The Humor of Oz The Great and Powerful Zach Braff #DisneyOzEvent

March 14, 2013 by Momstart 5 Comments

“Two Buddies on a road trip” that’s how Zach Braff (Finley) described what Sam Rami (Producer of Oz the Great and Powerful) expected of the relationship between Oz and Finley. And to achieve that, Zach had to be on set quite a bit, which is unusual for a movie like this because Finley is a CGI created monkey/puppet that walks and talks and flies.

image

I’ve seen Oz The Great and Powerful and my favorite character is Finley, he’s charming, has heart and very funny. He makes sure the Oz stays on the right path. You know what he wore? He wore a Onesie and I’ve been looking everywhere for a picture of him in the onesie but I can’t find one. I heard a rumor that he even wore it during his interview on Conan O’Brian.

I was like just scrunched down like in this blue screen Onesie [LAUGHTER] which is really adorable and for six months no matter how many times I put it on, everyone pointed and laughed at me [LAUGHTER]. I sat on my butt and kind of hunched over, I was thirty-six inches tall.…… Sam wanted me to, he wanted to capture everything you know, um, gestures and- and my facial expressions.

When he wasn’t on set he was in a box

Other times there was a puppet that I would kind of operate and when he needed to be flying. And then there’s times when I couldn’t be there at all, and I’d be in this booth with cameras all around me. James would be looking at a monitor that was kind of on a pole. And then he’d get the tiny ear piece in his ear so that he could hear me.

image

Q : What was one of your most memorable moments during filming?

I love the moment when we find China Girl and James is putting her back together. Because it genuinely was so moving. I mean, even on set, it was so moving. We were on all these giant sets and for the first time we were literally sitting and it was so surreal. We were literally sitting in a tea kettle and it was James and Joey King and the puppeteer. They had this beautiful marionette puppet, because she was small enough that she could actually have a marionette puppet. It was just so sweet and beautiful. And I actually had my eyes welled, and I said to Sam, I go, I think the monkeys like, .. that’s when I discovered that I wanted the monkey to almost be like an easy crier. Like [LAUGHTER] I- ’cause I was like, my- my eyes really genuinely welled and I was like, I was like, Sam, well let’s have him like covertly- he doesn’t want Oz to see that he’s crying, so let’s have him covertly swipe the tear. And then they kept in the movie, it was really sweet.

Another thing Sam really wanted from the relationship between Oz and Finley was banter. He wanted the two of them to “riff”. The two of them would be going a long and they would give each other a very hard time and Finley was pretty funny. Zach said that it was Scrubs that was a great training ground to be able to come up with his on the spot humor.

I had a wide range of physical comedy from Scrubs, and also the improvisational stuff, ’cause on Scrubs what we would do is, you know, the rule was, do one. Once we have one as written, you guys can play around. And come up with stuff. And a lot of the stuff people loved, came out of us improving on Scrubs. And on this movie it was so big, I was like, they’re not going to have time for any of that. But Sam really wanted that, he’s like, I want you and James to riff. I want you to find those new jokes, I was really glad that you know, Scrubs was great training ground, to be able to do this.

Want to see Zach and James in action? Check out Oz the Great and Powerful now in theaters.

Joey King Talks Twitter China Girl and Oz The Great and Powerful #DisneyOzEvent

March 10, 2013 by Momstart 2 Comments

A group of 20 mommy bloggers sat down with Joey King to interview her for her role in Oz The Great and Powerful. She was such a fun young lady to talk to, she loves twitter, her character and Finley!

image

Q: How did you get involved with the project?

I got involved with the project, I auditioned for it and I really loved it. It was so exciting for me, and magical, ‘cause I’m a huge fan of the original movie. And when I went to the screen test, I got to meet Sam there. And it was just amazing. I wanted to be a part of it really badly because it seemed like such a fun thing to do, and it was just a breathtaking movie.

image

Q: What did you think of your finished character when you saw the movie for the first time?

When I saw the movie at the premier, that was the first time I’d seen it. I had only seen about 20 minutes of it before. But it was really exciting for me, because I got to play two characters. I played a little girl in a wheel chair in Kansas, and then I played China Girl in the Land of Oz. So it was really cool to see how everything came together, and how they did China Girl, They used CGI technology, and they filmed my face, and attached my expressions onto China Girl. So it was really like I was watching myself, but in an animated character.

image

Q: Do you feel like it was easy getting into the character?

I think that it was. There’s parts I’ve done before where it’s very difficult to get into that mode, and you have to be very, different than yourself. But, you know, I am always up for a challenge, and I love those kind of things, this one was a little bit more close to my personality. She’s very sassy, and she has a lot of personality. She’s very energetic, and she’s little, not that I’m saying I am. But she’s just a little bit manipulative in a way……… Uh, but I pull pranks on my sister, so I can’t say that I’m not.

image

Q: What was your favorite part about the movie?

There’s so many great parts about filming the movie, it was all really exciting for me. You know? ‘Cause I love the original, and I just loved everything about the script. One of my favorite parts was just getting to work with everyone, like James, Mila, Zach, Michelle, and, Sam Raimi is an amazing director, an amazing person, and I love the way he works. He’s, he’s very precise, and he catches every little detail. But it makes all the difference. And he let us really play around with it. And that made it just feel really more natural. And also, the cast…. Michelle’s like a mom, more like a mom figure to me. Mila’s like a sister to me. Zach is like a brother to me, and James is always teasing me on set. And he’s like a brother to me, too. So I love them all.

image

Q: Did you get to hang out with the puppet much?

I got to be on set a lot, which was really cool. They filmed my face in the booth. But Zach and I, ‘cause we were in the same booth together, we got to go on set a lot, and they brought the cameras on set, and the puppeteer, Philip Hover, he was amazing. His work with the puppeteer…. she had so many strings on her, and he knew what every one worked, and it was so cool to watch. So I got to hang out with her a lot. It was almost like she was a real person. I forgot that she was just a puppet. That was really exciting and neat.

image

Q: What was your favorite scene in the movie?

My favorite scene was when, well, I have a ton, ‘cause there’s so many, and there’s so many good ones with Finley. Trying to go on Oz, and Michelle, but one of my favorite scenes is when I’m convincing Oz to let me go with him, and Finley on their journey to hunt the Wicked Witch. And that scenes is my favorite because, you get to see this side of China Girl where she’s kind of that manipulative little girl. But she really, really wants to hang out with them and go with them, and she just wants to go on this adventure. She’s a very adventurous little girl, and she’s an orphan. Because her parents had, passed away when the Wicked Witch destroyed her town.

image

Then we told her China Girl was trending on twitter…

JOEY KING : It is?

Yes.

JOEY KING : No way! What? It’s trending on Twitter?

Yes.

JOEY KING : Ah! I’m so excited right now! That is so cool! I have to tell my mom!

We made flying monkey trend for Zach earlier.

JOEY KING : Oh, that’s so cool! Thank you’!

Q: What was your favorite character other than your own?

Definitely Finley. Finley was so cute! In the movie he’s so funny. And you know? I think that it’s kind of cool because Finley and China Girl kinda bring, the movie ..it has a… It has the good guy, bad guy, the suspense and everything. And I like that Finley and China Girl kinda bring a certain humor and light to it. And, and it really, lightens the movie up, and I love that. And Finley is definitely, hands down my favorite character because he’s so funny. I was laughing so hard, and Zach was sitting behind me at the premier, and we were laughing together. And, I really, I really like those two characters, Finley and China Girl. But Finley’s my favorite.

Must See In 3D Oz The Great and Powerful Review #DisnyOzEvent

March 8, 2013 by Momstart 9 Comments

A movie must see, and you must see it in 3D Oz the Great and Powerful will be enchanting theaters all over the world today. I see movies in 3D all the time and most the time I think it’s a waste of money but not Oz the Great and Powerful. Oz the Great and Powerful starts off with the most amazing 3D effects and at some point I felt like I crossed over the rainbow and was there myself, instead of sitting in a theater with 3D glasses on. It was amazing.

clip_image00114_thumb

Oz the Great and Powerful is a strong combination of real sets and CGI. The film is directed by Sam Raimi and he made some amazing decisions on cast, such as James Franco as the wizard, Michelle Williams as Glinda, Mila Kunis as Theodora and Rachel Weisz as Evanora. The four of them make a powerful punch as the movie progresses and surprises are revealed. But let’s start at the beginning. Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics has to make a dash to get out of one of his situations and as he is escaping he is sucked into a tornado. We are taken on his journey from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz and the 3D effects are brillian. Of course when he lands he finds out that he was expected and is now rich…..fame and fortune are his for the taking. That is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.

oz

The color of Oz is amazing, the worlds are amazing. I say worlds because each city in the land of Oz is so grand. In one city we meet China Girl and she’s played by Joey King. Along the yellow brick road before even meeting China Girl we meet Finley played by Zach Braff. Finley becomes Oscar’s good conscience and the comic relief as he’s quite a funny monkey.  Oscar suddenly finds himself reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.monkey

Going down the yellow brick road again in this prequel was a fantastic illusion that transported me into the land of Oz. The only time I was brought back into the theater was when The Flying monkeys came flying out of the screen and I jumped out of my seat. I enjoyed it so much that I would pay for the 3D ticket price and take my husband with me.

I’m Off To Find The Wizard: My Hot Air Balloon Ride with James Franco #DisneyOzEvent

March 3, 2013 by Momstart 5 Comments

My Interview with James Franco started in a hot air balloon. I was so fortunate to have the time to step into the hot air balloon that would take me directly to Oz, where I would find the wizard himself; James Franco. Disney took video of me inside the balloon and their video was so fancy I didn’t have any software able to edit it with so here it is take one and take two of my hot air balloon ride to Oz.

I got to pull the fire. It was AMAZING. Then I was also Glinda using my want against the terrible tornado.

OZ_TweetSuite_Louise Bishop_Feb_15_1

Then once I was finally in Oz, I participated in a group interview of James Franco. First, I’m going to tell you that James Franco was much more than I expected. I realized that he’s very intelligent, not your typical celebrity, and possibly intimidated by a roomful of mommy bloggers. I’ve read that he’s one of the most schooled celebrities there are. He has quite a few degrees and keeps striving for more. One of my readers wanted to know if he ever sleeps and I can report that yes he does. He sleeps about six hours a night and works as hard as he does because it’s what he enjoys and wants out of life right now.

“my job is what I love and, um, so I don’t need a relief from it like someone who doesn’t like their job. I just kind of move from project to project because, it’s how I enjoy life. So it seems like I’m doing a lot of things but, it’s really just because I fill all of my time with these things rather than, half of my time.”

Now, let’s delve into what he thought about playing with wizard and the rest of the cast.

160550130BS00011_Walt_Disne

Q. How was working with magic, can you still do it now?

I can. Well, I had to train. I trained with a Vegas magician, Lance Burton and he showed me a lot of the secret tricks and I got pretty good at it. There’s a scene in the beginning of the film where we see Oz, doing his act in the traveling circus. And there were more tricks in the original act that I learned so I could make doves materialize out of nothing and pull rabbits out of hats. But, it didn’t make the cut. It was fun to learn anyways.160550130BS00057_Walt_Disne

Q. How was it working with Finley and China Girl?

Zach Braff plays the flying monkey, Finley, and, Joey King plays the China Girl, the doll made out of porcelain. Those were some of my favorite scenes. I thought they were, just great characters and, great kind of oddball sidekicks to have in the land of Oz. And then I loved Joey and Zack. I would do anything with them. They’re great collaborators. The actual process of interacting with CG characters is it’s own kind of thing, but, filmmakers and, actors are getting more and more use to it. So it’s not as if I’m just acting to nothing the whole time. There’s a process you go through, and I had great training………In the early takes, Zach would be there with me so I could interact with him, and then for the China Girl, there was a great, puppeteer who could bring this puppet to life, Then I would hear Joey’s voice in my ear. And then the doll would react to what she was saying.

So you do that in the early takes and if the animators, or the computer animators want, they can always use my side of those takes. Then paint out Zack or paint out the puppet. But then at the end of that series of takes, the scene is sort of ingrained in me or, I know the flow of the, of the interaction. I will eventually have a take where I’m, acting to nothing and if you, [LAUGHS], were a guest that day and saw that, you’d think, I’m an insane person or something.

So that’s what it’s like working with a puppet, at least according to James Franco. Oh and I have to mention he couldn’t pick a favorite witch. He loved working with all of them equally! He’s a very smart man to answer the question in that way. You can find out just how smart the Wizard really is in theaters March 8th.

Under Cover with Mila Kunis Who Plays Theodora In Oz The Great and Powerful #DisneyOZEvent

February 28, 2013 by Momstart 6 Comments

Please don’t laugh at me as I admit the following to you. When I was given the interview itinerary and told which members of the Oz the Great and Powerful talent we were going to interview I had no idea who Mila Kunis was. Alright, it’s ok if you laugh at me, my husband even laughed at me as Mila Kunis was a name even he recognized. Mila was Jackie on That 70’s Show, and one of the voices on Family Guy. Oh yeah, now I know who she is. In Oz the Great and Powerful Mila plays Theodora and if you’ve read the books you know all about her. If you haven’t read the books than let’s delve into what Mila thinks of her and what she thinks of Oz.

image

Mila thinks of Theodora as a women scorned. Thinking myself about the color jacket she wears in the movie I can see it in more ways than one. She’s an amazing character and Mila did an amazing job showing how complex she is. She loves here sisters, misses her father, and has an innocence of trust in people and all of the can change very easily when tested.

I think it’s just a woman scorned and it’s a character that goes through a transformation, an emotional transformation of a heartache and just so happens to transform in color but I think that the deep rooted aspect of it is just, you know, a broken heart

Mila moved to America in 1991 and said that her first memory of the Oz industry was when she read her first Oz book, Return to Oz.

I think the first book when I was nine years old, full length book in English that I read was Return to Oz. And I’ve spoken about this completely independent of this movie prior to ever being attached to this film that as a kid the first movie that I remember seeing that resonated with me was the Wizard of Oz. I think just visually the color, the spectrum of it and how fantastical it was and how much you wanted to live in that world, for a nine year old was so magical and so grand so I have the greatest, fondest memories of it.

image

We asked Mila what her favorite scene was?

What was my favorite scene to do? Uh, it wasn’t the waterfall sequence I’ll tell you that, uh, ‘cause it was dirty. But, uh, my favorite? I think appearing in Glinda’s castle is really fun for me just ‘cause it was an extra ten day to shoot. It was a long day. Hindsight 20, 20 was really fun. If you asked me while I was there I probably would have been miserable but, it was really fun to do. Michelle and I never had anything to do other than that one scene and we really wanted to work with one another and that was our one and only opportunity to do it.

We also wanted to know how Mila liked working with the rest of the cast

James and I, I think counted — it’s our eighth movie together, eight projects together so he doesn’t count. We’re stuck with one another. Rachel and I had a fantastic time. We had so much fun and Michelle and I literally get to do one thing together and we are dying to work more so we all had a great time and Detroit was really fun, FYI, in case anybody wants to go to Detroit. I love it. I did.

For much of the interview we were laughing with her and she was joking about how she’s never been in a room with mommy bloggers before. Mila is as far as I can tell very intelligent and extremely funny with a very sarcastic way about herself. She’s the kind of woman that would be great to hang out with and have drinks.

Oz the Great and Powerful joins us in theaters March 8th.

Oz The Great and Powerful’s Evanora Interview with Rachel Weisz #DisneyOZEvent

February 26, 2013 by Momstart 2 Comments

Rachel Weisz is as beautiful as she is evil playing Evanora one of the naughty witches of OZ. She sat down with us after the Premiere of Oz The Great and Powerful to chat about being evil and working with Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and James Franco.

160550130BS00003_Walt_Disne

Her first question was about her costume, did she like wearing her costume or playing an evil character more?

You know what? It’s weird. They were the same the thing. When I put that costume on I became that character. I couldn’t have played her without that corset, and sequence, and feathers, and lashes, and lips, and pushed up boobs. The costume was a huge, huge part of the character, and it was very fun to be so nasty.

As she laughed we all laughed along with her. I could imagine it being fun to play a nasty character. She also described her badness as not being really bad. I mean she was having so much fun and you tell she was having fun, she was “Disney” bad which really helps in keeping the movie a family film. Oz the Great and Powerful scene

The next question involved her most memorable moment while filming?

Evanora really enjoyed torturing, Glenda, when she was chained in the Emerald City, but, um, and I do, too. It was just really fun. I mean I get along brilliantly. Michelle she’s fellow mom, and, she’s a lovely lady, but that was just a really fun scene, being that bad. And then just pure fun without being evil was flying. Flying is really fun, a little scary and quite exciting, like having a, having a really good rollercoaster ride.

And she did all her own stunts. Here’s another reason I wish I was an actress, I love costumes and rollercoaster rides.

She was asked how she prepared for the film?

Really there was nothing that could help me prepare. Obviously, there’s no witches I could interview or talk to, and, uh it’s just pure fantasy. So, the costume, as I said, was a huge part of finding the character, and it’s just, just pure make belief. There was absolutely no research, just make belief, just like being a kid basically.

Evanora green lightning

She was also asked if she was nervous taking on such a classic film?

I’m nervous at any role that I do; there’s the fear that you might, you know, suck. So [LAUGHS], so, and I wouldn’t really do a role unless I wasn’t nervous about it, because that’s what’s exciting is trying something new, and I’ve never done anything like this. I’ve never played a fantasy character. I’ve been doing very kind of gritty, earth-bounds, you know, gals with no makeup, and very different kinds of things. So, for me it was scary, ’cause it’s a new, uh, new thing.

And I asked her how she liked working with the rest of the cast?

Really great. I mean I did most of my scenes with Mila, my sister, and, a few scenes with James, and then a few scenes with Glenda, and it was real. Of course, with my monkeys, with my, with my army, with my army of monkeys, that was really fun, the army of monkeys. I really got scream orders at them. It was really fun. It was really fun with all of them.

Which witch is Evanora, find out when Oz the Great and Powerful joins us in theaters March 8th.

Oz The Great and Powerful’s Sam Raimi Interview Directing A Classic #DisneyOZEvent

February 22, 2013 by Momstart 6 Comments

Is Oz The Great and Powerful worth seeing in the theater?

Yes

Is Oz The Great and Powerful worth seeing in 3D?

Yes

Do The Actors in Oz The Great and Powerful fit their characters?

Yes

WHY?

Because Sam Raimi put thought into every decision he made in creating Oz The Great and Powerful. We had the chance to sit down with Sam Raimi the director of Oz The great and powerful and pick his brain about creating a prequel to the classic movie The Wizard of OZ.

What’s it like having the weight of the Oz movie on your shoulders?

I had a great sense of responsibility not to tread upon the good name and the beloved classic, “The Wizard of Oz”. That was my biggest fear.

He went on to say that he wouldn’t even read the script for a while. A few weeks went by and he finally read something a writer gave him and he started falling in love with the characters and the world of OZ. He loved the idea of a selfish man with goodness inside him is able to transform into a good man. Which helped him choose the actor James Franco. image

At first he wanted Johnny Depp and that wasn’t working out for him and he thought about James. He had a history with James on Spiderman and really felt that James Franco was OZ. He was a man that in the beginning of his acting career was a little bit selfish and looked only at himself but over the years in the industry has grown into a good man with a heart. And that’s actually how he chooses all of his characters. It’s more than an audition for him. Actors will come in and pretend to be someone, he wants to strip all that acting away and find the raw character in each of them.

And that’s what casting’s about for me. Finding the essence of the character in a person……basically, different actors I heard wanted to come in and read and audition for the role. And I’d meet and talk with them. And it went very much like any other process for the actors, for the technicians. We would discuss the work. And if we found that we were talking about the same thing and we’re really connecting, then usually we would bring them aboard for the project.

What about the sets?

I can’t believe that most of the movie the sets are real. I can’t imagine stepping into a china house and the plants, oh man you have to see this movie.

image

It was important for me to have real places for the actors to touch and see so they could ground the movie. Because it’s such a fantastical adventure, I really needed to ground it more than a regular drama with real human performances. We had to explain the emotions that we understand and can connect to.We also had sets because I wanted a very unique look in Chinatown, a unique look in Emerald City. I wanted the Land of Oz to be this uniquely fantastical place. The dark forest to be a particular type of scary, et cetera. So many worlds within this fantastic world.……James Franco on that yellow brick road. Dappled sunlight happening on that yellow brick road, the CG artists had to continue that world to do just that….They don’t have to create it on their own because I thought I’d lose control of the look of the picture. So I wanted to specifically always have some stylistic element on film and the artist’s job was to extend.

What about the scare factor?

Sam Raimi admitted that this was always at the foremost part of his mind. He had to keep Oz The Great and Powerful a family movie. If you think about The Wizard of OZ there are a few scary parts in the movie. OZ The Great and Powerful has the same types of scary scenes as the The Wizard of OZ.

image

there really isn’t any violence in the movie. The worst it gets is, the scary baboons that come out of the mist. Then they go looking for our main characters so they hide in the cave. Or there’s a scary witch at the very end. But I thought, I changed the makeup once or twice to make it a little less scary.

Oz The Great and Powerful has an amazing mix of great actors, real sets extended by CGI, fantastic costumes, and the heart of a Wizard. Oz The Great and Powerful flies into theaters March 8th.

Sitting Down With Michelle Williams: Glinda in Oz The Great and Powerful #DisneyOZEvent

February 21, 2013 by Momstart 1 Comment

Sitting down with Michelle Williams after watching her play Glinda in Oz The Great and Powerful was like a dream come true. I mean, Michelle Williams is about the same age as me, she’s an excellent actress, and she’s a mother too. She’s the career woman that I wish to be like. When we sat down with Michelle we were told not to ask her any personal questions, but I really was interested in how she juggles being a famous actress and being a mother. She was so modest in her answer saying basically that it’s impossible to do both well, so you have to focus on one at a time. It’s about quality of time and not quantity of time.

michelle-williams-interview

Here’s what she said:

I was afraid you might ask something like that. How does anybody do it. It’s an Olympian undertaking. What have I figured out? When you really arrive at something that’s true and honest, it’s taken you so long to get there, and you had to work so hard for it. Nobody really prepares you for it, and nobody really tells you the truth, which is that it’s not possible. It’s not possible to do both things well at the same time, especially not if you are exacting, and maybe a Virgo, and really critical. Every mother that I know asks a lot of themselves. What I’m trying to wrap my head around is to get comfortable with the moments, to get comfortable with the fact that it’s going to feel like a scale, and there’s never going to be a perfect balance, and it’s always going be a give and take.

As a working mother myself, I really appreciate her honesty and how she is so critical of herself. As mothers we all feel that way and we always feel like we’re not giving enough time to something. I like what she goes on to say.

Something’s always going to feel like it’s suffering, like it’s underserved. And that’s really hard on your heart, to feel like you’re not being the best parent that you could be, or you’re not being the best at your job that you could be. That’s what I’m really trying to get peaceful with the fact that I’m always going to feel like that and that is the equation for as long as I choose to or have to stay in this position where I work and where I parent. It’s so hard. It’s really overwhelming.

Then she goes on to say that she has figured out how to cut out a few things like hand washing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. They all just go in dirty. It made me laugh to picture Michelle Williams in her kitchen washing dishes, I mean, we don’t picture actors and actresses doing normal things. Because playing Glinda in Oz The Great and Powerful is not a normal thing. It’s a normal girl’s fairy tale dream but few get to live it out. And Michelle Williams did such a good job playing Glinda, I even told her that. As I told her that I also asked her how she prepared for the role because it was spot on.

I thought a lot about her. I’ve watched the movie The Wizard of OZ passively for years, and watched it with my daughter and I thought a lot about her. Sam said something really interesting to me in the beginning. He said there’s a reason that Glinda, the Good Witch doesn’t go down the Yellow Brick Road, she’s not on the journey, because she’s one dimensional. She doesn’t have anything to learn. She’s like the least relatable character. I though that’s a good point. We want people to feel like they’re on a journey with Glinda, too. She isn’t this sort of crystalized version who knew it all along and we want her to have struggle. We want her to be human. But what does she have to struggle with because she doesn’t have a split nature. She’s not struggling with herself, how can she still be good, and innocent, and believe the best in people, but still have a struggle?

And obviously, she’s struggling for the freedom of these people, and she’s struggling, with her own self doubt. I thought a lot about transformation. She’s not somebody who’s had a perfectly easy ride. She lost her father. She’s in charge of these refugees, but she doesn’t really know how to protect them. I can’t say that those are things that I’ve, weighed in my life. And so I thought a lot about transformation and how Glinda transforms these dark and dire situations and how she transforms tears into bubbles. She makes the best out of a rotten situation because of a way that she chooses to look at it. That takes a lot of energy and it’s not entirely human. It is a super-human quality, although I have seen it on Sam, our director. By the way, one wife, five kids. One wife and five kids. It’s amazing. He’s such a cool guy. He had that attitude, you know. It’s like a really tough job to make a movie that’s this big. Can you imagine all those personalities, a hundred and fifty people, all their personalities, all their jobs, all their questions, and Sam is the funnel for all of it. And he maintained this exuberant buoyancy, and this belief in the possibility, and he was interested in what everybody had to say.

And as a mom I love the final part of her answer because I would have been thinking the same thing.

I was inspired…-I think a lot about my daughter….I just think a lot about my daughter, I thought a lot about Sam as Glinda the Good Witch. And I thought about Joan of Ark and heroes.

AND I LOVED that we got to take a picture with her.

Michelle Williams did an amazing job as Glinda in Oz The Great and Powerful. She was spot on as someone with complicated thoughts all internally planned as if she knew how it would end all along, simple yet complicated and very beautiful.

The World Premiere of Oz The Great and Powerful #DisneyOZEvent

February 14, 2013 by Momstart 1 Comment

Last night was the magical world premiere of Oz The Great and Powerful and the red carpet was the yellow brick road and it was completely hopping last night with stars, fans and us THE MOMMY BLOGGERS. We are a powerful bunch and I have to say this is one of my favorite groups to hang out with. And last night was one of my favorite carpets to walk as I felt star studded, and I haven’t felt star studded since my first red carpet with Elton John.

It was amazing just driving towards the El Capitan last night. I suddenly noticed that it was getting brighter outside and I looked up and I could see the Hot air balloon and all the spotlights. My heart started pumping as I was getting very excited to see what was coming next. And hopeful that I would see James Franco. IMG_3601

Look at that hot air balloon. I was amazed, I really wanted to get into it and fly off to Oz myself. Then we had our photo taken on the Oscar stairs.

We walked behind Michelle Williams and other stars from the movie. I had a hard time identifying all of them since all I could see was their backs. It was just an amazing experience. Check out the rest of these photos of the Oz The Great and Powerful World Premier.

Here is a photo of me on the carpet. Of course my sister’s prediction was right, I ended up looking more like Glinda than anyone else from the movie.
