Sprint HTC 8XT Windows Phone & Accessibility From Sprint

October 23, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

I received the Sprint HTC 8XT from Sprint to review and will return it at the end of the program. Of course you know I love this phone because I love all things Windows. And yes I have to say that because my husband works at Microsoft and there are cameras watching me……Just Kidding! I do love Windows software though because it keeps my friends on my start screen and I don’t miss a beat. Whenever I switch to a droid I’m always missing something. image

The HTC 8XT is visually stunning and sonically brilliant. With dual front-facing stereo speakers, built-in amp, Beats Audio™ and HTC BoomSound™, you’ll experience studio quality sound the way the artist intended. The 8XT integrates the Microsoft® suite of services and corporate security features you rely on every day. In or out of the office, your family will remain connected and productive.

This device is capable of receiving optional alerts from local, state and national emergency management officials. Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), also known as Commercial Mobile Alert System or CMAS, is a national alert system that enables rapid dissemination of warnings and safety information via text alerts to wireless phones based on their geographic location. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is responsible for receiving the safety information and forwarding the alerts to participating wireless carriers such as Sprint. Alerts can come from the President of the United States, the National Weather Service (NWS) or state and local emergency operations centers. This system is integrated with the national alert system that serves television and radio stations today.

Sprint offers wireless devices with features like picture caller identification, voice recognition, hands-free operation and automatic answer.

The Speech-to-Speech service offered with Sprint Relay is often preferred for customers who have suffered a stroke, head injury, seizures or other types of cognitive impairments.

The Google Play and Apple storefronts contain a growing list of applications that may  assist customers with cognitive and mobility impairments.

Active Senior ID pack installs 20 applications and services including AARP, WebMD and safety apps such as Fall Detector and ICE (In Case of Emergency).

Kyocera Kona offers adjustable font sizes, text-to-speech functionality, a dedicated shortcut to a 911 key and ICE button.

Sprint offers Assurance Wireless, a no-contract  plan offering a wireless phone, 250 minutes of  free wireless voice minutes and 250 free text  messages each month to eligible residents in  more than 40 states where available. Allowing a user to operate a smartphone without the need to see or read what is displayed on the screen.
Providing navigational assistance to users through GPS-based applications.
Identifying and locating items around the home and the workplace.
Helping K-12 students with print disabilities access Web-based educational resources on their smartphone.

The Sprint HTC One

June 18, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Sprint loaned me an HTC One that I have to return to them.

I’ve written about AT&T’s HTC One before and it’s one of my favorite phones. HTC makes great phones and since the phones are so similar across networks I like this one too. The thing I like and noticed that’s different from the AT&T HTC One and this one is that this one is much slimmer and excellent screen and I like the gray/silver color that it has. The HTC One’s full metal body features a slim, solid construction with tapered edges for a satisfying grip, and it’s complemented by a brilliant 4.7-inch Full HD 1080p display that resists scratches and reduces glare. It’s powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core processor, and it’s packed with 32 GB of storage and 2 GB of RAM for excellent multitasking.

http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/wireless/detail/htc-13q2-one-rear-slvr-sm._V371018491_.jpgCrafted with a distinct zero-gap aluminum unibody, the HTC One is ready to reshape your smartphone experience with a live home screen that streams all of your favorite content, a photo gallery that comes to life, and dual frontal stereo speakers. This 4G LTE-enabled smartphone runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), which combines with HTC Sense to create an amazing mobile experience that’s been re-imagined from the ground up.http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/wireless/detail/htc one slvr

With the HTC Technology it has an amazing camera on it. You can quickly shoot vivid, true-to-life images with a wide range of colors, even in low light conditions — it lets in 300 percent more light, enabling you to take photos indoors without a flash. And this is accomplished not by increasing the number of megapixels in the camera, but by engineering a more advanced CMOS Sensor, ISP, and optical lens system that captures significantly more light than most 8 or 13 megapixel cameras.

With HTC Zoe mode, press the shutter and the HTC One automatically captures up to 20 photos and a 3-second video — including the last second of images before you tapped the picture button. It can also create a 30-second Zoe Highlight film from each event comprised of Zoes, photos, and videos with professionally designed cuts, transitions, and effects — just ad your choice of pre-loaded soundtrack. These highlight videos can be remixed or set to different themes, and can be easily shared on social networks, email, and other services.

Multi-axis optical image stabilization for the rear camera also helps ensure video footage smoother whether stationary or on the move. Other features and effects include enhanced 360-degree panorama, time sequencing, and object removal. Self portraits and video are also easily captured via the front-facing camera, which supports 1080p video capture.

That’s mostly what I use a phone for nowadays. I take photos of my family and all the activities that I’ve been doing and share them across all my social media. So I really love a phone that makes it easy to do all that.

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 Now In Purple Giveaway

June 5, 2013 by Momstart 99 Comments

Sprint has a new color in the Samsung Galaxy S3, it’s Amethyst Purple and they gave us one to giveaway. Here are a few snippets from my review a few months ago. Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S3 is FANTASTIC. It’s lightweight, shares with a back bump and has a great camera. The camera is so much better than my last phone. The 1.9MP front-facing camera is a great addition. The fact that one could take 720p HD videos from the front camera is very impressive. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a great multimedia player and it played some full 1080p videos. I like the size of the phone and the way it feels in my hand. My husband first said he thought it was really big but I think he’s getting used to this size of phone since his new phone is about the same size and weight. The screen is in HD and it looks fabulous. It’s also enormous. It was very easy for me to adjust to the android software and I was able to easily add all of my social networking apps.

Recognizes Hand and Eye Gestures

Since you can enable each motion gesture individually, you can customize the Galaxy S III to use only the gestures you want. To enable hand gestures and learn how to use them, go to Settings > Motion. Check the Motion activation box to show the available motion gestures. Touch the name of any gesture to view a tutorial. Smart Stay: The phone tracks your eyes, so as long as you’re looking at it, the display won’t dim or turn off. If the “Turn Over to Mute” gesture is enabled, you can turn the phone over to mute the ringer of an incoming call, alarm, or alert tone. Direct Call: If you’ve got a contact on your screen, there’s no need to hit call: simply hold the device up to your face and the number will be dialed automatically. To take a screen shot, place the edge of your palm against one side of the screen and swipe your hand across the screen to the other side. While a video or song is playing, cover the screen with your palm to pause the media. And of course you also have voice. S-Voice: That’s S for Samsung, not Siri. This feature allows you to control your phone through voice, eg to turn up the volume, and to ask it questions. WP_20130605_003

Syncing Across Devices
All Share Play and Cast: Share your S3′s screen to a TV, or use the screen as a remote control. Pop Up Play: Play video in a window on any homescreen. Music Hub automatically syncs with your music library (iTunes or Windows® Media Player), then scans your songs and matches them with the titles in the Music Hub catalog so they play at optimized audio quality and reduces the upload time. Unmatched songs are directly uploaded so that you can access all of your recordings, even personal ones. Any time you edit your playlists or buy new music, your collection is automatically updated across all of your devices.

Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint Join the It Can Wait Campaign #itcanwait @ATT

May 29, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post as part of the It Can Wait Campaign.

I love when companies can work together to achieve such a noble cause and I’m proud to be a part of it. I’m going to be writing about the It Can Wait 100 Deadliest Days of Teen Driving a lot because I really want to raise awareness about NOT using your phone while you are driving. It’s not safe!!!

"The It Can Wait campaign is a meaningful way for Verizon to continue its work on this important issue,” said Verizon Wireless president and chief executive officer Dan Mead. “Texting and driving is a serious social challenge and we look forward to partnering with leading organizations and experts around the world to answer it."

“As a longstanding advocate of keeping wireless consumers focused on driving, Sprint is proud to participate in the ‘It Can Wait’ campaign,” said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. “Sprint will continue to promote education of responsible driving behavior through our sponsorship events, social media channels and thousands of retail stores nationwide.”

“Mobile technology connects us in many cool ways, but adults and teens need to put it on hold while behind the wheel,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US, Inc.  “Knowing the risks is not enough. By simply putting the phone down, thousands of tragedies can be prevented every year. It’s time to end texting while driving – for good.”

Texting while driving is an epidemic, and it’s not isolated to teen drivers. It affects adults as well. A recent AT&T survey shows business commuters know texting while driving is unsafe, but they still engage in these behaviors.

In fact:

They are texting and driving more than they used to.

        • Six in 10 commuters said they never texted while driving three years ago.

Nearly half of commuters admit to texting while driving, which is more than teens.

                • 49 percent of commuters self-report texting while driving, compared to 43 percent of teens.

                    Despite knowing the risks.

                        • 98 percent said sending a text or email while driving isn’t safe.

For many, it has become a habit.

                                • More than 40 percent of those who admitted to texting while driving called it a habit

Visit Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and ItCanWait.com. to stay on top of the 100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers and remind them to leave their phone alone while driving, and you might need to remind yourself too, I know I do!

The Mini Samsung Galaxy S3: The Sprint Samsung Galaxy Victory™ 4G LTE Giveaway

                                January 22, 2013 by Momstart 88 Comments

I prefer big screens as opposed to smaller screens but this phone still has a fantastic screen. We’re talking the The Sprint Samsung Galaxy Victory™ 4G LTE today with outstanding features just like the Samsung Galaxy, it’s even been called the Mini Samsung Galaxy S3. The Lock screen lets you do more without unlocking. From the slide lock screen, you can jump directly to the camera for a picture or pull down the notifications window to check for messages. When listening to music, you can even manage music tracks and see album art.

                                Home Screen Folders

Quickly access related apps right from the home screen by organizing apps and shortcuts into folders–just drag one app onto another to create a folder.

                                Multitasking

Multitasking is even easier and more visual in Android 4.0. The Recent Apps button lets you jump instantly from one task to another using the list in the System Bar. The list pops up to show thumbnail images of apps used recently–tapping a thumbnail switches to the app.

                                Voice Inputimage

The new voice engine in Android 4.0 lets you dictate the text you want, for as long as you want, using the language you want. You can speak continuously for a prolonged time, even pausing for intervals if needed, and dictate punctuation to create correct sentences. As the voice input engine enters text, it underlines possible dictation errors in gray. After dictating, you can tap the underlined words to quickly replace them from a list of suggestions.

With the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE you can do more for less. This LTE premium Android powered device lets switch between apps effortlessly and experience richer web-browsing with true multitasking thanks to the dual core 1.2GHz processor. Stay connected in new ways: video conferencing, video chatting, downloading movies or just surfing the web, at unprecedented speeds.

The Victory allows you to enjoy the latest Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Use NFC technology to share with your friends, your other devices and yourself using Android Beam and S Beam or Google Wallet, so you can pay at thousands of retailers with just your phone. All you would expect from a premium smartphone without the premium price. A full charge takes usually about 1hr to 1hr 30 min, and it last me about 1 1/2 day to 2 full days.

                                • Enjoy movies, games, books and apps on a brilliant 4-inch display

And you don’t even need Wi-Fi® or a cellular signal. My husband and I tried this with his Windows phone on Verizon and they weren’t compatible. They did however recognize that each phone was trying to share something and I was impressed with that. Share Shot lets you share your photos with up to five friends – as you take them. What does this mean? You don’t have to remember to share later; just share on the spot and forget it. Sharing has never been so much fun, so fast or so hassle-free.

I remember being a teenager and how much I was on the computer and my cell phone. I don’t remember texting that often but I see how much it used now and how I want to know what people are saying. I’m sure when my kids are older I’m going to wonder as well. Sprint sent me a statistic that says that 83% of teens text at night when they should be sleeping or resting. You can set restrictions on their texting, making sure they can’t text during bedtime or school hours.

According to Pew Internet Research, 75 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds now own cell phones, up from 45 percent in 2004. To help parents ensure their teens are using smartphones responsibly, Sprint Guardian, a collection of mobile family safety and device security bundles that provide families tools to help keep their family smartphones safe and secure. Sprint Guardian is available on many Sprint Android™-powered devices through Sprint Zone.

Sprint Guardian features leading mobile applications from Safely, a division of Location Labs, and Lookout. The family safety bundle from Safely enables families to protect their phone-carrying children through location checks and limits on texting while driving or at school. The device security bundle from Lookout helps customers protect their mobile devices from loss and malware. You can set parameters for when and where your children can text and a Sprint phone can be programmed to stop calls and text messages while driving. Plus you can find your child using the location of the phone, Sprint Family Locator, that or you’ll find a lost.

Inside Sprint Guardian: Safely and Lookout

The family safety tools from Safely bring together three applications to help parents keep their kids safe and focused on what matters whether they are at home, at school or on-the-go. Sprint Mobile Controls, Sprint Drive First and Sprint Family Locator are available as a Family Safety bundle for $9.99 per month for up to five lines on the same account. It reminds me of Harry Potter and how Mrs. Weasely had the clock that told her where each of her family members were. I always want to know where my family is. Are they on the road, are they at their friend’s house or is my husband still at work?

Lookout Family enables Sprint customers to manage their phone security by protecting against identity theft and fraud, find a family member’s missing device when it is lost or stolen, and back up their precious data. Lookout Family bundle is $4.99 per month, or $49.99 per year, for up to five lines on the same account.

In addition to simplicity and convenience for families, Sprint Guardian offers significant cost savings.

I really like how easy it is to set up and use. I tested the service out on the Galaxy Victory. When your child goes above 10 MPH in the car with Sprint Drive First they can not text. They can override it but you will get a notification, so you know if they were driving you can take their phone away. As soon as they are done moving in the car the texting unlocks again. It’s a pretty cool service from Sprint.

We received sample phones to test out some of Sprint’s services.
