A DIY Mardi Gras Skull Center Piece

February 28, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Miles got to pick the table setting a few weeks ago because his birthday is next. Poor guy only has two months when he has the next birthday. We have some interesting pieces that we found around the house and on sale at Target, Kohl’s and Cost Plus World Market. Zoe and I had a really great mommy daughter day doing the shopping for this table, and Miles had a great time putting it together on the table.

The first thing we found at our house was the glass skull. The Glass skull was a Vodka glass. Andrew got it as a Christmas present. He said that vodka was AWFUL so stay away from Vodka’s in skull heads, but it is fun to have this skull that we can use as a center piece for certain holidays like Mardi Gras and Halloween.

IMG_0866

What do you need to make the skull green or purple or black for Mardi Gras?

You need beads of course. After Christmas my husband found beads 1/2 price and using beads in glass jars adds a lot of color and pizazz to your center piece. Also seen in this photo is a green table cloth I bought at Macy’s. Then you’ll see a whole bunch of beads, we purchased those at Target 1.00 a strand after Christmas. And the shells, coasters and fish are from Cost Plus World Market on sale after Valentine’s Day.

IMG_0865

I tried to make Miles do all the beads himself; but he was frustrated and his sister was more than happy to help. I still gave him credit for doing as much as he did and look how proud he is of his DIY project!

IMG_0872

This is our first year to do anything Mardi Gras themed. I’m working on a fun hat too, but it’s coming along really slowly. Do you do anything for Mardi Gras?

Corn Pancakes with Praline Bacon and Honeyed Butter Recipe

September 19, 2012 by Momstart 21 Comments

As I’m getting ready for another press trip I wanted to share a recipe a day with you as I try to do every day. So Archer Farms, a Target brand has given me permission to share with you their recipes and as I love having pancakes I thought this one looked worthy of sharing. af-Corn-Pancakes

½ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup finely chopped pecans
2 tsp. Archer Farms Caribbean Jerk Seasoning

Bento Box Monday: Target’s Market Pantry & Archer Farms

September 3, 2012 by Momstart 12 Comments

Most of the Bento Box Monday’s are going to come to you guys from Summer, she’s the genius behind the idea. Bento Boxes give parents a way to have variety for lunch and many kids love having choices.

IMG_5351

We created peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, with a side of freeze dried banana slices and cucumber slices.

Or you could just give the kids peanut butter and jelly and things to dip into them. My kids would eat all kinds of veggies having those two “dips”.

Ingredients:

Archer Farms Freeze Dried Cinnamon Apple
and Banana Slices
Archer Farms Natural Peanut Butter
Archer Farms Strawberry Preserves
Archer Farms Organic Raisins
Whole grain crackers

Directions:

Arrange ingredients in individual compartments
of Bento Box or similar divided container.

And for delicious, fun snacks-on-the-go, consider these new Archer Farms and Market Pantry items:

· Archer Farms Sweet Corn Freeze Dried Vegetables: Green Peas, Sweet Corn and Salted Edamame ($3.49 each)

· Archer Farms Freeze Dried Fruit in Banana Slices and Cinnamon Apple Slices ($3.49 each or $7.99 for multipacks)

· Market Pantry Nutrition Bars in Chocolate Mint, Fudge Graham and Chocolate Peanut Butter ($3.99 each)

· Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix Bars ($2.69 each)

This information was provided to us by Target, they also sent us a few samples.

How to Throw a Cars 2 Party With Mattel Discount Code

July 5, 2011 by Momstart 10 Comments

My son is all about Cars, the last party we had for him was just us but we still decorated in Cars. Now that’s it’s all about Cars 2 I imagine that next year we’ll be using Cars 2 as our theme. When throwing any kind of party first you have to start with decorations and when it comes to kids, it’s best to go over the top. We checked out our local Target and found a great selection of Cars 2 decorations, cars 2 invitations, cars 2 party favors and cars 2 thank you cards.

Photo_C674F262-CDC0-06CC-95A4-EFA2D4A525FA

Now what kind of goodies will you serve?

I have two really great Cars 2 themed ideas for snack time at your Cars 2 party. You have to check out these Cars 2 Whitewall Tire Cookies and these Tow Mater Cupcakes. Both are sure to be a hit.

tow-mater-cupcake-recipe-photo-260x260-bakerella-10_img_8833

After you get all the decorations and snacks taken care of, you’ll have to think of some games. Since Cars 2 is about traveling the world it’s a great learning opportunity with your friends and play mates. Get out a world map and discuss different cities and what you would like to see and visit. Example:

image

· Lightning McQueen and Mater visit the streets of Japan and Europe throughout film. Develop a wish list of places to visit and chart out a dream road trip using stickers and a world map.

Another Cars 2 party game idea is to make license plates. With cardstock paper and glitter glue, kids can create their own license plate design. And one finally idea I had was for you to let each kid pick a double digit number and they can decorate it pin it to them. Then you can take them outside for a race around your front or back yard.

And you can’t have a Cars 2 Party without Cars 2 Toys right?

Mattel has provided us with this discount code to use for the rest of the summer.

· CARS2BL
Offer: 20% off all Cars 2 items until 8/1
Limitations: One user per customer, limit 5 units per order

Here are some Cars 2 Toys and activities you can do at your party with them.

Race for “World’s Fastest Car” Title

· Perform Lightning McQueen’s stunts from the movie by loading two Cars into the Cars 2 Tokyo Spinout Track Set set’s dual launchers to watch the vehicles zip, whirl and race to victory.

image

Secret Agent Man

· Invent spy missions and take Cars 2 Secret Spy Attack Finn McMissile with you to crack the case. Loaded with top secret spy weapons, firing missiles, sound effects and thrilling transformations, kids will become super sleuths.

image

Ka Chow!  Cars 2 Grand Prix

· Recreate scenes from the Cars 2 movie, like the final World Grand Prix Championship race scene. Create a race course from point A to point B. Line up the Lights and Sounds Die-Cast Assortment Cars and designate someone to start the race with the checkered racing flag.  Kids push their cars to the finish line.  The real working headlights, revving sounds and signature phrases of the Die-Cast will make it feel like Lightning McQueen and friends are really speeding around the course to take home the win.

If you’re anything like us you already have a house full of Cars die cast cars. So I thought it would be fun to have a quick conversation about die cast cars with Miles.

We received samples from Mattel to facilitate this review.

November 6, 2010 by Momstart 104 Comments

tryfirstVivabox is a unique experience for anyone. With vivabox, you purchase the box and it comes with a few themed items and then with a gift card for the recipient to finish it off by ordering things they want within that theme that you purchased for them. For example, give mom a wine tasting experience. She will receive, a Gift card for a six bottle collection of wines, book: wine’s spectator’s essentials of wine and 12 issues of “Wine Spectator” Magazine. Then she can go on and pick the wine collection of her choice at vivabox. The variety is pretty good in my opinion. TryFirst, powered by vivabox, is like all of the other Vivaboxes. They are all two gifts in one. The Try First is s a sampling of the season’s hottest perfumes and then a second gift where the receiver gets to redeem a gift card for a full bottle of their favorite scent!  TryFirst is available for the holidays this year exclusively at  CVS and selected Target locations nationwide and offers between 6 and 8 perfumes in one box. The coupon inside was for 20.00 off of a perfume of my choice at CVS.

Getting Organized with Mead and Target Giveaway

May 27, 2010 by Momstart 530 Comments

I am awful with organization. TERRIBLE! I just can’t get myself together and the only thing I have that is holding the pieces together is Outlook. But what do I do when I can’t access my computer or phone, and yes it does happen.

Sometimes, my husband would just like to know what is for dinner, sometimes, he and I, I should say we, we would like to know what our plans are for the week, what is our schedule for the month? I keep it all in outlook, and send it to him, but it would be easier if it was in a more centralized place, like the Fridge! Mead sent me some of their Organizeher products for review. I love the color! Thanks for adding color to my kitchen decor!

I know everyone likes to see my personal photos of using the products that I’m reviewing but for this one, and my trip being at the same time, I just didn’t have time to properly process the photos for the review. So I apologize, but rest assured, they are on my fridge. Ok, so saying that actually made me feel guilty and I jumped up and used my not meant for great photos video camera to take some photos.

Anyways!

Mead has an new line of organizational products for moms like me, and dads like my husband called OrganizHer, sold exclusively at Target.

Family To-Do Magnetic Notepad

If it can go on the fridge it saves my life. The kitchen is the center of life, you eat three meals a day so you’re always around the fridge. So I love this because I can keep different lists and see them all day long as a reminder.  image

Write ‘N Wipe Meal Center

I’m a big time meal planner, and I’m always pulling up my blog to find what I was planning on making, so now, I can keep it on the fridge, and make a grocery list as the same time!

IMG_0199Expense Tracker

image Saving money is made a whole lot easier when you keep track of how much you are spending. I once created my own way of keeping track of it, but this keeps me organized and saves me time. I don’t have to find a notebook and draw all the lines, it’s all done for me.

Magnetic Calendar Center:

IMG_0201

My husband and I can now centrally find all our monthly information and put our computers down for a while!

Month to Month Family Wall Calendar:

I asked for one of these because we always have one. We for some reason don’t have one this year, but now we do, so Thank you Mead for all of these products.

Free Hasbro Games at Target this Week: Here’s How

March 21, 2010 by Momstart 7 Comments

Are you signed up at Target to receive coupons? When Andrew and I got married we registered at Target and we also used to have a Target Red Card, also known as Target Visa. We don’t have that anymore because store cards aren’t that great for  your credit score. So they have our address.

I even registered for our babies at Target even though we never had a shower for miles. This just ensured that we received coupons. I’m not sure how to sign up for it other than these two ways. If someone else knows then share will all of us.

The Spring Coupon Mailers at Target were wonderful coupons booklets and somehow Target has both of our addresses so we received two of each. One was a toy magazine with toy coupons and on the back was a 5.00 GC coupon when you spend 50.00.

Of course by combining all of these target coupons with manufacturer coupons you can purchase a lot of stuff for really cheap to next to free. Last Sunday there was a 7.00 off Zyrtec and there are Zyrtec coupons in the mailers. So by using both you can save up to 10.00 on Zyrtec.

Hasbro

In the Sunday Paper there is an insert from Hasbro. Save up to 130.00 with the coupons from Hasbro. Save on toys and games.

How to get a free game:
