OUTFITTING OSCAR DIGGS aka OzCostume designer Gary Jones worked closely with both director Sam Raimi and actor James Franco to conceive the look of Oscar Diggs aka Oz, saying, “In preparing Oz’s clothes, Sam had a very clear idea what he wanted. I had met with James as well, and we were all heading in the same direction, which was terrific.” Jones’ research for Franco’s tailoring took him on a journey that had nostalgic meaning for the veteran costumer, who has a history with Ringling Bros. “Our story begins in a circus, which is the most period-accurate part of the film,” the longtime designer says. “We researched everything from the largest circus to the poorest, most downtrodden carnival entertainers from the turn-of-the-century to the Dust Bowl. We covered the period between 1880-1930 in our research. Having worked with the Ringling Bros. circus was an added joy because I loved that experience. So, to have another moment with a circus was really terrific for me.” With inspiration and some vintage photos in hand, Jones met actor James Franco in a SoHo coffee shop in New York, where he shared the photos he had brought from the turn-of-the-century. Some were of Alexander Graham Bell, some of the Wright Brothers—all people that L. Frank Baum had admired. “Those were things that we started with and that’s how we got to Oz’s final wardrobe design—a black cutaway suit from the turn-of-the-century, which I am very proud to have designed,” Jones concludes. Franco, commenting on his costume, says, “I only have one look in this film, a three-piece suit that Oz wears in Kansas. I think it’s safe to say that that was my favorite outfit in the film! Knowing that people dressed really well in the old days, I enjoyed wearing that three-piece suit quite a bit.” June 11 OZ The Great and Powerful comes to DVD

Oz Doll Description
Oz is ready for all the adventure that awaits him on his journey through the strange and vibrant land. He is dressed in coat and top hat, carrying a travel bag. He carries China Girl, a porcelain girl who he befriends and takes under his wing.
He’s a very good doll. Both of my kids wanted to play with him. Zoe has Glinda so I figured it would be great for Miles to have Oz (Oscar Diggs), then they can play Oz the Great and Powerful with each other. They love to re-enact movies.

Next week I’m going to embark on an adventure full of color and magic as I set foot on The Yellow Brick Road. I’m hoping that as I follow it along I’ll get to meet the wizard himself and ask him what his favorite part of OZ was. I have yet to receive my full itinerary but I do know that my hot air balloon owned by Alaska Airlines will be landing on Wednesday.
From there I will travel over a magical black steed that will take me to my hotel in Munchkin Land where I’ll meet up with 25 other Munchkins all looking forward to meeting the Wizard. We here he’s going to save OZ. At least that’s what the Witches of OZ have been saying.
I have so many questions to ask and can’t wait to have the answers. I hope, no I pray I don’t run into the wicked witch, the green one because she gives me nightmares.
I’ve picked out my makeup:
Urban Decay OZ The Great and Powerful Glinda Make Up
The OPI OZ The Great and Powerful Nail Lacquer liner Liquid Sand
And I’ve picked out my dress. Finding the right dress to walk the yellow brick road was an adventure in itself. I had a dress picked out from Shabby Apple and then found out it would take five to six weeks just to make the dress, so I was left to find another dress. From store to store I searched and searched and I finally found it. I’m not going to show you a picture. You’ll just have to follow along during the #DisneyOzEvent on twitter next week to find out just how elegant the 25 of us will look.

I’m excited to be walking the red carpet again and the buzz on the yellow brick road is that the gown color to go with is of course emerald green. As much as I adore the color and already have a suitable dress in that shade, I don’t want to wear the same color as everyone else. So I spent hours last night looking at dresses and what I would like to wear down the red carpet. (I have a feeling it will be a yellow brick road instead of the red carpet so it’s going to be extra special requiring an extra special dress).
Let’s first take a look at some scenes from the movie shall we?
When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great wizard—and just maybe into a better man as well.
So as you can see all the colors are so bright and vivid. Any color would work as a fashionable choice, the styles of clothing are big and grand. I think Jackets are going to be big and dresses with colors and large shoulders, but accessories your shoulders do not wear shoulder pads. I love how the Wicked Witch’s dress has pointy shoulders out to the side. So as I was looking at dresses last night these are my finds. I made a whole pin board for it. Oz the Great and Powerful Dresses.
I think this dress is my favorite dress, it has the emerald green in it but also a few other colors making it very rich and colorful. Reminds me of the scene with the munchkins.
Here are more green/blue dresses:
Now here are a few dresses with the larger shoulders or black; bad witch inspired.
I’m also getting a feeling that dresses that are flowing and drapery on the figure are going to big. I love all of these off the shoulder dresses.
I picked a few that remind me of a tornado too.
What do you think? Do you like any of these dresses and what should I wear? Do any of these dresses look like they are inspired by the movie Oz the great and powerful?
“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth, with screen story by Mitchell Kapner and screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. Grant Curtis, Palak Patel, Josh Donen and Philip Steuer are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.
I’m so excited to see OZ. I grew up watching The Wizard of Oz with my family every year for a long time. It always came on during tornado season and it would be eerie to watch it the same time a storm would pop up. I even read part of The Wizard of Oz but I haven’t read any of the other book and seeing this movie in the making really makes me want to read the book, and even read it to my kids. Check out this new trailer:
Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well.
