NCircle The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That Told From The Cold.

November 12, 2011 by Momstart 3 Comments

Everyone knows who Dr. Seuss is and his amazing character The Cat in the Hat. My kids even know who he is, and I was surprised at how many kids dressed up as The Cat in the Hat for Halloween. I saw at least three and I didn’t run into a lot of children that night. He’s just such a lovable and safe character for children to love. Which makes NCircle Entertainments, DVD’s of The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That such a great thing for us to share with our children.

The Wintry treat from NCircle, The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot about That Told from the cold is a great new adventure that kids can join the Cat in the Hat in his wintry fun.

NCircle Entertainment Halloween DVD Review Kooky Spooky Halloween & Tricks and Treats

October 16, 2011 by Momstart 4 Comments

By Reviewer Emily:

When October rolls around, I get my TIVO ready to search out all sorts of Halloween programs on television. There are plenty that I can watch after the kids go to bed: Horror movies, creepy ghost documentaries, Halloween themed cooking and decorating shows, etc. However, there isn’t much for my 2 and 5 year old to choose from. At these ages, many of the kid shows are still too scary or they are just a bunch of garbage. When I was given the opportunity to review NCircle Entertainment’s PBS Halloween DVD Line, I was thrilled since my kids and I both love PBS programming. The two DVDs, Kooky Spooky Halloween and Tricks and 100709_Kooky_SpookyTreats, feature two of our favorite PBS Kids’ shows, WordWorld and The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That.

In Kooky Spooky Halloween, the WordFriends get their share of scares the night before Halloween, when Pig sleep walks and everyone thinks he’s a ghost. Then, Sheep is making herself a super special fairy costume to wear for the big Halloween Party. But what will she do when her WordFriends need pieces of her costume for their own use?

Tricks and Treats features The Cat (voice by Martin Short) and his friends Nick, Sally, Fish and the Things. Meet the eeriest critters you have ever seen, arrived just in time for this Halloween! There’ll be lots of tricks and, of course lots of treats, to share with the animal friends you will meet! 100416_tricks_and_treatsThere’s a coconut crab, spider monkeys and bats, and plenty more fun with The Cat in the Hat!

Each DVD is 30 minutes long and are not only fun for getting into the Halloween spirit, but pretty educational as well. The Emmy award-winning WordWorld, uses rhyming, phonetics and spelling in each episode as well as colorful motion graphics to keep both kids and parents entertained. The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That series is just plain fun with the use of classic Dr. Seuss rhyming and silliness. The animation looks like it jumped right from the pages of the well-known books. Both Kooky Spooky Halloween and Tricks and Treats are big hits in our home and two DVDs I don’t mind watching over and over (and over and over) again!

Kooky Spooky Halloween and Tricks and Treats can be found at your local retailer or online, including www.NcircleEntertainment.com. They typically retail for about $6.99 each (but I recently visited NCircle Entertainment’s website and both DVD’s were on sale for $5.99 each). Be sure to also visit NCircle Entertainment on Facebook for a chance to win in their DVD Giveaway.

Disclosure – A product was provided to me free of charge by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the writing of this review; however, opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

Her daughter Caitlyn attends Montessori school and she hates housecleaning, loves wine and enjoys dining out. She would love to find a cure for the depression and anxiety she has dealt with on and off over the past 10 years, just like me. She is an amazing mom and friend.

How Cool is That?

So thank you goes to NCircle for sending me a copy of a really fun DVD of the Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About that, because he does know a lot about rhyming and getting into and out of CITH_bean logo trouble.

The Answer to Kids Sunscreen Protests, Weather Kid Sid

May 15, 2010 by Momstart 5 Comments

Cover Image - Sid the Science Kid: Weather Kid Sid

Yesterday I wrote a review about one of my favorite programs to watch with my kids, Dinosaur Train, today, I’m writing about my husband’s favorite show, Sid the Science Kid. NCircle Entertainment and PBS sent me a copy of Sid the Science Kid Weather Kid Sid to review with my family. I’m quite excited to have a new copy of Sid the Science kids because my husband is so fond of watching it with the kids.

Sid the Science Kid is about Sid and his friends and the discoveries they make at school. They have science lessons every day, as they sing, play and interact with one another just like children do every day. The feel of the show is so natural, every day Sid gets up, struggles to get his breakfast eaten, goes off to school and plays with his friends. He occasionally has a play date after school with his best friend Gabriela. Gabriela is my daughter’s favorite character because of the pigtails, but she is also partial to May and her purple hair.

Weather Kid Sid has four episodes with the first episode introducing the rain. They learned all about how the rain helps things to grow, and that it doesn’t just rain to ruin play dates.  Another episode was about spending the day with his dad out in the sun. Sid was protesting the sun block, the same way mine did, but he learned all about why it was necessary to put on sun block.

image The Answer to Kids Sun Block Protests:

Zoe and Miles both absolutely detest having sunscreen put on them. Miles has to be held down, and Zoe was the same way until she watched Sid The Science Kid, Weather Kid. After watching the episode about sunscreen she will tolerate it.

At school, Sid and his friends discover that sunscreen is a great way to protect your skin from the sun. And they also learn about the amazing ways the sun helps the Earth.  Parents and their children can explore and learn more about sunscreen at the Sid the Science Kid official website at PBSKIDS.org/sid.

This was our conversation after she watched Sid the Science Kid.

Mommy, Sid doesn’t like sunblock

No he doesn’t does he sweetie?

No

But he wears it right?

Yeah

Can I put some on you now?

Yeah, I won’t scream like bubby.

Thank You Baby

She lets me put it on her now without complaint. I missed the actual episode, I watched the rain episode with them, but I missed whatever conversation she had with her dad and what she actually learned from Sid. Whatever went on, I’m very grateful to be down to only one protesting child instead of two. You know, when you’re out in public and your child is screaming, other parents stare at you and give you looks.

So if your having issues with your kids, maybe their favorite cartoon character knows a thing or two about putting on sun block. Even the Imagination Movers sing about sun block.

Mom Start Movie Night Giveaway 5 Titles

May 2, 2010 by Momstart 351 Comments

I have ended up with extra copies of a few movies and TV series that we greatly enjoy here as a family. I have three BBC America Titles, Hamlet, Merlin, and 30th Anniversary Spot. I also have two children’s DVD’s Care Bears in Share-a-Lot in Care-a-Lot from Lionsgate, and NoonBory & the Super7 from NCircle.

1000122822DVDFLT Hamlet:

Enjoy the greatest performance of Hamlet. With David Tennant playing Hamlet and Patrick Stewart as The King and Claudius, what isn’t there to love. When I found out they were having this play in London, I wanted to grab the next flight to see it performed live. I can’t tell you how happy I was to see it be transformed into DVD for all to see. Watching this version made me understand things that I have never been able to understand before. Even my husband felt that the pentameter was perfect for dialogue. We’ve watched it twice together.

Synopsis:

David Tennant and Patrick Stewart star in this critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s masterpiece from Britain’s renowned Royal Shakespeare Company.  No recent stage production in Britain has attracted the excitement and nearly unanimous critical praise as this Hamlet. Tennant’s interpretation was recognized as defining the role for a generation, and Stewart’s complex Claudius won the Olivier award, Britain’s highest stage honor. In this specially-shot screen version, filmed on location rather than in the theater, Tennant and Stewart reprise their roles. Dynamic, exciting and contemporary, it breathes new life into Shakespeare’s greatest play.

Merlin Season 1:

Another BBC America great TV series for those that love magic and mayhem because Arthur and Merlin are always in it. I’m really not sure how Merlin is going to keep his secret safe for any longer. He’s always using magic to save the day.

Merlin: The Complete First Season

Synopsis:.

As what Smallville did for Superman, Merlin is a new drama series that updates the story of the infamous sorcerer of Arthurian legend for a new audience. In a time before history began, the mythical city of Camelot was a fantastical realm and a dangerous world in which magic has been banned by the ruthless tyrant Uther Pendragon. When Merlin, a young man gifted with extraordinary magical powers, arrives in the kingdom, he discovers his destiny and that of the kingdom’s young leader in waiting, Arthur, are inextricably linked.

Where’s Spot:

My children love Spot and what he’s getting into. In fact, when we went to the library we had to check out some Where’s Spot library books. I love that Where’s Spot was on Playhouse Disney, more people have a subscription to Disney than BBC America, we don’t have either right now so when Warner Brothers sent us a copy to review we were all quite ecstatic.

The 30th anniversary DVD of Where’s Spot has six episodes and what Miles loves is that every episode has a special song. My son loves to sing and when he gets a song in his head it’s a beautiful thing.

Synopsis:

This April, the BBC celebrates the 30th anniversary of the ever-curious and always adorable puppy, Spot, with the DVD release – Where’s Spot? 30th Anniversary Edition. Based on the signature lift-the-flap children’s books by Eric Hill, the classic TV show – which aired on The Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney preschool block – follows the adorable children’s icon on everyday adventures as Spot and his friends play at the park, take their first nature walk and splash around in a rain puddle. Where’s Spot? 30th Anniversary Edition boasts six endearing episodes with Spot voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas (The Lion King, Home Improvement), and each episode is accompanied by its own special song. Additionally, the DVD contains three bonus episodes in which the beloved puppy voiced by actor Hayley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense, Pay it Forward), along with a reading of Where’s Spot by author Eric Hill and two interactive games.

Cover Image - Noonbory & the Super 7: They're Sense-ational!Noonbory & the Super7:

Watching Noonbory & The Super7 with my kids was at first very confusing, then I realized, I was just asleep. It’s not boring to the kids, they love it. So when I woke up I found that it’s teaching the kids about their senses. Touch, Smell, Taste, Sight and Hearing, each represent a different character and then you have Noonbory who seems to be their leader. Kids loved it.

Synopsis:

Word World My Fuzzy Valentine

January 22, 2010 by Momstart 3 Comments

Welcome to the place where words come alive. Word World! Word World has become one of my favorite shows because it encourages the recognition of words. I’m sure my daughter can see that with all that she catches on to.  I was first introduced to Word World when I was at another Moms house. her kids were watching it and it was after I had been working on letters with my daughter. She said ‘e’ and there was an e. I was so excited, she was only 2 years old and recognized the letter. Wow, the same story every time I watch a word world video.

How about a new one, my husband does not like Word World and I can’t for the life of me figure out why? I love watching Word World. It comes on PBS and is put out on DVD’s by NCircle Entertainment. My kids love watching Word World. It’s entertaining and teaches them words with letters and the turns them into pictures. It’s a very visual presentation. Lots of people are visual learners.

This Word World DVD comes with two different episodes.  Both are sure to get everyone in the mood for Valentine’s Day!

My Fuzzy Valentine:

When SHEEP decides she wants to make a special Valentine song for her pal BEAR, she runs into trouble finding the perfect rhyme and makes BEAR a Valentine song with real heart.

The Love Bug:

BUG wants to sign a Valentine for his favorite WordFriend, but he doesn’t know how to write his name. With lots of encouragement from FROG he learns that with a little practice, he can write his name.

My favorite out of the two was watching My Fuzzy Valentine. It was really cute watching sheep try to come up with just the right rhyme and we used this opportunity to start teaching Zoe how to rhyme.

NCircle was kind enough to send us a copy of  My Fuzzy Valentine dvd it retails for only 5.99 US$. (I think this is a great price for this educational show).  A Department of Education funded study has shown that WordWorld improves a child’s literacy skills.

Thanks to NCircle Entertainment we were sent My Fuzzy Valentine, one of the newer WordWorld releases…just in time for Valentines day!

You’re invited to a Puppy Party

December 29, 2009 by Momstart 4 Comments

puppyparty

Puppy Party:

NCircle put out a cute DVD that gathers all your puppy friends and allows your children to explore the puppies. It’s pretty cute and educational. The narrator is the same voice from Animal Atlas, he’s really good at talking to children. This time he is just talking as one of the dogs. The cute little Labrador puppy that is throwing the party. His name is Milo. Now we watched this as a family when memaw was here and she said it wasn’t stimulating enough. It’s not for adults people. It’s for kids. I mean it got my daughter started up on questions, and I think it would be a great educational tool.  Maybe if you home school your kids and want them to learn about a few different breeds. This DVD features over 25 breeds, facts about each breeds and hilarious puppy antics. You can purchase it directly from NCircle for 5.99 or at Amazon for 6.99.

Puppy Party is 70 minutes long.

100123 Off The Map

I loved the Super Mario Brothers show that was on in the 90’s. I watched it every week day during the summer time that I spent with my mom. Friday was my favorite day to watch because they always had a short from The Legend of Zelda. That was the ultimate thrill for me. Yes, I have come a long way from that. It takes a lot more to give me a thrill now days. Something more along the lines of House. 😉

This is another example of what has happened to me. I joined ncircle Entertainment and have items that I get to review every month. This month, I was away from the house because I’m in Texas. So my husband has told me what we received and this is one of them. Since I can’t watch it and tell you what it’s about I want to do a giveaway.

Word World Happy Birthday Word Friends

July 1, 2009 by MomStart 1 Comment

image Word World where words come alive. I was first introduced to Word World when I was at another Moms house. her kids were watching it and it was after I had been working on letters with my daughter. She said ‘e’ and there was an e. I was so excited.

The other mom said she loves Word World because it brings back memories of when she used to make pictures out of words. The only one I ever did was boy or girl. She had a larger imagination than I did and so did the creators of this show.

I love watching Word World too. It comes on PBS and is put out on DVD’s by NCircle Entertainment.

NCircle was kind enough to send us a preview DVD of Happy Birthday WordFriends. The animals are trying to throw Dog a surprise birthday party. They also want to ensure that he has a cake so they work it out to make Dog a special birthday. This DVD also includes two other stories. One is Pig’s present and the other story is Bit By Bit.

Animal Atlas Review

May 28, 2009 by MomStart 1 Comment

imageWatching DVD’s with my daughter has now become afternoon quite time. She has outgrown naps. I can’t complain though, because she sleeps from seven at night to seven in the morning. So we have a quite time while her brother takes a nap.

One afternoon we tried Animal Atlas. It was sent to us by ncircle Entertainment.  It was just like watching some episode about animals that would have been on Animal Planet. It was funny because when my husband came hone he had seen one in the Red Box outside of Albertsons. And almost checked it out.

I was on the phone talking to a friend of mine and she started dancing and saying “kangaroo” “kangaroo”. She wanted to hop around the rest of the afternoon like a Kangaroo. Learning and moving is A + in my book.

In our educational and informative television series we travel the globe to meet every kind of animal imaginable, from the familiar to the astounding. We learn about their lives, their history, and the adaptations that have allowed them to survive and thrive. But best of all, we meet them face to face, whether ape or giant lizard, shark or tiger, or any other amazing animal from the Americas, Africa, Asia, Antarctica, the oceans, and everywhere in between. Ah, wildlife! Ah, the tame and the domesticated!  Learning about animals is heartwarming, invigorating, and wildly entertaining all at the same time. Just spin the globe. Anywhere, everywhere animals live, you’ll find Animal Atlas.

My Opinion:

I found it interesting and thought the narrator was right on with energy and that it wasn’t boring. Each segment was short enough to keep a two year olds attention. She likes going to the zoo and learning about animals so I liked this DVD and we might get my husband to pick up one of the other ones in the set. I really do enjoy watching things with my children that help them learn. It also gives us some interesting conversation.
