December 28, 2013 by Momstart 62 Comments

I went shopping at Safeway and picked up two really great ingredients. I picked up Cream Cheese and Oreos and I combined the two to make a magical combination of perfection and addiction. This recipe is sure to please anyone coming over to your house. As always, Safeway provides online support and inspiration for every holiday need on its website, mobile app, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest pages. And I went to their website to find a really great recipe perfect for Thanksgiving On the Safeway holiday website you can find lots of recipes, tips, wine pairing suggestions and more: http://holiday.safeway.com/.

(I am a Good Cook ambassador and this post includes links to good cook products. I receive free products from them and from Safeway)

Oreo Delights Recipe

Here is our Oreo Delights Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 whole package of Oreo Cookies
1 8 ounce package of cream cheese (softened)

ganache (optional)

Directions:

Use a food processor to combine the cookies and cream cheese

Then use a cookie scoop ( available from good cook) and scoop out balls on a parchment sheet on a cookie sheet then place in the freezer for 15 minutes.

Then you can dip each ball in warm ganache and cool until hard (optional)

I happen to like them right out of the freezer.

Pork Tacos on White Corn Tortillas Recipe #SafewayMarcela @Safeway Giveaway

October 21, 2013 by Momstart 44 Comments

Safeway has teamed up Marcela Valladolid, celebrity chef, top-selling cookbook author, and host of Food Network’s Mexican Made Easy, to launch the new Marcela Valladolid brand, exclusively available at Safeway and they sent me some samples to create a Mexican meal for my family. This new line of real Mexican food offers affordable and simple meal solutions for busy families looking to bring home an authentic taste of Mexico and features a wide assortment of ready-to-cook meats, tortillas, chips and more.

This is what I created: I made Pork Tacos on White Corn Tortillas

IMG_9062

Marcela Valladolid products include ready to cook meats. These meats are already seasoned and ready for you to just get creative with. Choose From:

Arrachera Steak
Thinly cut flank steak rubbed with a bright blend of lemon, lime, oregano, rosemary & thyme. 16oz (3-4 servings)

Ancho Chipotle Chicken
Boneless, skinless chicken thighs rubbed with a bold, savory blend of ancho & chipotle chiles. 24oz (4-6 servings)

Adobo Chicken
Boneless, skinless chicken thighs seasoned with citrus, garlic, guajillo chile & a hint of coffee.
24oz (4-6 servings)

Pollo Asado
Boneless, skinless chicken thighs seasoned with a traditional blend of orange, garlic, onion & oregano.
24oz (4-6 servings)

Al Pastor Pork
Tender pork seasoned with a blend of citrus, guajillo chile, ancho chile, onion & spices. 24oz (4-6 servings)

Carne Asada
Thinly cut pieces of skirt steak seasoned with a traditional blend of orange, garlic, onion & oregano.
16oz (3-4 servings)

You can learn more about the delicious line of real Mexican food from Safeway and Marcela at www.facebook.com/Safeway/Marcela.

Here is my Pork Tacos on White Corn Tortillas Recipe

Using the Al Pastor Pork

Ingredients:

1 package frozen corn
1 14 ounce can of black beans (drained and rinsed)
1 package of Al Pastor Pork
1 garlic clove minced
1 Tablespoon Cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 cup rice
2 cups water
1 tablespoon butter
1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
5 White Corn Tortillas

garnish:

Cheese
Sour cream
green chili peppers

Directions:

heat the olive oil and minced garlic oil in a skillet over medium heat

Cut the pork into 1 inch pieces then add the pork to the hot oil and cook for about 8 minutes making sure it’s flipped halfway in between cooking both sides

bring rice and water with the cumin, salt, chili powder and cumin and butter to a boil then cover and simmer on low for 20 minutes

Add the beans and corn to the meat mixture

Now preparing the corn tortillas is up to you. I baked mine in the oven which is how they kept the shape you can see in the photo. However, for this meal I think they would be better fried in olive oil on the stove top and then placing the rice on top and then adding the meat mixture and then adding some cheese and sour cream.

Save At the Pump: Safeway Reward Points Program Giveaway

July 22, 2013 by Momstart 56 Comments

I received a gift card but all opinions are my own.

Are you still using a lot of gas? I’ve recently purchased an electric car so that I don’t use much gas anymore, but while I was in Texas with my family I was reminded of how much gas is all over the country. While I was driving back and fourth 45 minutes to the hospital we went though a quarter of a tank of gas a day, ouch it got pricey over the two weeks. I’m back in Washington now and that’s where the Safeway reward points program is helping me out. Every time I grocery shop I can earn points that save me at the gas pump.

image

How do Reward Points* save money at the pump?

Every 100 points gets you a 10¢ per gallon Reward for a single fill-up at a Safeway gas station. You can use your points in increments of 100:

image

• 100 points = 10¢ per gallon Reward

• 200 points = 20¢ per gallon Reward

• 500 points = 50¢ per gallon Reward

• 1000 points = $1 per gallon Reward

Download the Just for U app and save up to 20% more on top of regular club card prices, see your rewards points and get more discounts too. http://j.mp/justforuapp

Track your points on each receipt or download the JustforU app on your smart

phone and get even more offers and coupons.

It Gets Even Better With Gift Cards

You know you are going to shop at certain stores, dine at certain restaurants right? Well gift cards earn 4 times as many rewards points. So why not drop by Safeway, pick up a gift card for your favorite place, and earn 4 times as many gas points to use at participating stations?

Just use your club card at checkout and you’re set.

Going shopping at Kohls? Get a $50 gift card from Kohls at Safeway and turn it into 200 Gas points. You can save 20 cents per gallon the next time you fill up!

What Gas Stations?

Chevron and Safeway stations participate. Just enter phone number or swipe your Safeway Club Card at the pump to get your rewards.

Find a Safeway near you

And Use GoWallet.com an online and smartphone app where you can keep track of gift cards, their balances, other information and special offers.

Safeway Gas Rewards At Chevron & Texaco Giveaway #FueledbySafeway

June 28, 2013 by Momstart 49 Comments

I received a gift card from Safeway.

Did you know that you can now use your Safeway Gas Reward Points at participating Chevron and Texaco locations! Last month I went on an epic road trip with my family. We got in our car and packed it up with plenty to do and zipped off to Las Angeles to go to Disneyland. Whenever you’re on a road trip you have to fill up your tank quite a few times and along the way I noticed that one of the Chevron’s said that I could use my Safeway Gas reward points. It asked me for my Safeway rewards phone number and I punched it in and at the time I actually didn’t have any points. I thought that was kind of weird but it had been a while since I went to Safeway.

image

I think it had been a while because I was out of town so much and my husband didn’t do any shopping. Anyway, that’s not the point. The point is, when you shop at Safeway you’re already saving money. You save more if you use the Just For U program, and coupons and then as you spend money you earn gas rewards. You earn even more gas rewards when you purchase gift cards and Safeway has quite the selection of gift cards.

image

I never kept track of the gas rewards because the locations that Safeway had that we shopped at didn’t have a Safeway gas station. The closest one I think was in Bellevue and I just don’t ever get down to Bellevue. Now that it works at Chevron and Texaco the gas rewards are much easier to use. Safeway offered me a gift card to try out the program myself and they gave me one to offer to all of you. To keep up with ways to save at Safeway visit the the Safeway Facebook page.

Safeway Has Everything You Need To Bake Christmas Treats #SafewayHoliday #Giveaway

December 5, 2012 by Momstart 292 Comments

I love shopping at Safeway and now is the time to stock up on Holiday Christmas baking needs. I love baking and I love having a pantry full of baking options. Which reminds me I’m feeling a little low since I spent last week baking cookies. I need some more cake mixes and icing flavors for some sugar cookies. It’s cooking party season. I still have a few things left that Safeway sent me last week. Safeway wanted to share a glimpse of what they sell in their stores, since I’m there every other week I already know of this goodness.

IMG_2039

We received a box of Reece’s Puffs cupcakes mix, red velvet cake mix, Funfetti cake pop kit, frosting creations, and a lot of Wilton goodies. So I made lots of cookies. You know how much I love to turn a good box of cake into cookies. Plus, I just love a good chocolate chip cookie.

I’m also in the mood for brownies and more cookies and I think I could just spend all day in the kitchen. Want to know a secret? In our family baking time is family time. My husband is an expert about getting the kitchen and letting the kids help.

Why You Should Sign Up for @Safeway’s Just For U Program

June 7, 2012 by Momstart 19 Comments

I’m still loving the Safeway Just For U Program because I’m saving so much money and it’s made shopping a bigger game for me. I used to be really good at clipping coupons, I was never any good at organizing them, and sometimes I would forget to bring all of my coupons and I would find something not on my list on sale and want to buy it. Safeway’s Just for U program takes all the work away from me. All I have to do is log in right before going to the store, pick my coupons, add them to my Safeway Club Card and create a shopping list that I can send to my smart phone or e-mail. You can even print it out if that’s the way you like to go.

image

My personalized deals are always AMAZING. One week I saved 2.00 per bag of flour I purchased. So I stocked up because we’re always baking.

My personalized deals also include produce coupons, I hear so many people say there are never any coupons for the healthy food, well Safeway knows people have to eat meat, fruit and veggies and they are helping you save in ways coupons hardly ever do. I currently have savings on Strawberries, beef, and a 3.00 off coupon on my produce purchase. Eggs are almost always on my Personalized deal too.

In the Coupon Center right now I see that there is a 2x gas multiplier that I can use one time and I had this coupon last month too. I’m so into this program and saving money with digital coupons, my personalized deals, and seeing the Safeway weekly deals before getting into the store; it’s saving me time and money.

It’s easy to use

It’s easy to sign up

if you need to update your clubcard just go into the store and find someone with an iPad or use their call center. I had to use the call center and it was painless

It’s much quicker than clipping coupons or printing all the digital ones

You can see all of the club specials and not just the ones in the circular

It’s based on the things you already purchase

So sign up today and start saving on the things you WANT to buy.

Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) and The Safeway Foundation

June 2, 2012 by Momstart 18 Comments

Take a minute to think about any of the men in your life – family or friend – who could potentially face a life-altering diagnosis, such as prostate cancer. Many of us don’t know much about prostate cancer as it isn’t a disease we really talk about, yet it currently affects more than two million American men and remains the second-leading cause of cancer death for men in the U.S.

clip_image002

Because of this, Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) and The Safeway Foundation have joined forces with actress Angie Harmon (Rizzoli and Isles) on a new public service announcement to increase awareness and help raise funds for the fight against prostate cancer. In addition to the PSA, SU2C and The Safeway Foundation have created a limited-edition reusable shopping bag with the words, “It starts with a wish; it can end with a cure” engraved on the side. The bag will be available for purchase at all Safeway locations nationwide this June as well as online at safewayfoundation.org. Proceeds will go to the brightest in the cancer research community to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives.

Safeway Just For U $100 Gift Card & Couponizer Prize Pack Giveaway

May 28, 2012 by Momstart 55 Comments

I have yet to write about my fabulous day with Safeway where I spent the day learning about the Just for U program. I love it, it makes shopping at Safeway like a game where I save as much as I can. It’s actually gotten me in their store more than any other grocery store lately. I go online to Safeway.com and log into my Safeway account and I have personal deals based on my past spending habits. And Safeway knows me and what I buy because I have fabulous deals like milk for .99 cents. I’m in love with this shopping experience. Picture 6

What you have to do..

1. Sign up – either update your phone number and address information or sign up for a Safeway club card account and then create your just for U program. My MIL went into the store and updated hers there with one of the Safeway associates walking around with an iPad and she said it was so fast.

2. Log in on-line and find your personal deals and then pick the ones you want to use that day and load them onto your card. You also can load ecoupons onto your Safeway club card. And you can use paper coupons too if you like, Safeway will not stack manufacturer coupons, but they will stack manufacturer coupons with store coupons. Just like always, but Safeway guarantees to give you the best deal out of the coupons you bring.

Coupon Center — In the coupon center you’ll find a selection of coupons that can be “clipped” and added to your Club Card. These coupons are available to everyone and sorted by your shopping history so that you’ll see the items you use at the top of the page. They can also be sorted by category or by “about to expire”.

Personalized Deals — These deals are specific to YOU based on your past shopping history. Personalized deals are month long offers so you’ll have plenty of time to take advantage of them.

Your Club Specials — This section shows you EVERYTHING in the store that is on sale if you’ve purchased it in the past. You can use this tool to help create your shopping list. Just click “add to list” next to the item to add it to your shopping list. Your Club Specials usually follow your stores sales weekly sales ad so if your ad comes out on a Wednesday, they’d be good Wednesday through Tuesday (one week).

—– Mommies With Cents

3. Buy your groceries and watch the savings rack up when you check out.

Safeway Culinary Kitchens Search for Next Chef Competition

May 2, 2012 by Momstart 31 Comments

I love watching Chef’s compete on tv for a top spot. I’ve been watching cooking competitions for over ten years now and it never gets old. Now that Safeway is doing it too, just makes me smile. What a fun way for fans of Safeway to watch the grocery store chain find a new chef. After combing through hundreds of submissions, conducting a nationwide People’s Choice online vote and hosting three high-stakes cook-off events in San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago, Safeway (NYSE: SWY) is bringing the “Search for Our Next Chef” Competition to an exhilarating close. The three finalists will have one last chance to showcase their skills at the final cook-off event on May 16, 2012 at the Safeway Culinary Kitchens in Pleasanton, Calif. where they will present their skillet meal recipe to an experienced judging panel consisting of Safeway executives along with Executive Chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli, who appears on Food Network’s “Chopped” and “Iron Chef.”

Safeway

“This entire competition has been thrilling, but with the final cook-off just weeks away, the excitement is really building,” said Mike Minasi, president of marketing at Safeway. “Not only do our finalists have impressive culinary skills, they all share Safeway’s passion in bringing affordable, delicious and healthier foods to our shoppers.”

Recipe for Success

On May 16, one chef will be welcomed onto the Safeway Culinary Kitchens team and be granted a unique opportunity to have his or her winning dish sold in Safeway stores as an Open Nature™ Skillet Meal. The judging team is looking for a well-rounded chef who demonstrates a passion for food using fresh and healthy ingredients in his or her recipe.

“We set high standards for our products and are equally committed to identifying the best talent to bring quality foods to our shoppers,” remarked Joe Ennen, senior vice president of consumer brands at Safeway. “With the final cook-off event just around the corner, we are looking forward to rewarding one chef not simply for the distinction of winning this three-month long competition, but with the opportunity to join a top-notch team and bring their recipe to millions of Safeway shoppers.”
Visit www.facebook.com/safeway and follow along on Twitter with the hashtag #SafewayChef for more information about the Search for Our Next Chef Competition, and for real-time updates from the final cook-off.
