What do you do when the lights go out? The last house we lived in the electricity went out ALL the time. I mean seriously, I do not miss that house and the scheduled and unscheduled power outages. The lights were always out and once I had kids I had to make sure we had eaten before a schedule one. Of course there are unexpected things that happen all the time and the power goes out. One year we had a terrible wind storm that left most of Washington without power for a week. I remember thinking how we’d be lucky to have the power back on by Christmas. There are a few ways to be prepared, you know, batteries, candles and back up plans and it’s important to be prepared because more than likely you will be without electricity at some point in the next year.
Did You Know?
1.) On average, there are 20 million lightning strikes in the US each year, leaving hundreds of thousands in the dark, inconvenienced, and “at risk” for long periods of time.
2.) In 2009, a total of 2,470 power outages were reported in the US that kept over 30% of the nation’s households in blackout conditions for a total of 7,699 hours – or the equivalent of 321 days.
3.) According to FEMA, the use of candles in homes causes an average of 15,600 residential fires, over $120 million in property damage and loss, 150 deaths and 1,270 injuries each year.
For these reasons there is a solution to keeping your lights on as a temporary back up system. Most of the outages we had at our old house were just a few hours and if your power outage is less than 10 hours, illumaguard can help you keep your lights on. When using illumaguard make sure you let the illumaguard charge to a light for 48 hours. After you let it charge, it’s easy to use. Just turn on the the light the illumaguard is plugged into and pull out the cord. In a second, the illumaguard will provide electricity to your light for 8-10 hours. Every few hours, the amount of light will go down a bit. It loses some of its brightness. This gives it longer life allowing it to last up to 10 hours. Having the lights on when I’m home alone really helps me to feel safe. I hate the dark and I love the idea of having 8 hours of more light during a power outage. It’s also a great opportunity to go dig up the flashlights, and be able to find them without hitting your head or stumbling on toys.
You can purchase Illumaguard Table/Floor Lamp Power Outage Backup System on Amazon or illumaguard. The cost is $59.99, or two or more for $49.99 each.
