Perfect Gift for Father’s Day, Or Any Day the Nokia Lumia 900

May 26, 2012 by Momstart 7 Comments

A recent study found that 56% of new Dads post family photos online at least two times a week. With built-in social networking, sharing pictures with friends and family on Facebook and Twitter is a snap. It’s like the Swiss Army Knife of work-life-balance – it offers loads of features that make everyday tasks faster. This Father’s Day, give him the Nokia Lumia 900 jam packed with the features that will help Dad get the most out of his free time:

clip_image002· People Hub/Camera – Updating his social networks has never been easier or faster than with built-in Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. With Windows Phone, it takes only four seconds to take a picture and upload it to a social network. It’s simply faster than other phones.

· Office Hub – With the Office Hub, he can edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents right from his phone. He’ll even be able to skip out a few hours early and play hooky at the baseball game by sending email and updating those documents from anywhere.

· Groups – Put Dad in charge of the family reunion this year. With Groups he can easily group people together – family, friends, or colleagues – and pin them to his start screen. He can then check on all their social media updates in once place and keep everyone updated on the annual family get-together at once.

· Music + Videos – The Music + Videos Hub in Windows Phone puts all of Dad’s media in one place. It’s his destination for all things media and entertainment, including finding and playing his favorite songs, videos or podcasts; listening to FM radio; and downloading or streaming music from the Web. And, if Dad hears a great new song but doesn’t recognize it, he can use the new Bing Music feature to identify the song and take him to Zune Marketplace to purchase or stream it

· Apps –

ESPN ScoreCenter: Bringing him scores, news, and standings from hundreds of sports leagues around the world. ScoreCenter offers the most comprehensive global sports coverage available on the Windows Phone.

Flixster: be the first Dad on the block to see all this summer’s blockbuster action flicks. With Flixster, Dad can view the top box office leaders, upcoming movies, and new DVD releases, and watch high quality trailers for over 15,000 blockbuster and indie flicks

MSN Onit: Every day, dad will find new photos of beautiful cars, financial tips and fitness tips, style advice and sports updates, DIY from steak grilling to demolition–plus a touch of science, a touch of entertainment, and a laugh or two.

The Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone from AT&T is a premiere device priced at $99.99 with a two-year contract, making it an affordable gift for Dad that doesn’t skimp on quality or user experience.

Spring Clean and Organize Your Tech with Microsoft

February 22, 2012 by Momstart 6 Comments

I did a poll on twitter and asked if it’s soon enough to write about Spring cleaning and most people said yes it’s too soon, but they still wanted tips for winter cleaning. So if you’re still organizing for the New Year or ready to clean out for Spring, don’t forget to consider your tech and be green about cleaning out your tech.

Remember when Summer gave us some green tips on how to deal with your technology a year and a half ago. She gave us some really great tips and Microsoft has a few of their own versions of these great tips but just to remind you, here are Summer’s tips. Dispose of Batteries Properly. Know Local Places to donate used toys, electronics, and other items. Donate used items to charity. Find places to Sell Used ElectronicsFind, and ways to properly dispose of electronics and make some money doing so at Microsoft among other places. Remember you can Recycle Cell Phones through Operation Gratitude, and Turn off Vampire Appliances to save energy. Microsoft recently sent me some other great ideas and ways to clean up your tech at the Microsoft Store. Here are their tips:

image

Out with the Old, In with the New (In Store): Already have your new PC and need to get rid of your old one? Just bring your computer, phone or other device into the nearest Microsoft Store and they will happily recycle it for you. Even better, if they determine your computer still has value, we’ll give you a Microsoft store gift card for that amount. Just like Summer said, make some money off your old appliances. We’ve been doing that with some of our old stuff.

PC Tune-Up (In Store): Let trained technicians at a Microsoft Store closest to you help improve the speed, performance, and security of your PC. I’ve been really bad about this, I usually just deem my machine to be out of date and in need of replacement. It’s a good idea if you’re not ready to upgrade to just get some help with the one you have. Plus it’s greener to use your machine as long as possible. image

Sign up for a Personal Trainer (The Tech Kind): With Microsoft’s One-Hour Personal Training sessions at $49.99, you can learn at your own pace, the way you want to. Get the most out of your PC experience with a one-on-one training session with a Microsoft Answer Tech. You can customize your hour to concentrate on the topics you want to learn about most, like creating documents or newsletters, organizing your email inbox, creating photos and videos with Windows Live Essentials, and much more.

  1. Get dedicated one-on-one time with an expert – ask the questions you want and learn the way that works best for you
  2. Learn from the comfort of your own home or office – you’ll receive your training remotely via chat and phone
  3. Training covers the latest Microsoft software, from the company that designed Windows 7 and Office 2010
  4. You’re learning experience is tailored to the topics you want to focus on

· Manage the family calendar online: With Windows Hotmail Calendar, you can keep track of everyone’s schedules all at once. Don’t worry about trying to remember what time to pick up the kids from soccer practice and make it to your dentist appointment on time; it’s all in your calendar and easily accessible online or on your mobile phone.

How To Get a Free Xbox 360 4G and a Free Xbox 360 Game

May 23, 2011 by Momstart 1 Comment

They say nothing in life is free, and there is quite a bit of truth to that statement, but there are ways to get really great values and Microsoft is offering some pretty sweet deals for Xbox 360 fans.

Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor copyStudents in need of a new computer are eligible for a free Xbox 360. If you are in high-school, college or some university and purchase a Windows PC priced at only $699 or more at a participating retailer then you will get a free Xbox 360 4G console. Choose the Windows PC that has what you need for school, you pick the size and features that suit your needs, at  your price (at least 699) and then you get an Xbox 360 while supplies last. Students with an .edu email address can purchase a new PC through one of Microsoft’s participating retailers including Dell.com, HP.com or the Microsoft Store. Students will need to verify student status in order to purchase. Check your local retailer for specifics. Quantities are limited and end dates vary by retailer so shop early starting May 22, that was yesterday!

Another awesome deal is with Verizon and their new Windows 7 phone. I’m super excited about the phone finally, yes finally coming out on Verizon. We’re going to order our phone really soon, I need it for social media. My current smart phone is not that smart, I can’t wait to be able to upload directly from my phone to Facebook. Anyways, back to the really cool deal. If you’re with Verizon or thinking of switching to Verizon you may be eligible for a free Xbox 360 game. Starting May 26 on-line or in Verizon retail stores starting June 2 there is a special promo: for anyone who gets the HTC Trophy before July 15, they’ll get a free Xbox 360 console game (valued up to $60). You read that right, a free video game. Check out the Windows Phone Blog for more details on the offer. Windows Phones are now available on all four major carriers.
