The Toys ‘R Us “Fabulous 15” Holiday Toy List #TRUHotToyList

October 1, 2014 by Jessie Leave a Comment

Event admission and toy provided!

I had the pleasure of previewing Toys ‘R Us’ new holiday toy line up. With years in the toy business, Toys ‘R Us employees know their stuff. Rarely are they wrong about which toys are going to fly off the shelves at Christmas because they travel the world looking for the newest and niftiest toys each year. Although this year’s list has a total of 36 toys, 15 of those toys are on the Top “Fabulous 15″ must have list.

Toys ‘R Us features a price match guarantee and new Rewards ‘R’ Us loyalty program as well as a knowledgeable staff that can make recommendations and help with all of your gift-buying needs. They often feature Toys ‘R Us exclusive toys and limited editions. Look for the “Fabulous 15” hot toys display at the entrance of your local Toys ‘R Us this holiday season.

What I liked most about this selection was that it covered a variety of ages, interests and themes. They had creative toys, licensed toys (such as Disney products), animal toys, and innovative toys that inspired the imagination.
The top 15 Toys included:

photo 5Charmazing™ Color Me Up! from Wooky Entertainment Inc.
As a young girl, I was always in awe of products like these. I would look through the Sears Magazines circling the creative do-it-yourself doily makers or sand jars, and beading sets. Charmazing is one of those awesome products that I would have definitely had on my wish list. It comes with a variety of charms and beads for kids to create their own jewelry. Definitely on-par and would be good for any little girl who enjoys crafting or possibly using rubber band looms.

photo 1Disney Frozen Snow Glow Elsa from Tolly
I can see this in a pre-school classroom. It’s a singing Elsa who just wants to let it all go. She’s very cute and good for any Frozen fan.

Doc McStuffins Get Better Talking Mobile from Just Play™
Admittedly I don’t have TV, so I’m not super familiar with Doc McStuffins, but I have seen my students talking about Doc McStuffins and I have seen her costume being sold for halloween. She is a popular role-model for young children that proves girls can do anything they put their mind to! With the Doc Mcstuffins Get Better Talking Mobile, kids can dress up and pretend to be the good Doc herself.

FurReal Friends® Get Up and Go Go My Walkin’ Pup™ from Hasbro®
I remember back in the ‘90s when Go Go came to be. I wanted one with all my heart. I believe one year I actually ended up getting a Go Go walking cat. I really got a kick out of seeing the latest FurReal product and would so love to adopt one to take for a walk down in Central Park. Perfect for families who just can’t have a real pet.

photo 2Hot Wheels® Street Hawk™ Remote Control Flying Car from Mattel®
When I think Hot Wheels, I think of collectible car figurines, but this flying car takes Hot Wheels to a whole new level! This flying car is great for the child who loves gadgets and moving objects. Think of all the Barbie rescue missions and shenanigans you could get into with this!

Imaginext® Battle Rover by Fisher-Price®
Fisher Price has amazing products for young children. They’re creative, and hardy, holding up to play typical of young children. The Battle Rover reminds me of a toy meant for an older child, but built for a younger one. It would be the perfect addition to any child’s car or exploration set.

photo 4LeapTV™ from LeapFrog®
If your child dreams of being Mike TV, then the LeapTV might be the right selection for him or her. Made by Leap Frog, LeapTV has made their product even more interactive by putting you right in the game itself! Using a camera, kids can project their image onto the TV and be a character in the game! With controllers built for small hands this product is perfect for the young gamer.

LEGO® FUSION Town Master from LEGO® Systems Inc.
In the age of information, traditional toys are faced with evolution. Lego fusion has done this in an interesting way. While LEGO Fusion comes with traditional bricks, it also comes with an app so your child can continue building and playing with their LEGO fusion set “on the go.”

photo 5Little Live Pets™ Bird Cage Love Birds Double Pack from Moose Toys™
Little Live Pets is another option for those who can’t have a pet. With a choice of love birds or butterflies, you can have an adorable pet, without the hassle!

MAX Tow Truck™ from JAKKS Pacific, Inc.
This product is amazing. It truly is a mini tow truck. It can pull up to 200 pounds, meaning your child will get into lots of funny hijinks with this toy!

Mutant Mania™ Mutant Masher from Moose Toys™
This is a vehicle for the customize-able Mutant Mania toys. Mutant Mania toys are mutant wrestlers who you can customize by changing different heads, bodies and legs. They even have stretchable limbs! Now they have their very own vehicle to live in!

Skylanders Trap Team™ from Activision
Skylanders is an interactive game featuring figures you place on a board that can appear on your TV. It is one of the most popular games I have heard about in my classroom, and this seasons new figures do not disappoint!

photo 4Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Stretch ‘N’ Shout Leonardo from Playmates Toys®
How can you not love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Leo is built of highly stretchable material and as you pull his arms he lets out a very endearing ninja yell. If you or your child is a Turtles fan, this is definitely worth a look.

photo 2TRANSFORMERS Stomp & Chomp GRIMLOCK from Hasbro®
This new Transformers robot is very cool in either of its transformations. I like the ease of transforming him from dino to robot. This is an excellent transformer with a 1-step transforming button, perfect for new Transformers fans!

Zoomer™ Dino (Onyx) from Spin Master™
I felt so lucky to have received a Zoomer from Toys ‘R Us! As a child I dreamed of being a paleontologist so when I saw Zoomer, I knew he was for me. Here in our house, we call him Charlie and he chases the cats around. For any child who loves robots or dinosaurs, this item is a must-have. For me, personally, it was number one on the top 15 list. Definitely good for elementary school aged children through adult. Please watch my video to see "Charlie" Zoomer Dino in action!

Of the remaining toys on the TRU Hot Toy List, I have selected a few that stood out to me, but the entire list is viewable online.

bowNERF Mega Thunderbow from Hasbro®
This is what I will be arming myself with at Christmas. Nothing brings holiday cheer like hiding in the Christmas Tree with a NERF Mega Thunderbow.

photo 5MiP™ from WowWee
MiP is a robot that you can control and interact with. He is very Wall-E-esque in his design, and would be perfect for a robot fanatic.

photo 3Y-Fliker™ LIFT from Yvolution®
Scooters have really evolved since I was a kid. This interesting 3 wheeled scooter is designed to move with a swish of your hips. It would be a great option for kids who are not yet confident enough for a bike.

photo 4Wacky-Tivities™ Kinetic Sand from Spin Master™

I used to use this Kinetic Sand in my touch table in preschool. It is amazingly entertaining. It’s sand, but with a squishy soft texture that holds its shape without water. We had hours of fun and the kids never got tired of using it. I highly recommend this product for toddler and preschool aged kids who like to have some sort of sensory stimulation.

photo 1Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) from Disney Interactive
How can you go wrong with Marvel Super Heroes? Of course we had to run out and purchase these Disney Infinity characters. The best part of this package is that it comes with an adventure crystal so you can take the Avengers out and save the world!

Which of these toys are on YOUR list this year?

Remembering Christmas Past With Babies R Us #BRUChristmas Giveaway

November 22, 2013 by Momstart 144 Comments

compensated post, opinions are my own.

From now until December 7th, Babies “R” Us will be inviting fans to come shop at their stores across the U.S. each Saturday for gift ideas, holiday shopping tips, deals, giveaways and much more to help families with kids of all ages, especially those with newborns, get ready for the holidays. What they really want to help you experience or remember are your Christmas traditions and something even more special, your babies first Christmas. image

Now I had to dig for this photo of my daughter’s first Christmas. She was born in January so when Christmas came around she was very mobile and almost a year old. We celebrated big by getting her a Step Two Victorian Kitchen that is still used to this day, almost six years and another child later. She’s always been my princess, cuddle buddy and shopping guru.

image

From the time they were both very little we’ve been shoppers for others at Christmas. We love going to the store to purchase things for others and Babies R Us is a great place to get everything you need for a babies first Christmas.

image

Another family tradition is that we love to fill photo frames with a family picture and with pictures from the kids together. One year 20 years from now we’ll have a Christmas tree full of family memories.

image

We love to play with LEGOS

image

And we spend every December playing with Advent Calendars. We used to just refill this one that you see below, but now we go all out with LEGO Advent Calendars. The LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 2013 and the LEGO Friends Advent Calendar 2013 .

Babies R Us wants to know what your babies first Christmas was like and how each of your Christmas’s have gone thereafter. To get you excited about sharing your memories with us we have a $50 Gift Card Giveaway. Follow Them on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest pages.

Toys R Us Top Toy List and Holiday Toy Trends

November 1, 2010 by Momstart 1 Comment

As children begin to write their letters to Santa, and parents start to prepare their own plans for holiday shopping, Toys“R”Us today announced the top four toy trends expected to influence kids’ wish lists and gift-givers’ purchasing decisions this season. Representative of the trends are toys that epitomize collectible cuteness, some of the best international playthings making their U.S. debut, the ascent to18-inch dolls and a resurgence in the popularity of trains. This year’s toy trends were identified after year-long observations of the latest innovative toy introductions at the company’s stores in 34 countries and jurisdictions and an extensive review of data gathered by the Toys“R”Us team of global merchants.

Cute, Cool, Collectible

Whether offering an adorable, endearing appeal or a “cool” factor that makes children want to share with friends, collectibles that come in various styles and characters are driving kid crazes and are sure to top holiday wish lists. The buzz surrounding toys that offer a magical combination of cute, cool and collectible and spur a “gotta have ‘em all” excitement kicked off with the popularity of Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters in 2009 and the Silly Bandz craze this summer. The trend has continued, as kids seek toys they can collect and swap with peers. The following toys are some of the best representatives of the Cute, Cool, Collectible trend:

squinkies· Squinkies™ from blip® toys: These hugely popular, new squishy mini-figures are available in hundreds of styles, ranging from cats and monkeys to princesses and puppies, and come packaged in tiny plastic bubbles mimicking the vending machine surprises that kids love.  Additional accessories and playsets are also available in the expansive Squinkies line, providing children with even more ways to play with their collectible cuties.

Singamajigs1· Sing-a-ma-jigs!™ from Mattel®: These irresistible, quirky plush characters are singing their way into the hearts of kids of all ages. With more than six characters to choose from, and several more to be released soon, anyone interested in an offbeat melody can squeeze the bellies on each of these plush creatures to hear its favorite song, including “Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone,” “When the Saints Go Marching In” and more.

Zoobles

· Zoobles! from Spin Master™: With hundreds of Zoobles from which to choose, kids are clamoring for their favorite customizable, collectible spheres that come with stickers and playsets for added play value. Curled up in little balls, Zoobles spring to life when placed in their “Happitats,” transforming into cute and vibrantly colorful characters whose eyes blink when their heads are pressed.

Zhu Zhu· ZhuZhu Pets® Hamsters from Cepia: The Zhu-niverse™ is expanding and now includes five new varieties of robotic hamsters from which to choose. Including ZhuZhu Rock Stars with their Mohawk hairstyles and funky patterns; the ZhuZhu Wild Bunch comprised of a bunny, hedgehog, skunk and more; ZhuZhu Princess™ hamsters that feature rich colors, royal insignia marks and magic keys to unlock sounds and music; and the Kung Zhu™ clan consisting of Ninja Warriors and Special Forces that come with battle armor, there are 50 different characters in all. Each of the more than three-dozen characters has a unique color and special trademark symbol on its back.

Calico Critters· Calico Critters from International Playthings: The bite-size bunnies, chipmunks, kittens and dozens more woodland critters that make up Cloverleaf Corner Community are flying off store shelves.  Kids are snapping up their favorite mini figures to construct a town in which all of their Calico Critters are joined together. With elaborate play sets such as a four-room, two-story Luxury Townhouse and more to choose from, the options for creativity are endless.

It’s a Toy, Toy, Toy, Toy World!

No matter where children live, their interests often transcend geography. And through the growth of social media and YouTube, today’s kids are able to share those interests instantaneously with their counterparts on other continents, inspiring global excitement. The Toys“R”Us team of global merchants works year-round to identify products that are most popular among children all over the world. Below are just some of the playthings that have captured kids’ imaginations abroad that are now available in the U.S. at all Toys“R”Us stores nationwide:

Tomica Car 2Die-Cast Licensed Cars from TOMY® (Japan): For more than eight decades, TOMY has developed and manufactured highly innovative and quality die-cast cars and trains. Kids and collectors of all ages will love the broad selection of 1:64-scale, officially licensed die-cast cars now available at Toys“R”Us, from which they can choose a Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki or Toyota.

CicciobelloCicciobello Doll from Giochi Preziosi (Italy): After years of success in Italy, this huggable baby doll is debuting in the U.S. for the first time this fall at Toys“R”Us and requests the love and care of nurturing little ones who want to mimic mom and dad. SmartTrike1

Ladybug Smart Trike from SmarTrike (Israel): Whether going on a stroll or learning how to ride a tricycle, little ones will love this red and black-themed three-in-one tricycle that first made its mark in Israel before finding a new home at Toys“R”Us stores in the U.S. Featuring a full metal frame, adjustable handle for parents’ convenience and a built-in clutch to switch control of the vehicle between the parent and child, the Smart Trike is the perfect ride-along item for any growing boy or girl.

Dave the Funky Shoulder Monkey from WOW! Stuff™ (UK): This December, stateside kids will have tons of fun with this shoulder-sitting robotic monkey – one of Great Britain’s hottest toys and a YouTube favorite – when it becomes available exclusively at all Toys“R”Us stores in the U.S. This cute and interactive crowd-pleaser has a gesture or sound for every occasion, which can be controlled by a pocket-sized remote.

Dolls Ascending to New Heights

Dolls featuring 18-inch frames, and with captivating stories to tell, have been earning the affection of little girls seeking to bring home a new “friend.” Much of the appeal behind these larger-scale dolls can be attributed to the way children are able to relate to the backgrounds and characteristics each of them possesses. From dolls that are royal and regal, to others that travel the world, each represents a type of young lady that little girls “dream” to become, and with whom they can create and share adventures of their own. Following are just a few of the doll collections that are ascending to new heights this season:

Princess & Me· Disney® Princess & Me™ dolls from JAKKS Pacific®: Disney Princess fans can now share royal adventures with these five 18-inch dolls, selecting the princess with whom they identify most – choosing from Ariel, Tiana, Belle, Cinderella and Aurora. Introduced earlier this month, these dolls feature sweet faces, silky hair, tiaras and detailed, signature gowns. Girls can even purchase replicas of each ball gown to match their favorite Princess.

JourneyGirl_18inDoll_group4 1· Journey Girls from Toys“R”Us®: Featuring fresh faces, stylish apparel and trendy accessories, these four 18-inch soft-bodied dolls offer kids a “friend” to bring home that they can relate to. Little girls can select the doll that most inspires them, choosing from Alana who has traveled to Rome to explore the arts; Meredith who is always looking for exciting new places to ski and hopes to vacation in the Alps; Callie whose dream is a shopping spree in London’s West End; and Taryn who aspires to someday perform at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

Best Friends Club1· Best Friends Club, Ink. Dolls from MGA Entertainment®: Kids can join the Best Friends Club Ink. to share secrets, fun and friendship. Each of the five 18-inch dolls features cool outfits and highly detailed characteristics that will have little girls intrigued by their unique personalities. Selecting from Addison, the sporty and bubbly BFC, Ink. event coordinator; Calista, the math wiz and club treasurer who gives great advice; Kaitlin, the club’s earth-friendly, artsy designer and newest member; Aliesha, the club chair person and confident, natural leader; and Noelle, Aliesha’s shy, sweet twin sister who dreams of becoming a veterinarian, kids can explore each of the dolls’ backgrounds by logging online to BFCInk.com. The dolls come complete with a fashion-forward wardrobe, BFC Membership Card, BFC, Ink. Journal Book and more.

FAO Doll - Dancer· Classic Doll Collection from FAO Schwarz: Boasting exquisite craftsmanship, each of the four 18-inch dolls in this collection represent the characteristics of unique young ladies – Tess, a ballerina; Nina, a pop star; Avery, an equestrian; and Claudia, a school girl. Whether girls choose Tess with her detailed white swan lake dress with headpiece and bouquet, Nina who dons a fashionable sparkly top, leggings, flats, sunglasses and microphone, Avery with her horse-riding outfit (jeans and plaid top), boots and helmet, or Claudia who is dressed in a plaid skirt, sweater, knee-socks, Mary Jane shoes and backpack, they’re sure to enjoy hours of role play.

Trains on Track to Make a Comeback

Trains have been a mainstay plaything for generations of kids and kids at heart, but this year, they’re experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Spanning various levels of intricacy, many of the train sets available for the 2010 holiday season are already chugging off store shelves. Even Warren Buffett bought himself a brand-new train set – actually, three. The industrialist investor recently snapped up multiple U.S. rail systems for $4 billion. For young train enthusiasts, below is a selection of train sets that can be found at Toys“R”Us for a much more affordable price tag:

· Road and Rails Train Set from TOMY®: The trains in the Tomica line that are making their U.S. debut this fall at Toys“R”Us are direct decedents of TOMY’s iconic Pla-Rail toy train system, which was introduced in Japan in 1959. This particular Road and Rails set is sure to get kids started on their very own train conductor adventures.

Chuggington· Chuggington™ Roundhouse Playset from Learning Curve®: Based on the fun, animated television series for preschoolers, this lights and sounds playset is the perfect Chuggington trainees’ “home.” Featuring four engine bays and a rotating launcher with turntable, kids can rotate the launcher and eject the die-cast train engines – including everyone’s favorite character, Koko – onto the circle of track when adventure calls.

Geotrax Christmas Train· Geotrax™ Transportation System Christmas in Toy Town RC Set from Fisher-Price®: All aboard for a Christmas of WOWs with this Toys“R”Us exclusive radio-controlled train set, designed for the smallest engineers. Featuring more than 20 pieces of interchangeable Snap-Lock™ track, children can create a traditional cityscape or add holiday cheer to Toy Town by making the train travel around the Christmas tree. Kids can even display miniature wreaths and trees around town while Christmas music plays from both the train and controller.

Thomas Mountain Adventure· Thomas & Friends® Thomas’ Mountain Adventure by MEGA Bloks®: Even the tiniest engineers can join Thomas and Percy on an adventure on the Island of Sodor with this 160-piece, Toys“R”Us exclusive construction set. Kids can build Sodor Island to their liking while Thomas and Percy carry passengers and supplies, traveling through tunnels, passing by the water tower and going over the bridge. Children can even use an elevator to bring Thomas to new heights or hit the track switch to move Thomas or Percy into Tidmouth Shed for a relaxing break. All of the pieces can fit into the included storage table.

Tomica Hyper City· Tomica Hypercity Mega Station Set from TOMY®: Kids can ride the rails around Hypercity with this fully automated, Toys“R”Us exclusive train set that mimics the action of a bustling station, as they outfit their city with paved roads, trees, parking spaces and lampposts, as well as a convenience store, or the Tomikid figure, all included. As the train pulls into the terminal, cars yield at the railroad crossing to wait for the train to stop. Once the train resumes speed, traffic automatically begins to move again. Children can even switch the station into manual mode to control the action.

Just a Few Last Minute Easter Basket Ideas

March 31, 2010 by Momstart 3 Comments

If you are like me you have not purchased your Easter Baskets for your kids yet and you probably won’t do anything about it until Friday or Saturday. So where are the sales and what are you getting?

HEXBUG Micro Robotic Creatures would make a great addition to an Easter Basket!

We received one of these little creatures to use as a donation. We gave it to the Eastside Domestic Violence Shelter. I hope that they are able to find a child to give it to or use it in their upcoming auction. The HEXBUG creatures come in 5 different colors and 5 different creatures. We have also tried out the nano. The nano is 9.99 and the HEXBUG’s are 11.99.

Toy Story 1 & 2 Blu-ray Combo Packs, if you can wait until Easter. We couldn’t wait, we purchased them the week they were released. Best of all, they come with movie tickets to see Toy Story Three!

My daughter requested these (Hide ‘Em & Find ‘Em Eggs) and I had an offer to review them, but I just didn’t think I would have the time to play with them before Easter arrived and give them their own post. But according to friends that are reviewing them, they are worth mentioning in an Easter Basket Roundup.

Last spring, parents hunted for Techno Source’s Hide ‘Em & Find ‘Em Eggs™, which sold out by Easter.  These popular electronic eggs that talk, giggle, and make silly noises are back and available at even more retailers nationwide.

clip_image001

Hide ‘Em & Find ‘Em Eggs put a super fun twist on the standard egg hunt game.  Simply press the on/off button on the eggs and hide them in creative places to start the egg hunt fun.  For up to 30 minutes, or until the eggs are found, they will shout phrases such as, “Yoo-hoo, I’m hiding!” and “I’m Over Here.”  Once they are found, open them up to see the cute bunny or baby chick inside and hear them say, “Surprise, You Found Me!” Eggs come in six different colors: pink, blue, purple, yellow, green and orange.  They have enough room inside to hide candy or small prizes and can be hidden indoor or outdoor for year-round fun.  Batteries included.

Hide ‘Em & Find ‘Em Eggs will be available for purchase at Kmart, Rite Aid, ShopKo, Target, Toys “R” Us, Walgreens, Wal-mart, and Wegmans stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com.  Eggs are sold individually ($4.99) and as a 4-pack ($14.99).  Appropriate for children ages 2 and up.

Zhu Zhu Pets are lots of fun as long as you don’t let your children put them on their head. My daughter got her hair stuck in one and we had to take it apart to get her hair out.

zhu

Last Year Zhu Zhu pets sent us the entire set so that we could through a Zhu Zhu Pets party. It was a lot of fun and everyone went home with a pet and one lucky mom went home with the entire playground.

What do Toys R Us, Disguise, and Disney all have in common? #giveaway

October 4, 2009 by Momstart 770 Comments

Toy Story Woody Deluxe Halloween Costume - Size 4-6 - Disguise Inc. - Toys"R"UsIt’s Halloween Costumes for the right price. No wait, it’s even better. Toys“R”Us will carry an expanded assortment of exclusive Disney-themed Halloween costumes for boys, girls and babies to highlight the good works of Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (CAAF).  To showcase their continued support of CAAF in its mission to provide assistance to children affected by HIV/AIDS in the United States and around the world, Toys“R”Us, Inc. and DCP made a joint contribution of $50,000 to kick off the 2009 costume program. I love supporting companies that are giving to the world.

Beginning in September, an expanded line of 25 costumes based on popular Disney characters can be found at Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us stores and online at Toysrus.com, including beautifully crafted costumes resembling Disney Princess characters, Disney●Pixar Toy Story’s “Buzz Lightyear” and “Woody”, Power Rangers, Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger, and Disney Fairies’ “Tinker Bell.” The number of costumes included in this unique program doubles the offering from last year, and each bears a recognizable hangtag featuring the CAAF logo and a united mission statement from both companies.

clip_image001You can find these special costumes in stores by their identifying tags. Online it’s even easier, just head to www.toysrus.com/exclusivecostumes. This year, CAAF will also highlight these costumes in a series of print and broadcast public service announcements that feature CAAF’s national spokesperson Jamie Lee Curtis, and promote the organization’s signature Dream Halloween® events, of which the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund and Disney Consumer Products are longtime benefactors.

.

Now, Toys R Us is sending me a boys size 3 costume to giveaway and since I have no idea what it will be or if I will be able to get it to you on time for Halloween, I’ve decided to keep it and provide one of my readers with a 25.00 Gift Card to use at Toys R Us.
