Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece Wii Family Party Video Game

July 26, 2012 by Momstart 97 Comments

Two weeks ago on the Wii and DS, Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece made it’s magical appearance in stores. Kids love Sesame Street or at least my kids did and I know I did and I know my sister did. So having a video game with their favorite characters teaching them things kind of excites me must a little. I mean they’re going to be playing a game anyways so why not be educational.

EMM_DS_Front_BoxShot Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece  was designed around Sesame Workshop’s early childhood development curriculum, Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece encourages music creation, physical aspects of movement and dance, emotional expression through music and dance, exploration of instruments, and introduces academic aspects of music such as mathematics in music (patterns, counting), musical elements, and notation.

We also had a little extra fun because we didn’t have a Wii and they sent us a Wii so that we could have a little Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece party. We had lots of fun sharing our new toys with our friends and neighbors. We had some pin the nose on Elmo fun and we had some game fun.

An action-filled console and handheld video game, Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece lets preschoolers play instruments, explore music and dance with Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Count von Count and the honkers as they travel through a music-themed land of wonder.  Through their fun adventures, the game is designed to teach young players how music and dance occur in everyday life. The game also includes music performed by GRAMMY® award-winning band Ozomatli and includes original songs by the popular Los Angeles-based band.

IMG_4342clip_image002Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece for Wii or Nintendo DS is rated ‘EC’ for Early Childhood and can be purchased at retail stores nationwide or via the Sesame Street Online Store for $19.99 each beginning today. “Sesame Street: Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece gets children up and dancing and encourages music creation,” said Rosemarie Truglio, Ph.D., Vice President of Education & Research, Sesame Workshop. “The game also explores emotional expression through music and dance, introduces instrument names and sounds, and helps children to practice early math skills through music.”

This is a great game for preschoolers and it’s fun for them. They love seeing the Sesame Street characters and exploring dance with Abby Cadabby (Zoe loves her and Miles loves Elmo).

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to the winner, Kim C.

Thank you for the fun experience we were able to have with such a great family game.

December 14, 2010 by Momstart 17 Comments

I LOVE using my influence on-line to make a difference in my community. Last week we had a tweet up in Seattle and I helped gather swag, donations and door prizes. The event was the Seattle Tweet Drive. I posted in detail about the Seattle Tweetdrive a few weeks ago when I started looking for sponsors and I’m so happy with all the companies that supported us. See the full list below! We had a great turnout and Look at what we did for the charity Treehouse! I’m exhausted and extremely behind on my blog posts, but I feel great because it was all for a really great cause. Club Sur donated the space, My Seattle Night Out organized the event, and local bands and entertainers donated their time and efforts for all of us to have a great time! We gathered around 333 toys total! Tweet Drive is going on nationally in many different locations, check Tweet Drive 2010 to find a location next to you.

Sesame Street 20 Years and Still Counting Review

August 28, 2010 by Momstart 2 Comments

Sesame_3DThanks to Lionsgate we received Sesame Street 20 Years and Still Counting. Hosted by Bill Cosby it surely is dated! America’s most groundbreaking educational TV Series comes to DVD and Digital Download for the first time ever to Celebrate the iconic show’s 20th Anniversary!  There was also special appearances by Ray Charles, Jim Henson, Placido Domingo, the Muppets and more.

I liked watching it because it had scenes from when I watched it, even though, Sesame Street is so old, it was almost 20 years old when I started watching it, well ok, maybe just over 10 years old, I’m not that old yet, but it was a classic then it it is a classic today.

Sesame Street 20 Years and Still Counting is perfect for my kids to watch. The DVD is geared towards the pre-school audience and watching Bill Cosby brings back all kinds of memories. Man, I miss decent TV that we can all sit down as a family and watch together. There was one scene in there that Bill Cosby looks back on and people say, is that really you, and he replies, no that’s my son. No, Bill Cosby really was that young once upon a time. But weren’t we all? We love Sesame Street and recommend 20 Years and Still Counting for those that love it now and then!

Favorite Children’s TV Shows Giveaway

May 19, 2010 by Momstart 201 Comments

I love to watch TV and yes I am so guilty of letting my kids watch too much TV, but most of it is really good for them. They learn so much from some of the programming. Zoe knows her alphabet and we’re working on lower case letters now. Some of that reinforcement comes from TV. Check out a few of our favorites here:

Firefly Fun & Buggy BuddiesSesame Street – Firefly Fun and Buggy Buddies

Warner Brothers is a publisher for Sesame Street DVD’s and they sent me a copy of Firefly Fun and Buggy Buddies to review. We watch this episode all the time, it is one of the episodes we recorded before we turned our cable off. So we have Elmo’s World Bugs, Slimey’s Pet Bug Dirty, and Fly, Little Firefly! We like to sing this song and pretend that we are little Fireflies right along with Telly Monster and Baby Bear.

This DVD is all about bugs. Telly and Baby bear try to figure out how to catch a firefly. But once they do, they see that the firefly was sad. So they had to pretend to be fireflies to understand that the firefly was unhappy with the small amount of space he was stuck in.

You know how Oscar has a pet worm? The worm Slimey wanted to get a pet, so Oscar takes him pet shopping. They then pick out a bug and have to learn how to take care of a pet together.

Wow Wow Wubbzy – Escape from Dino Island

Wow Wow Wubbzy: Escape From Dino IslandNick Junior sent us Wow Wow Wubbzy newest adventure on DVD; Escape from Dino Island. Wubbzy is a cute and quirky bendy-tailed character  that takes viewers on many adventures in the brand-new DVD, “Escape From Dino Island.”  Whether it’s exploring the jungle, swinging from vines or “discovering” friendly new creatures, you will find here.

“We are very excited to bring ‘Escape From Dino Island,’ to DVD as the newest title in our collection of award-winning Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! releases,” said Julie Cartwright, SVP of Brand Marketing for Anchor Bay Entertainment.  “Preschoolers and families nationwide will dig the dinosaur-themed entertainment that is sure to bring laughs to the youngest set, while imparting important life lessons about honesty, teamwork and more!”

In Escape form Dino Island has six episodes and a bonus episode making seven total episodes for your preschooler to watch, and if they are anything like the two of mine then they will love Wubbzy in Escape from Dino Island. Start off with the adventure Escape From Dino Island, Then you’ll find Wubbzy The Hero, Call of the Mild, Wubbzy and the Sparkle Stone, Daizy’s Purple Thumb and Mt. Fizzy Pop. Then the final episode is Too Much of a Doodle Thing.

Also a star on the Internet, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! remains the top game for the past two years on Nick Jr. ®’s award-winning website (www.nickjr.com) and boasts the first-ever video podcasts for preschoolers at www.wubbzy.com.

Cover Image - Sid the Science Kid: Weather Kid SidSid The Science Kid – Weather Kid Sid

NCircle Entertainment and PBS sent me a copy of Sid the Science Kid Weather Kid Sid to review with my family.Sid the Science Kid is about Sid and his friends and the discoveries they make at school. They have science lessons every day, as they sing, play and interact with one another just like children do every day. The feel of the show is so natural, every day Sid gets up, struggles to get his breakfast eaten, goes off to school and plays with his friends. He occasionally has a play date after school with his best friend Gabriela. Gabriela is my daughter’s favorite character because of the pigtails, but she is also partial to May and her purple hair.

Weather Kid Sid has four episodes with the first episode introducing the rain. They learned all about how the rain helps things to grow, and that it doesn’t just rain to ruin play dates.  Another episode was about spending the day with his dad out in the sun. Sid was protesting the sun block, the same way mine did, but he learned all about why it was necessary to put on sun block.

Elmo’s building set, Ice Cream Truck by K’NEX Review

November 25, 2009 by Momstart 4 Comments

Team Mom sent us an Elmo KNEX building set to review and play with. The set we received was the Ice Cream Truck Elmo Set. For ages 2-5, K’NEX has created the Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection Building Sets. These sets let children build and then play with their favorite Sesame Street friends, including Elmo, Cookie Monster and Ernie. Who’s kid doesn’t love Elmo. Mine do. They would prefer Dora but Elmo is an awesome second in her book. The set we received comes with 18 pieces and a Play and Learn activity sheet. There are four Sesame Street K’NEX sets in all. Use them to build your own Sesame street.

We love the colors and my kids love building. My son is an expert with building blocks now so I would even say that you can introduce these at 18 months. The sooner you introduce something to your children the sooner they can learn. So, just make sure there aren’t choke able pieces in the toys you present to your kids. Both of my kids can drink from cups and are recognizing letters. So just let them play and have fun. K’NEX encourage physical development, social-emotional development, language development, and cognitive development.

Build and Play:

Enter to Win 1000.00 in K’NEX products:

K’NEX is also holding a Make a K’NE Xion contest. Now you and your readers have the chance to win over $1,000 worth of K’NEX Toys and be featured on the KNEX.com web site. How? Make a video and include select K’NEX products. The possibilities are endless. Construct your own story or showcase your child’s K’NEX building skills – use your imagination!
