Organically Grown uses organic cotton in their clothing. Many people think that because cotton is a natural fabric that basically it’s already organic. Here is what defines organic cotton.
Organic Cotton is grown and harvested using methods that leave a very low carbon footprint. Theses processes have a low impact on the environment and adhere to the strictest of standards. The mission of organic farmers is to maintain the health of the earth through building, replenishing and maintaining healthy soil. They do not use toxic chemicals, synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds.
Why is organic cotton better for the environment?
Traditional fiber production releases chemicals, dyes, and bleaches into
our air, soil, and water, polluting the fragile ecosystem of our planet. In
contrast, organic farms use all natural methods during their harvesting
process:
1. Seeds: Organic farmers use only untreated seeds, and no seeds
containing GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)
2. Soil & Water: Using crop rotation to build strong soil, organic farms
are able to retain more water without intensive irrigation.
3. Weeds & Pests: Farmers can keep weeds and pests away from their
crop in many different ways without resorting to harsh chemicals.
They maintain the natural balance between pests and their natural
predators using healthy soil, beneficial insects, and trap crops.
4. Harvest: Instead of defoliating using toxic chemicals, organic
farmers rely on the natural freeze to defoliate.Information provided by Organically Grown
