Anthony Anderson and Charlie Grandy Talk About New Show From NBC Guys With Kids

September 6, 2012 by Momstart 6 Comments

By: Ashley

There are so many things that I love about Fall, and new TV shows definitely make the list. NBC has what looks to be a pretty good line up including some of my favorites returning (Smash, Parenthood, Community) and some new shows that look pretty interesting. Guys With Kids is on the new list for NBC, and is one I will have set to record!

In an interview last week, actor Anthony Anderson and executive producer Charlie Grandy talked about the upcoming premier of Guys With Kids, their own lives with kids, and everything else you can imagine. One of the big things that stood out to me, was that this is NOT another show where men just don’t know what to do with kids. Grandy says that from the very beginning, they wanted to go with confident dads. “That’s not to say that they can’t be befuddled, but I think it’s more on a general parenting level as opposed to the nuts and bolts of changing the diapers, making the bottles…” Definitely a nice reflection on the world we live in where dads are becoming more involved in their kids’ lives… some even staying at home.

Anthony Anderson, having spent several years in more dramatic roles, is making and happy (and from everything I can tell, hilarious) return to comedy. He claims that in Guys With Kids, the kids are the true stars. “…The magic happens with them, and we’re kind of handcuffed and forced to go where they lead us. And that’s where we have a lot of fun during these episodes.”

Anderson fits easily into the role of dad since he has a 16 year old daughter and a 12 year old son. He has no problem saying how amazing his wife is for staying at home to raise their family (definitely a reason to love him) and also says being a dad (both times) is the crowning achievement in his life.

Guys With Kids is set to premier on NBC Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 10:00. This is one new show I will definitely be checking out.

On the Set of Family Night, Tune In Tonight!

July 16, 2010 by Momstart 4 Comments

Tonight on NBC the second movie from Proctor & Gamble, and Walmart, The Jenson Project will be airing at 8/7 Central. Tune in with your entire family!

I spent a few days in June with Proctor & Gamble and Walmart in Portland Oregon on the set of the third Family night Movie, “A Walk in My Shoes”. I was joined by 5 other bloggers for actor interviews and project discussions. The importance of sitting down together as a family weighs heavily on parents minds, on set and off. During the interviews the  actors expressed how they were all very excited to be working on this project. Working on a family oriented movie that their families could be proud of was very important to them.

We watched the process of filming a scene, and how the producer watches it from behind. They film it with cameras in different locations and then move the cameras and film it again. Then they repeat this about 20 times to make sure they got the shot and then the magic happens.

They made this same kind of magic happen for me. During the day they followed us around with cameras all day. I was interviewed on camera and they pieced this together. Check me out!

Merlin Season 1 Review and Giveaway

April 21, 2010 by Momstart 175 Comments

1000115191DVDLEF My husband and I spent the last week watching Season 1 of Merlin. I’m a big fan of the King Arthur legend and even though Merlin, staggers in left field of the legends it is still quite an entertaining series. Merlin finds his way to Camelot, where Uthor Pendgraon is the reigning king. He has outlawed all use of magic and that is quite a complication for Merlin, the warlock. He finds it hard to become Prince Arthor’s friend but over time and through all the trials they both become great friends. Neither one is willing to admit it though, because how can a Prince and his servant become friends. That’s right, Merlin becomes Arthur’s servant as a reward for saving the Prince’s life.

What a pair these two are, also along for the journey is the lovely Lady Morgana who I’m sure is going to become evil and her servant Guenivere. Nothing is as it should be in this version of Arthur and Camelot, but if you have a heart for magic and knights, then you’re sure to love Merlin.

Merlin: The Complete First Season

Synopsis:.

As what Smallville did for Superman, Merlin is a new drama series that updates the story of the infamous sorcerer of Arthurian legend for a new audience. In a time before history began, the mythical city of Camelot was a fantastical realm and a dangerous world in which magic has been banned by the ruthless tyrant Uther Pendragon. When Merlin, a young man gifted with extraordinary magical powers, arrives in the kingdom, he discovers his destiny and that of the kingdom’s young leader in waiting, Arthur, are inextricably linked.

New Series on NBC: Parenthood Premiers 3/2

February 28, 2010 by Momstart 9 Comments

When I first heard about Parenthood, my husband was telling me of a re-cast for the show and it hadn’t even started. Maura Tierney was supposed to be in the show, NBC postponed the show for her Breast Cancer Treatments, but then she resigned and they reluctantly re-cast her. I believe the recast went to Lauren Graham; the role as Sarah. I like both actresses, I think I like Maura more because she was on ER. You know, even my grandmother is looking forward to this show. She likes Lauren more because of Gilmore Girls. Never would have picked my grandmother as a Gilmore Girls fan.

The song, Forever Young, used in the movie in a few different places is a tear jerker. It’s not my favorite version of it but it still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it. Wishing to stay in that perfect moment forever, I ask my kids to stop growing up.

NBC sent me a screener of Parenthood and it’s defiantly a show I could get into. After spending a long two weeks with my family, I find myself wishing I was in the Braverman family. Man, the grandparents are the most understanding people I have seen. They let their now single daughter, with uncontrolled children move into the house. They have meals together completely civilized. Now, maybe all this easy going stuff is just for the trailer right? Or is that what America needs, maybe we are finally going to be getting a show that goes back to love. There will be drama, current relevant family drama, but the rest is going to be how a family unit comes together and fights their problems as one. I’m sure this is going to be a show that will have me in tears often. I was crying just watching the premier.

I think NBC is trying to reach out to all the audiences out there with a single mom of two teenagers getting into trouble and the good son with a child diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, grandfather who favors tough love but falters when his kids needs him, a woman so excited about becoming a mother that she purchased sperm, and an unprepared man who has suddenly become a father.

Here is a Sneak Peek:

New Tonight on TNT Southland Extended Commercial-Free Premiere

January 12, 2010 by Momstart 8 Comments

Southland

So after a little research I found the Southland was originally on NBC, it was cancelled before it was fully enjoyed. It’s not for the weak of heart, it’s HBO, Showtime quality in my opinion. It’s a very serious cop show. It’s not softened, it’s just in your face the life of a cop.

I’ve only watched the pilot so far and that’s what coming on TNT, as they breath new life into the series by starting at the beginning. So if you’ve never seen it before here is your chance to watch it from the beginning. With the plan for all new episodes to begin in March.

This is not a show for children, I was viewing it yesterday during nap time and as soon as nap time was over my daughter wanted to see what I was watching. The Pilot begins with Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie, The OC) who is a rookie that is partnered up with an really hard guy a veteran veteran John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz, Band of Brothers). Their relationship is rocky at best, with Ben wanting to take a punch at his new partner before the end of his first day out. Luckily though another cop calms him down. I’m sure that would be a terrible way to start out a career as being a cop.

Not sure if this is a show I’ll be adding to my list as I don’t have the stomach for cop shows. I do have an admiration for the show’s ability to present a pilot that was believable and understandable. I feel that many pilots are so confusing because there are so many elements to present to a new audience. I’m usually left confused and wondering if watching a few more episodes are worth the trouble.

Southland has characters that come across as real and believable. They all have some kind of dark closet filled with their own problems that the audience can relate to. In the mood for some real drama, tune in at 10:00 PM on TNT tonight for the Extended with never before scenes of Southland.
