Reusable Foldable Sip N’ Go Summer Fun

May 30, 2011 by Momstart 1 Comment

My family and I made a recently trip to Disneyland; making a trip like this for our family means a plane flight, some car time, and then 12 hours or so inside the park each day. In planning for all of these travels I was approached by Sip N’ Go to review their water bottle.

clip_image002

I was excited to see I could roll these bottles up and “stick them in my back pocket” before or after use, and they’re light at only 1 ounce. I use the carabineer to hook the bottle to my backpack, full and empty. Empty – I had it on hand to fill like post airport security. Full – I had it on hand for thirst mouths in need, and frozen full meant cool water at Disneyland all day long. I really love this “Sip ‘N Go” concept. For only $7.99 you can own one too.

There is no better way to always have a water bottle one hand. This is a great product to attach to your playground bag and not take up room as there are always water fountains available. Sip ‘N Go is an easy water bottle to store in a glove compartment or other emergency car storage, or to add to an at-home emergency supply kits (I live in earthquake country and you know you won’t be carrying your gallons of water around with you!).

The simple design makes it easy for everyone in the family to drink from and almost everyone can fill it (my 4YO can). The one family-friendly flaw is that the bottle doesn’t have a valve to stop spills in case the bottle is dropped or tipped without being seal shut first. That said, this is no different than any other water bottle with a pop top drink spout, and sippy kids are more my 21MO’s style anyway. [wink] Always remember to have the base expanded before placing upright on a surface and always remember to pop the top closed and cover with the provided lid when not using (for even of basic sanitary reasons).

I like that Sip ‘N Go is good for your body as they replenish your water supply in BPA free bottles made in the USA. Sip ‘N Go is also reusable and is top-rack dishwasher safe. Once you’re done with the product simply recycle it like a typical bulky water bottle. Sip ‘N Go is also a 1% For The Planet company, which means they give 1% of their sales to a network of 2,504 environmental organizations worldwide.

Sip ‘N Go also makes a great His and Her gift in their nifty pink and blue. Wedding shower gift for the outdoors couple? Baby shower couples gift for their hospital bag? Pick a favorite color for: Father’s Day gift for the athletic type? Sports camps for your children whether at home or away? On the “back side” of the bottle is a little tab at the bottom to label your bottle so there isn’t any confusing if your child has the same bottle as classmate!

Disclosure – A product was provided to me free of charge by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the writing of this review; however, opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

Red and Green Advent Calendar Ideas

December 1, 2010 by Momstart 3 Comments

Happy Holidays, it’s December first and yes, I really am inspired to be more green. I have always been afraid that I just can’t be green but one of the things that I learned at the Great Wolf Lodge Ecomoms event was that it all starts with baby steps. I recruited my friend Summer to help us with some of those baby steps and she has put together, MomStart’s Red and Green Event.

IMG_6975So for December 1st, Summer has some ideas on Advent Calendars and what to put in your advent calendar:

Day one of going green for the holidays with Mom Start. Take your advent calendar and in each day place a piece of paper with holiday activities you and your family can do together. This will cut down on all those useless trinkets plus if you invest in a reusable calendar then you also have less waste that way too. Include things like: make bird/squirrel feeders from popcorn, nuts and dried fruit; making a spare plate of goodies for a in family need; get your real tree (check back with Mom Start tomorrow for more on selecting a Christmas tree); make a tie-knot fleece blanket as a family and donate it.

My favorite advent calendar is one that I bought from Starbucks about five years ago give or take a year. Wow, that makes me realize that my daughter is about to turn four. Oh, sad. Anyways, it’s been great using the same one every year, we can refill it and now thanks to Summer, I realize I’ve been green all along and never even realized it.

eBay Green Team Introduces The eBay Box

November 16, 2010 by Momstart 9 Comments

Last week I spent some time in San Jose with eBay learning about different things going on around eBay. They have a great advertising campaign with Samantha Bee called the “Unwrap Attack” and it make me laugh until I cried it was so cute, real, and funny. Of course I’ll have more on that later this week, but I was so excited by The Box that I just had to share it today.

showing off the eBay box

The eBay Box is made of 100 % recycled material, and printed with an earth friendly water based ink. The eBay box is quite an exciting opportunity eBay is using as a community builder within eBay. Sellers receive the boxes and register the eBay box at thebox.ebay.com. Just by registering the box you will receive one eBay buck. How exciting is that, earn money and save the environment at the same time. Who does that? eBay does that!. Then after you sell something on-line at eBay or recycle some type of electronic product with ebay’s electronic recycling program, they will buy it back from you and then re-sell it through one of their seller’s stores, so trade in your used electronics.  I was amazed at how eBay supports their users and already has a community among the company, buyers and sellers and this eBay Box project is just going to make it an even bigger community. Then ship your box. The Ebay Box

A view inside the ebay boxOn the side of the eBay box it says,

“If this box is reused 5 times, here’s what you contribute to the planet:

13.8 lbs of wood preserved for the future,

27.3 gallons of wastewater flow saved,

3.1 lbs of solid waste not generated,

849,767 BTUs of energy not consumed,

15.2 lbs of greenhouse gasses not generated.”

I’m not generally a green blogger, but with all of the packages I receive every week, I’ve been noticing which companies or PR agencies are trying to use environmentally friendly packaging and who is not and most are not. I have so much waste every week and that’s why I’m impressed with eBay and the fact that they are aware of how much waste goes into shipping. Even recycling uses natural resources, so reusing is even better than recycling, but for those of us that are just starting to recycle, at least we’re doing something to be eco-friendly. I urge you to follow in eBay’s steps and go even greener this Holiday season and into next year.

Citizenpip Lunch Gear No Mess Starter Kit Giveaway

August 29, 2010 by Momstart 196 Comments

Another donation that I wanted to keep as soon as it arrived was from Citizenpip. Why do these companies make such great CUTE products for children going back to school? Oh I know, so people will buy it and people like me will just recommend the brand until we are blue in the face. And Yes, Citizenpip is that cute!

Zoe also asked if she could keep the lunch box and all of it’s contents and I had to say no, but this was a little easier than sometimes only because she’s not in need of a lunch box for a few years now. image

In addition to being cute, and quality, citizenpip muck-free reusable lunch gear is practical and functional.

image

These are things that I noticed:

The zipper is very easy to use, even my daughter can manage and she’s three.

Waste-Free: there are four plastic containers for you to use to send food to school, and a canteen for you to put water in. Perfect for keeping your children from throwing away a lot of packaging.

Muck-Free: the CPSIA tested the products and found that it is lead free, BPA free and contains to phthalates.

Flexible: you can use your own plastic containers while you are cleaning the other containers.

All of it is very easy to clean, the containers are all air tight and leak proof. And the plastic containers will keep things like sandwiches from getting all squished.

Made for kids and moms like me that get distracted by bright fun colors. It is light weight and seems to be quite durable, oh and did I mention that it is easy to clean. The lunch box itself and just be wiped down and sanitized if you are into that sort of thing!
