Universal Pictures is Bringing Les Misérables To Theaters Christmas Day #LesMis

October 19, 2012 by Momstart 12 Comments

Les Misérables stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

clip_image001

Les Misérables is the motion-picture adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year.  Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award®-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.  Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole.  When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

In December 2012, the world’s longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in Tom Hooper’s sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale.  With international superstars and beloved songs—including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More” and “On My Own”—Les Misérables, the show of shows, is now reborn as the cinematic musical experience of a lifetime.

Universal Pictures Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax

February 25, 2012 by Momstart 321 Comments

Zoe adores Dr. Seuss. She’s learning to read and after reading one of his books to her just a few times then she can read the book back to you. Tomorrow I’m going to take the family to an early screening of the Lorax and Zoe and Miles are both super excited. Last time I went to the mall with Zoe saw 4 different posters advertising the movie building her anticipation. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax was transformed into a movie by the same people that created Despicable Me and the movie trailer entices me to go see it.

I started writing this post last night and didn’t finish it. I was coming to put this final touches on it this morning to find that we’re not going to make the screening. Zoe, who was very excited to see this movie is sick. I think she’s more upset about missing the movie this morning than she is about being sick.

This animated adaptation on Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is a 3D-CG feature. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, is a classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. Dr. Seuss always has a larger picture right, a lesson to be learned.

The Lorax movie poster

The animated adventure The Lorax follows the journey of a 12-year-old as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams and I can admire that. He then finds himself discovering the story of The Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Danny DeVito will lend his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler.  Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic youth who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Audrey, the girl of Ted’s dreams.  Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White will portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

Universal Pictures’ Big Miracle starring Drew Barrymore & John Krasinski

January 18, 2012 by Momstart 336 Comments

Who needs a date night? I know I do! I’m working with the new movie Big Miracle and Universal Pictures to give you a date night. Or you could just pack up the whole family for this family friendly film.

big miracle

Inspired by the true story that captured the hearts of people across the world, the rescue adventure Big Miracle tells the amazing tale of a small town news reporter (John Krasinski) and an animal-loving volunteer (Drew Barrymore) who are joined by rival world superpowers to save a family of majestic gray whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle.

clip_image001Local newsman Adam Carlson (Krasinski) can’t wait to escape the northern tip of Alaska for a bigger market. But just when the story of his career breaks, the world comes chasing it, too. With an oil tycoon, heads of state and hungry journalists descending upon the frigid outpost, the one who worries Adam the most is Rachel Kramer (Barrymore). Not only is she an outspoken environmentalist, she’s also his ex-girlfriend.

With time running out, Rachel and Adam must rally an unlikely coalition of Inuit natives, oil companies and Russian and American military to set aside their differences and free the whales. As the world’s attention turns to the top of the globe, saving these endangered animals becomes a shared cause for nations entrenched against one another and leads to a momentary thaw in the Cold War.

Nanny McPhee Returns Review & Giveaway

August 19, 2010 by Momstart 142 Comments

Nanny McPhee Returns is out in theaters starting today, August 20th. I had the opportunity to see an early screening of the movie.

nannymcpheereturns Nanny McPhee, that’s little c big P brought laughter and tears to my eyes. It is a heartwarming family film reminding moms that it’s ok to need help, while also teaching kids great manners. Nanny McPhee Returns is filled with actors that I know and love. Maggie Gyllenhaal (Batman: The Dark Night) plays the mom, Isabel Green that has been left behind to take care of everything while her husband is off fighting the war. Her husband is played by Ewan McGregor and even though his part in the movie is very small, I’m still glad he made an appearance in the movie! Isabel is taking care of three children that have gotten quite out of hand. In addition to taking care of her three children, two of their cousins are about to come live with her as well. Plus, she is taking care of Mrs. Docherty (Maggie Smith from Harry Potter), the store keeper that is getting on in her years and needs to be supervised so she doesn’t put syrup in drawers. Yikes, this mother has her hands full.

That is when Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) comes into her life. Parts of the movie are over the top, but I think it’s all for the kids. Watching the movie in a room full of children reminded me that that’s what they enjoy. Things that are over the top, like dancing pigs, fireworks and talking birds.

When Nanny McPhee arrives she decides that all of these children need to learn five lessons. She uses her magic to teach them how to share, be kind, have faith and helps them save their farm from their uncle who gambled it away. I’m such a sucker for a family film, I was crying at the beginning and at the end. Nanny McPhee always leaves when you no longer need her but you want her and I wanted her to stay as well. Good Byes are so hard!
