Protect Your Family’s Hair Naturally with Fairy Tales Sun & Swim Collection

Protect Your Family’s Hair Naturally with Fairy Tales Sun & Swim Collection

By Emily

I’ve got two little girls who must have been fish in a former life. If I don’t get them involved in some aquatic activity at least once a week, they’d go crazy stuck on dry land. Thank goodness swimming is a great activity we can enjoy as a family year round. In the summer we like splashing in the lakes, wading around the Puget Sound and taking trips to the coast. Summer just isn’t summer without a day at the beach! When the cooler seasons roll around you can find us playing at the community pools and aquatic centers. I love that we as a family can have fun together while getting in some much needed exercise. The only downside to raising little water babies is preventing and dealing with the damage that sand, salt and chlorine can do to our hair.

I have to be careful about what products I choose to use on my daughters since they have such fine hair and sensitive skin. Typically, I like to stick with natural shampoos and conditioners to combat the residue and chemicals left in my children’s hair. Something about cleaning hair with chemicals seems counterproductive. So when I had the opportunity to check out the Fairy Tales Sun & Swim collection, I was eager to give it a try and compare it to the other natural hair products I’ve used in the past.

The Fairy Tales Sun & Swim collection is a line of natural products that the entire family can use to protect hair from sun FTProductsexposure, chlorine and sea salt that can build-up and cause damage. The collection includes:

The Fairy Tales Lifeguard Clarifying Shampoo – gently removes chlorine, sea salt and unwanted minerals from the hair. Infused with orange flower extract, grapefruit and lemon, the Lifeguard Shampoo cleans, softens and hydrates hair.  It was chosen as one of the best shampoos moms steal from their kids by Allure.com.

The Fairy Tales Lemon-Aid Conditioner – removes all traces of chlorine, sea salt and minerals, while deep conditioning with aloe, jojoba and vitamins E & B.

The Fairy Tales Coco Cabana Sun Spray – loaded with banana and coconut extracts that protects sun-drenched hair and locks in moisture.

This summer, our schedule included days at the beach, swim lessons and pool play dates so I had plenty of opportunities to put the Fairy Tales Sun & Swim collection to the test. For my daughters, the first rule of any shampoo must be “no stinging”. Second rule, they want it to smell good. For me, I want it to clean and not cause any further damage. I’m happy to say the Lifeguard Clarifying Shampoo met all our needs. The shampoo smelled amazing, refreshing and clean. I have found in the past that many natural products smell as natural as, well, dirt. Seriously, the Fairy Tales Lifeguard Shampoo smells amazing, did I mention that already? And it cleans. Since I didn’t have to wrestle my youngest daughter while she tried to shield her eyes, I could actually scrub her hair clean.

The Lemon-Aid Conditioner is also a fantastic smelling sting-free product. My concern with many natural conditioners is that many don’t really condition well. No amount of product can seem to fully soften my hair, especially after a day in the pool. With the Lemon-Aid Conditioner, it only took two quarter size drops to do the job, which is beneficial not just from a money-saving standpoint, but also because I don’t want it to run out anytime soon – it softens great and smells wonderful.

I found that my new “must-have-can’t-do-without-product” is the Fairy Tales Coco Cabana Spray. It is perfect for protecting hair and keeping it moisturized. I actually use it daily as a leave-in conditioner. My kids love it as a detangler. We all love the smell, like paradise in a bottle. It reminds my kids of Hawaii, I compare the smell to the pina coladas I enjoyed in Hawaii. This scent of the Coco Cabana Spray could be pretty therapeutic in the middle of a dreary winter!

When I received the Fairy Tales Sum & Swim collection I was excited to try them out and use on my kids; something that I could put to the test on the harsh conditions of sand, sun and chlorine. But actually we’ve been using the products daily now and I’ve got to get another set for my own bathroom. Needless to say the Fairy Tales Sun & Swim collection has also become a staple in our swim bag.

Dr. Sears Baby Care Line: Simple, Safe, Effective

April 15, 2012 by Momstart 20 Comments

Simple, Safe, Effective… and Available at Target!

By: Ashley

When Atticus was born, I flooded myself with the information of chemicals, foods, products, baby gear… you name it! For those moms who are in same position I was, Dr. Sears products might be a great option for you. If you want to provide 100% natural products for your children, Dr. Sears has a complete line of all natural items that have been developed with the Sears Family of Pediatricians. The best part? The product line is easy to get your hands on at any Target store… and for a price that won’t break your budget. What all does Dr. Sears have to offer? IMG_6999

· Baby Lotion – Harnesses the power of pure, 100 percent all-natural ingredients to help soothe, moisturize and nourish your baby’s delicate skin.

· Baby Wash + Shampoo – Safe and simple everyday solution that gently cleanses and nourishes your baby’s skin and hair all while being tear free.

· Healthy Baby Bottom Cream – Helps prevent the discomfort and irritation of diaper rash without any of the chemicals associated with many brands.

· Severe Diaper Rash Cream – An advanced pediatrician-developed formula that alleviates the pain of sever diaper rash while providing immediate, refreshing and cool relief.

· Stretch Mark Cream – A luxurious cream that reduces the appearance of stretch marks or scarring associated with pregnancy. IMG_6995

I was able to test some of the Dr. Sears baby care products out with Atticus. Luckily, we didn’t really need the Severe Diaper Rash Cream, but we tried out most everything else. My absolute favorite product, and one that I think we will be adding to our normal arsenal, is the Baby Wash + Shampoo. The Dr. Sears Baby Wash + Shampoo was super easy to use with the pump top, had an awesome refreshing fragrance, was completely tear free, and did a great job cleaning my little guy from head to toe.

What baby care products you use can be a tough decision for some… for others, they don’t even think twice. If you’re working to eliminate some (or all) of the chemicals that your child is exposed to, using Dr. Sears products would be a great start. Personally, I don’t think I will replace ALL of our products and go completely chemical free. What I can say though, is that making small changes can help make a big difference… incorporating some of the affordable, effective, and accessible Dr. Sears Baby Care products is something I might try.
