New Year, New You: A Brighter Smile in 2014

January 24, 2014 by Beeb 7 Comments

Listerine Ultraclean

Products provided for review.

The beginning of a new year usually marks a fresh start and the beginning of resolutions for health and life habits. I know I’ve been working on taking better care of myself this year! I was recently offered the chance to try a line of dental care products, which fit perfectly with my desire to take better care of my teeth and their appearance. I received three items to kick-start my dental routine:

REMBRANDT INTENSE STAIN Stain Dissolving Strips – this is one of the most unique and convenient whitening systems I’ve seen. These are thin strips that you place over your front teeth which dissolve in 5-10 minutes – they’re a little like those minty breath freshening strips. You can go about your business as normal while wearing them – no gagging, no drooling, and nothing to remove. I love these things! You’re supposed to put on a set of strips twice a day – you can space this out, or do both treatments back-to-back; whatever works best for you. I had some tooth sensitivity the very first time I tried them, but no problems since.

To compliment the whitening strips, I also received a tube of REMBRANDT INTENSE STAIN Toothpaste. I’ve used REMBRANDT whitening toothpaste before and liked it, and I appreciate that they have one for intense stains now, because after 30 years of living life, drinking coffee, wine, etc. etc., my teeth have gotten some stains for sure! This is a nice toothpaste – I’ve been using it at least twice a day.

Finally, I received a bottle of LISTERINE ULTRACLEAN to round out my new routine. This stuff burned my mouth like crazy the first time I used it, but you get used to it over time and I like the thoroughly clean feeling it gives me.

So I’ve been using all of these products for 7 days – the Stain Dissolving Strips are billed as showing results within 3 days with full results in 2 weeks. Do my teeth look whiter? I really think so. Nothing is going to give me Hollywood pearly whites short of a professional treatment, but any improvement is a good thing. I did take comparison photos, but I must say that it is incredibly difficult to photograph your own teeth – and who wants to see a close-up of my crooked teeth anyway?! 😉 I’m pleased and I would definitely continue using all of these products, including the Stain Dissolving Strips, because it’s the easiest tooth whitening system I’ve used yet!

Beyond that, all of these products made my teeth feel a lot cleaner, which is more important than how they look superficially. These have helped cut down on nasty plaque, which will also have the knock-on effect of making my teeth appear less dingy, too! This is an easy routine to maintain and it feels great.

How do you keep your smile bright?

Be a Tooth Fairy Hero: Tom’s of Maine Dental Health Giveaway

January 14, 2013 by Momstart 20 Comments

Honestly, we haven’t had Tom’s of Maine toothpaste in our house for a while, and when we received some today my daughter was so excited she went straight to the bathroom to brush her teeth. I couldn’t believe it. She loves Tom’s of Maine toothpaste, they both do really. Tom’s of Maine has asked me to share their Be a Tooth Fairy Hero competition. The sweepstakes and thinking of the tooth fairy reminds me of when Zoe lost her first tooth last year, and how excited she gets every time she loses a tooth, so much so that she pulled her second tooth all on her own.

Her first tooth:

The first hole in her mouth:

Toothpaste Stages and when is it time to change

November 22, 2009 by Momstart 55 Comments

DoraTheexplorer When talking to my stepmother about brushing my children’s teeth she told me that they didn’t brush our teeth until we lost our baby teeth. Hmm. That wasn’t the advice I was looking for when I needed to know what to do about my kids teeth.

So we have deferred to the professionals here.

As a baby you are supposed to wash their gums. To do this you can use a wash cloth or buy a gum massager that you can place on your thumb or index finger and you can clean their gums. You can continue to do this until they reach the ability to spit. Or you can start using stages toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Colgate sent me some toothpaste and toothbrushes to try out. They didn’t need to because Colgate already is our favorite brand of toothpaste that we use regularly. On our kids we haven’t purchased in fluoride toothpaste yet. That is why we are going to donate the supplies that Colgate sent to us. The supplies that they sent to us where Dora the Explorer, loved by both my daughter and my son. We have purchased the Dora toothbrushes before, but since we have to replace them every three months, I sometimes purchase what’s cheapest, so right now we have Darby from my friends Tigger and Pooh which is another brand. Sorry Colgate, I’m one of those shoppers that purchase what’s on sale.

For years, Dora the Explorer™ has taken kids on countless journeys, helping them overcome obstacles and solve problems on the way to a common goal.  Now, in celebration of a decade of Dora, kids can explore a new challenge – discovering the path to healthy smiles with Dora the Explorer™ Toothpaste and an assortment of Toothbrushes from ColgateÂŽ.

Specially designed for kids ages 2 and up, the Dora the Explorer™ Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste in a Mild Bubble FruitÂŽ flavor is clinically proven to defend against cavities while strengthening and protecting developing teeth.  Plus, the Dora Toothbrushes featuring soft bristles and non-slip cushioned handles are available in two styles – one specially designed for kids with developing teeth, and the other featuring a small “battery-operated” rotating head that cleans teeth and gently sweeps away plaque. The combination of the Dora the Explorer™ Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste and Toothbrushes will encourage brushing and have both kids and moms singing, “We Did It! ÂĄLo hicimos!”

The Dora the Explorer™ Toothpaste ($2.79) and Toothbrushes ($2.49 – $5.99) are available online (www.colgate.com/kids) or at major retailers across the country.

We have been using toothpaste that is considered to be pre-brushing stage. It has no fluoride but has some flavor that helps encourage brushing. From there as they learn how to spit the Dentist has recommended that we move over to fluoride toothpaste.

Then we will also move them over to an electric spinning brush because our dentist has also recommended that an electric toothbrush will help keep their teeth cleaner. The spinning action removes more plaque than hand brushing.

One final note from me, we love adding things like toothbrushes to stockings. It makes them quite happy to receive a character toothbrush. So it’s easy to buy a necessity and include it in Christmas fun.

Colgate is also wanting to provide one of my readers with a package of goodies.

(close to a 15 – 20 value depending on if you receive an electric toothbrush or not)

Colgate Loves Halloween, Brush your teeth love your smile #giveaway

We took our kids to the Dentist yesterday and they both received a’s. Kids need to start going to the Dentist before they are age three and most kids don’t go until they are starting to get their permanent teeth. However, if we’re talking about a great smile adults need to be taking care of their teeth too. I’m not a good example for my kids in that area. UUGGH. I hate going to the dentist but I do brush my teeth and even though I couldn’t convince Colgate to send me something for this post, they are still my favorite brand of toothpaste. They are the only kind my husband will use.
