8 Creative and Fun Ways to Celebrate Dad’s Birthday

November 11, 2014 by Momstart 1 Comment

Do you want to celebrate dad’s birthday in such a way that he will never forget? Here are a few creative and fun birthday party ideas that will blow dad’s mind.

Throw a Theme Party from Dad’s Decade

If he is turning 40, then throw a party based on 1940s. Have all of your guests dress in 1940s style clothing, with a focus on Rosie the Riveter outfits, World War II styles, and bugle beads. For a 1950s event, throw a sock hop party or have a retro barbecue, and wear outfits inspired by the movie Grease. These parties can range from mild to wild, depending on the audience. Get great gift ideas for men to enhance the party, or keep the gifts contemporary for your guest of honor. These gifts will be remembered for years to come. It’s all about the experience.

Have a This Is Your Life Party

Have people from dad’s past, such as school teachers, grandparents, and friends, all tell stories about when they knew him. For those people who cannot attend in person, have a guest substitute help with the storytelling. Make the event humorous and fun, and turn it into a roast for your dad. If your guests are creative, have them include characters such as the ghost of Christmas past, favorite movies roles, or even the police in their stories. Just remember that this is a celebration of the best parts of dad’s life.

Celebrate a Milestone

Forty is a big birthday. Commemorate it with a mock funeral for dad. Have everyone dress in black. Ask guests to read eulogies mourning the loss of youth and the onset of old age. Sign him up for AARP. Rent a walker. Have guests dress like nurses. Supply gag gifts such as prunes and denture adhesive to make the event humorous. If this milestone birthday is more traumatic than funny for dad, use the event to show him how much life he has left.

Recreate a Movie

Take dad’s favorite movie and have his friends and family dress up as characters from the movie. Study a few lines, and then just ad lib. This can be a wonderful surprise party theme, too. Hit the clubs or go to dinner dressed as characters. It will draw attention to the guest of honor, and the world will help you celebrate, too. A few great possibilities for a movie theme dad will love include Star Wars, X-Men, and Captain America.

Design a Treasure Hunt

Make dad work for his party in a fun way. He has to find the party based on the clues you’ve left. If dad would rather let the party come to him, your treasure hunt can involve all of the guests. Ask everyone to assemble the clues to find dad. Have them check in on social media and post pictures along the way to create a fun account of what must be a wonderful birthday for dad.

Take a Trip

Take him someplace that he has always wanted to go. Have him scratch something off of his bucket list. Do something that is important to him. Visit the Grand Canyon, jump out of an airplane, learn to scuba dive in the Caribbean, or go on an eco tour. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Make it the trip of a lifetime, and let the focus be on him.

Celebrate with a Color Party

Make sure you know what dad’s favorite color is. If it’s green, then have a green party. If it is blue, have a cool blue-themed party. Have everyone dress the color, and make sure all of the food fits the theme. Get creative and oversaturate the festivities with his favorite hues.

Throw an Oscar Event

Have guests dress up as their favorite Hollywood star. Use door prizes and draw names as you read off the Oscar categories. Be sure to induct dad into the Hall of Fame. Have a guest give a speech about his life, focusing on all the roles dad has played. Celebrate dad and have fun.

Whichever theme you choose, be sure to go over the top. The more people who take part, the more fun the event will be. Rent decorations and costumes, and celebrate dad’s birthday in style.

How to Have a Transformers Birthday Party

February 20, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

If your boy is anything like mine then he loves Transformers. My son’s favorite is Bumblebee, followed by Optimus Prime. As a mom of a young boy like this you quickly find that being able to transform transformers becomes part of your job description. As does being able to put together a fabulous Transformers Party at the drop of a hat. Where does one go for great ideas. Pinterest of course.

While searching Pinterest, I found Catch My Party.

In addition to those decorations there was also this birthday cake

Host a Themed (Halloween) Popsicle Party #PopsicleMom & Giveaway

October 25, 2013 by Momstart 355 Comments

I’m a Popsicle Mom working with the Popsicle Brand to bring you guys a Popsicle summer. I am being compensated for my time, but all my opinions and love of the brand belong to me.

I was looking at the Popsicle Facebook page and I saw this really cute idea. What a great fun way to decorate your table and let the kids have popsicles. I love letting the kids have popsicles because they are so low in calories and the kids consider it a snack plus they really can be eaten at any time. It doesn’t have to be summer and it doesn’t have to be warm.

popsicle Halloween party

So I put together a Halloween party and my party was so much fun and easy to decorate the table. This table took me five minutes to create.

IMG_9130

Popsicles are a great decoration to a paper cup or a clear glass. I find that the effect in the clear glass is even cooler. Plus no matter what theme you decide to go with you’ll find a matching color popsicle to go with it.

IMG_9129

Even when the popsicles start to melt I still they look really cool in the glasses.

The kids love reading the jokes after they eat their popsicles. Now, I also found some really great crafts to do with popsicle sticks, I’m going to save that for one of my HP projects so stay tuned.

8 Fun Birthday Parties for your Kids!

April 17, 2013 by Momstart 2 Comments

By Autumn,

I’m a working mom of an adorable 4 year-old who is, how to put it most effectively? …energetic. Between work, picking her up at daycare, getting dinner on the table, giving her a bath and trundling her off to bed, the amount of time I have for taking care of things like paying bills, folding laundry, packing lunches, and maybe squeezing in a shower for myself is vanishingly rare, indeed. But what the heck am I supposed to about the times that I need some of that extra time for planning something as important as my kid’s birthday party?

Sure, I could just have the party at a park with a climbing structure and a box of grocery store cupcakes (of COURSE I haven’t done that, what kind of slacker mom do you take me for, cough cough cough) but wouldn’t it be even better if there were an online marketplace for parties and events. Well.. wait no longer PlaceFull is here.

Discover incredible birthday parties for the kiddos in your life at PlaceFull, a one-stop-shop for busy parents and professionals planning all of life’s celebrations and events.Three M Parties 2

Three M Parties will get you planned up from top-to-bottom with a theme of your kiddos choosing. Spiderman, princesses, Star Wars, or Pirates, nothing is beyond Tamara and her party-planning minions. They’ll show up at your house on party day, take care of all the decorating, run the party from start to finish, and handle the messy business of clean up. She can even bring in the birthday cake! You get to actually enjoy your kid’s birthday rather than trying to coordinate it all, Heaven!gymagine

At GYMagine Gymnastics in Mukilteo they’ll not only run the birthday party but also provide great physical activity to virtually guarantee an early bedtime. All you need to bring are the nibbly treats and drinks, they’ll take care of the rest!salmonhatch
Do you have a budding ichthyologist? Check out Issaquah Salmon Hatchery for a party that includes a behind the scenes tour of the hatchery, a chance to feed the fishies, and games and activities led by a FISH staffer. Bring along your cake and goodies but leave everything else to the pros.SkyMania

Trampolines and birthdays are a match made in heaven if you ask me. Turn the kiddos loose on a room filled with trampolines at Kirkland’s Skymania and watch the fun unfold before your eyes. All party packages include pizza and soda but only the two higher packages include birthday cake so plan accordingly. My recommendation, go all out with the SupremeAir party package and don’t worry about a thing. ponyparadise

One word for throwing the BEST birthday party: Ponies. Throw your party on-site or have Pony Paradise Rides bring the four-legged fun to you. They’ll even dress their ponies up in costume to fit the theme of your party. I can practically hear my 4 year-old having a heart attack in the next room at the mere thought of real, live ponies at her birthday.

Roxbury Lanes is positively made for birthdays and family fun. Get the kiddos bowling for an afternoon of fun and birthday celebrating in high style. discoveryvillage

If you’re the parent of a younger kid living in the South Sound then Discovery Village is a lifesaver. Not only do they offer open play times (all day!), a money saving consignment shop, a pre-school, but also an incredible birthday party program designed to make your life easier and to give kids a birthday celebration to remember.Mercer Island Party

Parents of rock star wannabes REJOICE! The Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club will get your kid on the road to musical fame and riches with their “Party Like a Rockstar Party”. Take center stage with the karaoke machine and Microsoft Kinect’s Dance Party. MCIBGC will provide everything but the cake and the guests, they’ll even take care of the smashed up hotel room afterwards. Just kidding.

My daughter loves the Ladybug Girl books and we read about her adventures all the time.
