CVS Radiance Platinum Inside & Out #CVSradiance Giveaway

November 16, 2014 by Momstart 31 Comments

This is a partnered post, all opinions are our own.

We received a new line of vitamins and supplements, radiance PLATINUM line that are 100% preservative-free developed by CVS/pharmacy and available only at CVS stores. This new line also offers options that are gluten-free, dairy-free, Non-GMO and some are suitable for vegans and vegetarians which is great because of so many allergies out there. My sister has gone gluten free and my daughter is diary-free. The radiance PLATINUM line is really designed to help shoppers find vitamins or supplements that fit their health goals, no matter what lifestyle needs they might require or prefer. You can view the entire line here at CVS.com.

These are the vitamins and supplements we received.

Vitamin B12

Probiotics

Men’s Multivitamins

Vitamin E Oil

Melatonin

I picked these because of certain goals I have for myself and for my husband. We both need to be eating better and living healthier. We just purchased an elliptical and are going to set up a better routine for our lives. We’re not getting enough sleep or exercise. The Melatonin is for me to help me sleep and I’m going to discuss with my doctor the possibility of giving some to my son. Miles really doesn’t sleep well at night and he wakes up at 6 am no matter how he slept the night before. I want to get back into a routine of getting up at six again too so I’ll be up with him and I can use that extra time to exercise.

I’m also working to go dairy-free and the fact that these are diary-free and gluten free and easy to find at CVS instead of a specialty store is amazing. Why are we making the change? I think my whole family except for me has a sensitivity to dairy. My daughter’s sensitivity is the worst and I forget how many things have diary in them.

My husbands needs to take the vitamins, and I need some Vitamin E for my nails and hair. I love taking B12 for energy and I think I read that it might help blood flow too. And the probiotics are for digestion for me. I like taking vitamins and supplements, I really feel they help me get through my day. And if you need any help picking out vitamins for yourself try the useful tool called the Family Vitamin Center online on CVS.com.

October 25, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

When it comes to getting kids to eat a variety we all know that it can be quite difficult. My son eats anything I cook but hates most veggies and won’t touch fruit unless I tell him that’s all he gets. Most of the time he says he’s not hungry after all which is when I can tell he really is really hungry because then he eats his fruit. Because I don’t want to spend all my time worrying about the nutrition they get I do give them vitamins and always have. image

Nature Made Fish Oil Gummy Vitamins

June 22, 2013 by Momstart 1 Comment

I received a sample of Nature Made Fish Oil because I’m a Nature Made brand ambassador.  I’ve actually tried it before I received this sample from them to review I really don’t like the taste of Fish oil. It’s not in my mouth even that long but I still really dislike the flavor. The nutritional benefits, well I’m not nutritionist and I’ve never had a doctor tell me to take it before but I can list the benefits here that you would imagefind on the Nature Made’s website:

Benefits:

Fish is a rich, natural source of “good fats.” Specifically, two types of Omega-3 fatty acids Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) serve a beneficial role in heart health, cellular function and the body’s normal immune and inflammatory responses.†

EPA and DHA fatty acids are acutely involved in maintaining cellular health. They’re primarily responsible for effective cell function, normal growth and proper development.† Scientifically-supportive yet inconclusive research shows that the consumption of EPA and DHA may also reduce the risk of developing heart disease. Additionally, they can benefit eye function and help maintain healthy triglyceride levels already in the normal range.† Triglycerides are stored fats in the body.

image2 Servings a day:

It’s important to be aware of our Omega-3 EPA/DHA intake because many of us don’t consume enough of these heart-healthy nutrients by eating fish regularly. Due to the importance nutrition experts place on the consumption of EPA and DHA, they have proposed specific intake guidelines.

Current American Heart Association guidelines suggest consuming 2 servings of fatty fish per week, which is equivalent to about 500 mg of EPA and DHA per day for healthy adults, or 1000 mg of EPA and DHA per day for people with documented heart health concerns. Health care professionals may elect to prescribe higher amounts to patients for therapeutic use.

EPA/DHA content varies among commonly-consumed fish. For example, two servings of Rainbow Trout or Sardines provide about 2,000 mg of EPA/DHA, while two servings of Atlantic Salmon provides around 3,500mg. When determining our fish oil dosage of EPA/DHA, Nature Made chose the Omega-3 equivalent of some of the most EPA/DHA-rich fatty fish. Nature Made Fish Oil supplements taken daily for a week provide approximately 3,500 mg of EPA/DHA. This dosage fulfills the amount of EPA/DHA found in the American Heart Association’s recommendation of 2 servings of fatty fish per week.

What to look for in a label:

The label should contain a guarantee of purity and list the specific species of fish used to make the oil. The label should also state the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids not just the “fish oil” amount, and the total daily recommended amount of EPA and DHA should be at least 500 mg.

Nature Made offers pure, concentrated fish oil formulas that taken daily for a week provide the heart-healthy Omega-3 equivalent of 2 servings of fatty fish recommended by the American Heart Association. For optimal absorption, Nature Made recommends taking fish oil supplements with a meal.

Nature Made Fish Oil supplements include: Our Burp-Less varieties are prepared with a special coating to help prevent a fishy aftertaste and odor. Our Fish Oil Pearls are easy-to-swallow and the smallest of our #1 pharmacist-recommended fish oil supplements. Our 100% Vegetarian Omega-3 supplement makes it safe and easy to get the EPA and DHA your body needs if seafood isn’t part of your diet.

My first thoughts were I know it’s supposed to be very good for you but this one I think I will pass on. After reading all of that information, I’m thinking I was wrong and should start taking it every day.

** Based on 2011 Pharmacist Times survey.
†† The ‘Recommended Amount’ equates to approximately 3500mg of omega-3 fatty acids EPA/DHA found in two servings of fatty fish per week, as recommended by leading heart health experts.

† These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

alternaVites Kids Multivitamins Review

April 6, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disclosure: We received samples and this is a post of her experience and her opinions, when it comes to your children be sure to ask your doctor and use your own judgment and do your own research.

By Dayna:

With two picky young eaters in my house, vitamins are a must!  I never know from one day to the next what they’ll eat and what they’ll refuse, so I have to make sure they get the nutrients their growing bodies need in a way that isn’t dependent on them choosing well.

imageThat’s why I was excited to find alternaVites Kids multivitamins!  I was shocked to discover that they contained twice the percentages of each vitamin as the one I was currently giving my kids.  Not only are they good for kids, but the quick-melting powder is fun for them to eat and, according to my daughter, “tastes like candy!”  My kids love to pour it right on their tongues out of the packet, but it could also be easily added to pudding, yogurt, a smoothie, or any other medium your kids would eat.  Even the pickiest eaters will like this vitamin, since it isn’t chalky or gummy like other kids’ chewable vitamins.

Kids will love the taste of the Strawberry Bubblegum and Raspberry Cotton Candy flavors, and moms will love that, unlike many kids’ multivitamins, they contain no artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, preservatives, or high fructose corn syrup.  Now I don’t have to worry so much about what my kids are, or aren’t eating, and that’s a big deal to me!

About Dayna:

Dayna is a children’s counselor turned stay-at-home mom after the birth of her first child three years ago.  She is married and has two beautiful daughters.  When kids permit, she and her husband love to travel, enjoy good food, and spend time with friends. And she is an amazing friend.
