn. I sign up for free product coupons when they come out on facebook, or on all of the freebie sites. You could spend a lot of time hunting everything down yourself, or just do a few searches on-line and you’ll find places that do all the work for you. The Coupon Mom does some of the stores for you and shows you how to get everything for free. She isn’t very big in the Pacific Northwest but she does do Safeway, Rite Aid, and Walgreens.

The coupons I used were just from the Sunday inserts in the newspaper, and a few peelies from products in-store. Peelies are the coupons that you find on package inside the store. Boxes of Betty Crocker potatoes ended up being 50 cents a box and so were Old El Paso refried beans. We eat burritos a lot so I just stocked up my pantry on these items that we use often. Making yourself familiar with brands that are under a particular manufacturer also help when trying to maximize your savings for events like this. For more on this topic see Matching ads with coupons!

Live Healthy! Live Longer Giveaway

May 29, 2010 by Momstart 480 Comments

Choose youAccording to the American Cancer Society, about half of all cancer deaths could be prevented if people maintained a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise; avoided tobacco products; and got recommended cancer screening tests.

As busy moms like me know, it’s not ever easy to incorporate all of these healthy behaviors into our busy schedules. I was even told that, a new national survey of approximately 2,000 women ages 25-64 revealed that they are so busy taking care of others, that they do not have any time to think about their own health. To help people put themselves first, the American Cancer Society launched the program Choose You, and even a Choose You Day!

Choose You Day

On May 12, large employers around the country participated in Choose You Day, and encouraged their employees to pledge a $5 donation to the lifesaving work of the Society. The employees were also encouraged to take 30 minutes during the workday to focus on their own personal health. Employees chose from taking a walk, attending a yoga class or participating in a program provided by their employers.

For more information about the Choose You movement, log on to ChooseYou.com.

CHOOSE YOU FACT SHEET

· The American Cancer Society saves lives by helping you stay well; helping you get well; finding cures and fighting back.

· In May 2010, The American Cancer Society launched the Choose You movement, to inspire women to put their health first and make healthy lifestyle choices to stay well and help prevent cancer, while also raising money to support the Society create a world with more birthdays. It also helps women serve as healthy role models for those around them.

· Choose You shines a light on a hidden issue: one in three American women will get cancer in her lifetime.* Yet, about half of cancer deaths could be prevented if people maintained a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise; avoided tobacco products; and got recommended cancer screening tests.

· A new nationwide survey by the American Cancer Society found that an overwhelming 95 percent of women say they need to improve their healthy lifestyle. Yet, surprisingly, more than half (58 percent) admit that they put others’ health before their own.**

· Choose You empowers women with the tools, tips and motivation to put their health first and make healthy lifestyle changes.

· Choose You will reach women nationwide online, at work, in stores and around the community, providing the tools they need to make personal health a priority.

· Ellen Pompeo is the Choose You celebrity ambassador, rallying women nationwide to join the new movement. A busy actress, wife and mom, Ellen knows firsthand how important it is for women to put their health first.

· Sprite Zero and Walgreens are the national presenting sponsors of Choose You. They share the American Cancer Society’s goal of educating women about Choose You and the simple steps they can take to maintain a healthy lifestyle and help prevent cancer.

· Women can join the Choose You movement by logging onto ChooseYou.com and making a commitment to reach a personal health goal.

Sunday Savings – Stick to your Lists matching ads with coupons

January 24, 2010 by Momstart 2 Comments

Make a list and stick to it.

By making a list and sticking to it you are not going to go over your budget. You’ll even save a ton of money. Figure out what you need. Then do a search and find coupons for every item. It is sometimes time consuming but really worth the effort.

Some things on the list for us: (it’s short  because I need to empty out the fridge because we’re leaving for Texas next Monday)

Coffee Creamer

Bananas

Milk

bread

cheese

butter

How to find Coupons:

Get the Sunday Paper and collect every Red Plum, Smart Source, and coupon insert you can find. If the coupons are good and you will use more than one, by yourself an extra paper. You can also purchase coupons from a coupon clipping service. It’s illegal to sell coupons but they are so cheap they are only charging you for their cutting and mailing out of the coupons.

Get as many magazines as you can find. Magazines can be purchased at really low prices at Amazon and even found for free on freebie sites all over the internet. Magazines usually contain samples and more than enough coupons to make the magazine free.

Use the internet. Do a search for the coupons you need. Are you brand dependent or not. If you have to have a certain brand then it’s best to go to that products main website. You can find coupons under tabs called, coupons, and promotions. I usually just type the item name followed by coupon and things pop up. You can even find coupons for fresh food.

Ways to save when there are no coupons available

With bread, if you can’t find a coupon then you can search out your local bakery. We have Franz around here. I remember growing up we had Wonder bread. So I know that they are around. Sometimes the local bakeries for the large bread companies, will even be outlets. They will have bread really cheap. Also, you might look into getting bread at your local Big Box wholesale store (BJ’s, Costco, Sams). We get two loves cheaper than one loaf when we go shopping at Costco.

Walgreens Take Care Clinic #giveaway

June 21, 2009 by MomStart 378 Comments

Walgreens is a great store to find bargains, pick up prescriptions and use coupons. I recently saved 20.00 and spent 12.00. They are also working on helping families save by having clinics you can take your family to for health care. I wrote about it a month ago here.

j0430503Take Care Clinics are offering half-priced camp physicals ($30) for a limited time and free tips for staying healthy so that summer ailments and injuries can be prevented – these exams help to determine if a patient is able to safely participate in typical camp activities and include a complete review of the child’s health history and immunizations to ensure that they are up to date.

In Honor of their program they are sponsoring a giveaway.
