Rigging Olaf On The Frozen Press Trip #DisneyFrozenEvent

December 2, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

*****Disclosure I attending the Disney Frozen Event Press Trip, my flight and expenses were covered by Disney and all opinions are my own

On the Frozen Press Trip we interviewed a lot of people. We interviewed the two directors and the producer inside my favorite building.  Inside is just as magical as the outside, the walls are constantly changing with whatever movie the team is working on. The walls are covered in Frozen right now.

We were able to spend some time with the merchandise.

What is rigging?

Before a 3D character model can be handed over to the team of animators, it must be bound to a system of joints and control handles so that the animators can pose the model. This process is typically completed by artists known as character technical directors (TDs), or riggers.

Domino’s Pizza Dough Making Process

November 7, 2011 by Momstart 8 Comments

I had too many trip requests all come in at the same time and had to find someone to go on the Dominos Mom Blogger Press Junket. I found my friend Connie, from Miscfinds4u.com Here is her experience on Domino’s Pizza Dough Making Process.

By Connie:

I got the chance to visit a Domino’s Pizza Distribution Center in Michigan a few weeks ago and see the dough making process in person. I had no idea that Domino’s makes their own dough.

Dominos Press Trip-grouprev1The dough is made fresh at Distribution Centers across the US and Canada. Each DC makes dough 1 to 6 days a week depending on the number of stores it supports. The DC I visited makes dough 3 days a week and supports 275 stores. They break down and clean the dough making room at the end of every day and anytime the line is shut down for more than 2 hours. It takes about 4 hours to break down and scrub the room and when they start their next production day, they sanitize everything again before production begins.

It doesn’t take very many people to make massive amounts of dough when most of it is mechanized. It’s a pretty impressive process. Check out the video for details on how the dough goes from a silo of flour to finished dough loaded onto refrigerated trucks for next day delivery.

Some things I found interesting about the process:

· Dough is rejected at the quality control/template station if it’s not the correct size/weight. After working the table for some time, the men working there can tell by feel if the dough is even an ounce off. The dough is tossed into a reject bin and then sent back through the system so there’s very little waste.

· It takes 3 hours for the dough to cool from 80 degrees in the mixing room to 30 degrees in the proofing room. The dough is stacked to allow moisture to evaporate so that it stays fresher, longer. Once the dough is chilled, it’s maintained at that temperature until it’s delivered to the walk-in refrigerator at the store.

floursilo· The DC has two flour silos – each holds 55K pounds of flour – and an oil tank that pumps oil into the production room.

· There are no dough extenders or preservatives, so the dough made today is in a store within about 24 hours.

· The workers in the production team are trained to do every function within the Distribution Center and because they work in cold temperatures, they’re rotated every 2 hours so.

· I was also surprised to find out that the Distribution Center stocks everything a store needs to run from ingredients to cleaning supplies.

· Dough trays are returned to the DC and cleaned to be reused time after time.

· Domino’s is in the process of changing to “greener” cleaning chemicals.

My overall impressions were that the center was clean, very noisy, and appeared to run well. I was impressed to find out the dough was made with fresh, natural ingredients and that no dough extenders were used. I feel much bettering eating Domino’s Pizza know that I know more about them.

I’ll share some more of the experience with you over the next week. It was a fabulous look inside the pizza chains operation. Special thanks to Louise from Mom Start for allowing me to guest post.

Sneak Peak at The Secret World of Arrietty in Theaters February 17th

November 4, 2011 by Momstart 5 Comments

Early one morning while I was in LA with Disney/DreamWorks, I was shipped off to one of my favorite viewing studies, the Dick Clark Studios. There we viewed The Secret World of Arrietty.

Arrietty (voice of Bridgit Mendler),  is a borrower. She’s a tiny but very ambitious character that doesn’t have very much fear in her. I think all 14 year olds think they can conquer the world, not matter how big it may be. She lives beneath the floorboards trying to quietly live undetected in a secret world to be discovered, where the smallest may stand tallest of all.  From the legendary Studio Ghibli (“Spirited Away,” “Ponyo”) comes “The Secret World of Arrietty,” an animated adventure based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series “The Borrowers.”

‘Like’ THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY on Facebook.

"THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY" Tiny but tenacious Arrietty (voice of Bridgit Mendler) comes face to whiskers with the menacing household cat, but won't allow herself to be intimidated by this fussy feline, in Disney's release of the Studio Ghibli animated feature, "The Secret World of Arrietty." I can’t give you my full review yet, it’s still under embargo, but I can share with you that it’s quite the intellectual movie that makes you wonder where does all of our stuff go? She lives with her parents (voices of Will Arnett and Amy Poehler) in the recesses of a suburban garden home, unbeknownst to the homeowner and her housekeeper (voice of Carol Burnett). Like all little people, Arrietty (AIR-ee-ett-ee) remains hidden from view, except during occasional covert ventures beyond the floorboards to “borrow” scrap supplies like sugar cubes from her human hosts. They only take what they need.

"THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY" Human boy Shawn (right, voice of David Henrie) is astonished when he visits the garden and discovers Arrietty (voice of Bridgit Mendler) a tiny person who lives hidden with her family under the floorboards of the house where he's staying, in Disney's release of the Studio Ghibli animated feature, "The Secret World of Arrietty." Everything is find and dandy until she makes a small mistake. 12-year-old Shawn (voice of David Henrie), a human boy who comes to stay in the home, discovers his mysterious housemate one evening, a secret friendship blossoms. If discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty’s family from the home and straight into danger. The English language version of “The Secret World of Arrietty” was executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, and directed by Gary Rydstrom. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are highly successful producing partners whose films, separately and together, include “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “E.T.,” “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?,” the Indiana Jones films and the Jurassic Park films. In total, Kennedy and Marshall have earned 11 Oscar® nominations.

"THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY" Strong-willed Arrietty (left, voice of Bridgit Mendler) shows her mother, Homily (voice of Amy Poehler), an amazing object that she has "borrowed" while on her first covert mission with her father, in Disney's release of the Studio Ghibli animated feature, "The Secret World of Arrietty." The Secret World of Arrietty hits theaters Feb. 17, 2012.
