Eating at The Farm Canyons Best New Restaurant in Utah

March 26, 2013 by Momstart 5 Comments

The Farm Cuisine: New American
This recent addition to Canyons Resort features an innovative menu that focuses on locally sourced ingredients from farms and artisans within 200 miles of Park City. Located in the heart of the Canyons Resort Village and overlooking the Ski Beach, this rustic, yet refined restaurant offers both indoor / outdoor dining and features a welcoming lounge with an amazing selection of wines. In March 2012, Salt Lake Magazine named The Farm the Best New Restaurant in Utah.

The Farm Lounge

I’ve eaten there twice and both times I ate in their outdoor dining. In the Springtime it was completely opened up and in the winter it was closed with heating lamps. I can’t remember what I had the first time, which was when I was with my children. I do remember greatly enjoying the wine. The second time I had the Summit County oxtail onion soup with gruyere cheese and French bread. I liked the cheese and the oxtail but I’m really not a fan of onion soup.

The main dishes were all very complicated and “fancy” I think that’s what they mean by calling it “The first fine-dining restaurant offered at Canyons Resort”.  One of my friends ordered a dish that had stinging nettle in it. I thought she was really brave to try it. It was a very green sauce and had an interesting flavor.  My main dish and I can’t remember what it was was really good, I think it was pasta and it had something in it that was fried and absolutely delicious. The design of the restaurant reflects a modern twist on the concept of a farm, expressed through the honesty of materials found in exposed wood, textures and tile. The Farm is located at Ski Beach across from the Red Pine Gondola. In March 2012, Salt Lake Magazine named The Farm the Best New Restaurant in Utah.

If you are a foodie you should try The Farm!

For this photo I used the Sony NEX 3N. The setting is under the Photo Features black and white high contrast. As you can see there is a little bit of dust on the lens, after cleaning off the lense we lose those smudges and get a perfect photo. I could have edited the photo in photoshop to get rid of the smudges but I wanted to show you that if you ever have imperfections like that show up on your photos then you’ll know you need to either clean your lens or the glass of your camera. The Sony NEX series cameras are amazing.

Learning to Ski At The Canyons Resort Park City Utah With Sony NEX

March 17, 2013 by Momstart 12 Comments

I’ve been to Park City three times in the last year. Twice in the summer and finally I’ve had the privilege to be there during the winter snow season. The Canyons resort looks so magical covered in snow, I mean it’s amazing in the summertime too but wow oh wow, how I do love the snow. I was staying with Sony using their cameras to capture all of my fun and new adventures and one of the adventures I had was ski lessons. I’ve been water skiing and it’s been years since I’ve done that. It’s completely different, which was unexpected to me. It’s actually more like roller blading in that you need balance, coordination and strong leg muscles. And I quickly fell in love with the sport!DSC00123

The learning program at Canyons Resort Ski & Snowboard SCHOOL School is unlike any other. Canyons Resort has developed a coaching program that focuses on the individual’s strengths and builds on them to show immediate results. By offering a variety of adult private lessons, group lessons and specialty clinics that will match your ability and specific needs with an instructor who can help you get to the next
level.  They also offer a full selection of programs for children ages 2-14 including private and group lessons, featuring a teacher/student ratio no greater than 3 to 1 for children ages 4-6.DSC00245

They provide a unique learning environment for Children ages 2-12 in their award-winning Ski & Snowboard School.  Along with traditional private lessons, they offer a graduated approach to learning based on age and skills… Canyons Cubs is designed for the youngest skiers (ages 2-3) and provides the right amount of exposure to the sport with a full Day Care. Canyons Cats is tailored to meet the needs of Children (ages 4-6) and offers both ski and snowboard instruction with a student/teacher ratio of no greater than 3 to 1. Canyons Carvers (ages 7-12) can provide instruction for the first-time skier or rider or help them advance to the upper levels of experience.DSC00259

I was in an adult group class we had three students and we were all either very quick studies or it just goes to show you how amazing the instructor was. None of us fell and within and hour and a half we were all bored and really wanted to tackle the green hill (aka the bunny slope). Our instructor didn’t have enough time to take us up that hill. She said that if we had another hour she would have taken us up there by ourselves but our lesson was almost over. She was also very cautious in telling us that we should not go skiing on the green by ourselves, I really wanted to but with her voice echoing in my head I ended up spending my day practicing by myself on the learning hill which has an incline of .4 or something really small like that. Except for the cost of skiing and learning how to ski I would LOVE to take up skiing as a form of exercise and regular family activity. Living in Washington we certainly are close enough to the mountains, but the snow isn’t as nice in Washington as it is in Utah. Utah has perfect snow! DSC00248

Canyons has been voted one of the Top 10 ski resorts in North America in the annual SKI Magazine reader survey.

My stay was part of a partnership with Sony and The Canyons Resort, my lessons were included, my opinions are my own. All of these photos were taken with the Sony NEX 3N.

Pushing Over 5Gs Olympic Park Bobsled Ride Park City With Sony Action Cam #SonyCanyons

March 8, 2013 by Momstart 6 Comments

This last week I spent in Park City Utah with Sony and The Canyons Resort. There I was able to learn about The Resort and all about what’s new with Sony’s Consumer Electronics. They have a new tablet coming out, and lots of cameras. In this video you will see the Sony Action Cam sustaining over 5G’s and attached to my scarf. I was riding the Olympic Park Comet Bobsled in Park City Utah. Check it out!

First you need to know there are three different seats available. They call seat 2 the safe zone and 3 is supposed to be the sweet zone and four is intense run for the hills you don’t want to sit there zone.

DSC00836

I partnered up with two girls that wanted to sit in the safe zone and volunteered for the seat number four thinking it couldn’t be that bad right? Wrong! It’s intense. The whole ride is an intense longest minute of my life ever!.

 DSC00877DSC00874DSC00886

It starts off like, oh wow this is going to be fun, even the first turn isn’t that bad but going into turn two, three, four, suddenly you feel like, is it over yet, is it over yet. Ever couple of seconds the G-force would smash my head into my stomach and the smashing sensation goes through your neck. I started to think it has to be over soon, has to be over soon and suddenly after turn six we started to slow down and I was hoping, no praying to God that it was over and I could get out of this torture device. I got up and was extremely dizzy and shaky. And although I’m not sure if I would ever do it again, I know I would never sit in seat four again, I can proudly say, I’ve taken a bobsled ride and experienced over 5Gs.

Disclosure:

(check with your doctor before doing something like this, Sony paid all travel expenses and for the experience)

Daydreams, Moving Dreams, and Dream-houses

December 2, 2011 by Momstart 4 Comments

By Ashley,

Do you ever find yourself daydreaming about what life would be like if you lived somewhere else? I do… and the more travel opportunities I have, the more I get lost in the daydreams of relocating. The PNW does have its perks, but I could definitely be convinced to leave it behind… especially since it rains ¾ of the year!

Well, recently I was directed to Park’s Edge in Utah. I’ve been to several states recently, and now I’m thinking that I need to make my way to Utah… SOON! This place got me daydreaming about what it would be like to relocate to Utah. Park City Homes is located right on the edge of Park City, UT. You are just minutes away from anything you could imagine! Seriously… fishing, hiking, skiing, bobsledding, shopping, spas, fine dining… no matter what your lifestyle or interest Park City has it!

In my process of daydreaming, I of course had to figure out what my dream-house would look like. Real estate in Utah isn’t a bad investment idea either. Park’s Edge homes start around $296,000, which makes them about $200 a square foot – not bad in comparison to other markets. They even have rentals available if you are one of the lucky families able to spend a season somewhere.

Host to the 2002 Olympics, minutes from the Sundance Film Festival, and home to 3 world renowned ski resorts Park City has so much excitement to offer balanced with the abundance of nature and wildlife surrounding the area.

Thinking of relocating? Wanting to do some daydreaming? Simply choosing a vacation? Check out Park City. You might find just what you’re looking for.
