Making A Table Setting For St. Patrick’s Day #DIY

March 16, 2014 by Momstart 1 Comment

Miles helped me create a table for recipes and it was all green. We created this table in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. We found some Shamrock stir sticks, glass bottles and filled them with green and white glass pebbles. I found a table cloth at Kohls for a very good price. This table cloth was covered in green and white Shamrocks. I loved it.

We found this flower and filled it with white clear rocks. You can find other table accessories to decorate your table at these party supply stores on-line. And I imagine that there will be a few sales since St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow.

We did receive a pair of fun Shamrock glasses from BuyCostumes.com for our St. Patrick’s Day party. They also sent us two other St. Patrick’s Day party kits. One included a Green Lantern ring and green lantern gloves and a dark green water bottle while the other and a light green water bottle.

The kids ran off with the water bottles and are taking them to school. I’m pretty sure they’ll take them tomorrow as part of their green.

Do kids still get pinched for not wearing green?

To finish off my table I had these Christmas ornaments from Christmas Sale at Macy’s. I love them they look like little wine bottles. The clear bottles are from Hobby Lobby, my husband found them in another after Christmas sale. We’re decorating our table for all occasions.

A DIY Mardi Gras Skull Center Piece

February 28, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Miles got to pick the table setting a few weeks ago because his birthday is next. Poor guy only has two months when he has the next birthday. We have some interesting pieces that we found around the house and on sale at Target, Kohl’s and Cost Plus World Market. Zoe and I had a really great mommy daughter day doing the shopping for this table, and Miles had a great time putting it together on the table.

The first thing we found at our house was the glass skull. The Glass skull was a Vodka glass. Andrew got it as a Christmas present. He said that vodka was AWFUL so stay away from Vodka’s in skull heads, but it is fun to have this skull that we can use as a center piece for certain holidays like Mardi Gras and Halloween.

What do you need to make the skull green or purple or black for Mardi Gras?

You need beads of course. After Christmas my husband found beads 1/2 price and using beads in glass jars adds a lot of color and pizazz to your center piece. Also seen in this photo is a green table cloth I bought at Macy’s. Then you’ll see a whole bunch of beads, we purchased those at Target 1.00 a strand after Christmas. And the shells, coasters and fish are from Cost Plus World Market on sale after Valentine’s Day.

I tried to make Miles do all the beads himself; but he was frustrated and his sister was more than happy to help. I still gave him credit for doing as much as he did and look how proud he is of his DIY project!

This is our first year to do anything Mardi Gras themed. I’m working on a fun hat too, but it’s coming along really slowly. Do you do anything for Mardi Gras?

Dress Up Boxes For Spring Table Settings with Scotch Duct Tape Craft

February 7, 2014 by Momstart 1 Comment

If you’ve been following along for more than a month you will know that Zoe and I are doing a different table for every month. We have all the supplies to do the February Valentine’s Day table but we haven’t done it yet. I’ll do it when I get back from this trip I’m on, between the Super Bowl, and these two trips I haven’t been home. So this box idea came up from Scotch Color & Pattern Duct Tape and it’s going to be perfect for our March table. Yep I’m jumping the gun for now.

Anyway here are the directions on how to make your craft box.

Supplies needed:

Duct Tape
Duct Tape sheets (easier to cut out the polka dots)
Scissors
Brads

To Decorate the box

Take a box you like, or a basket of some kind and then cover that with Duct tape, the example above is pink.

Then you can cut out circles in different colors of the polka dots (nice spring colors)

Use pink or red tape to add stripes if you wish

TO make the flowers:

tape example

Lay one piece of duct tape flat on the board. Now layer a second one so that it overlaps with the first one between a quarter and an eighth of an inch. Continue until you’ve reached a size that works for you. We did about four rows of duct tape.

Then when you have a solid sheet you will need to make another one out of another color or different pattern. So you would cut out the flours in two different color patterns to give the flowers some depth.

Then use the brad to connect the two and you can also brad them to the box when you are all done.

Easiest DIY Fall Centerpiece Craft EVER!

Easiest DIY Fall Centerpiece (table decoration) EVER!

By: Ashley

Decorating with pumpkins and gourds is the easiest and most inexpensive way to transform your home into a fall harvest festival. You might think you need to be super crafty or at least have a large decorating budget to get the job done, but nothing could be further from the truth. A trip to Wal-Mart for the gourds and the Dollar Tree for the basket and leaves, and you are set. This particular centerpiece has been my go to for a couple years now, so I figured I could share it with you guys!

You will need:

SUPPLIES

– Assorted decorative gourds

– Artificial colored leaves

– Basket or bowl

Create a bed with the artificial leaves. Add the gourds and arrange them until your satisfied. Ta-dah! The easiest thing EVER, right? It may seem silly to bother writing out these directions, but I’ve actually had a couple of people ask about my centerpiece. I think adding the leaves really makes it look like more than some pumpkins in a basket. What do you think?
