3M Filtrete wants Moms Stress Free When Thinking of Home Keeping

May 20, 2010 by Momstart 2 Comments

At our old house the only filter we used for our heater was 3M’s brand Filtrete. They have the most options for filter types, our favorite being the allergen filter. That’s what I called it anyway, they have good, better and best; and we were using best because it captures at least 90We had two large hairy dogs and the hair was everywhere, so it helped quite a bit to be using an allergen filter.  The only reason we aren’t still using t% of the large airborne particles. The only reason m is because the heater in our new house uses a 2” filter and we can’t find a 2” in their brand. 3M’s brand Filtrete wants moms to have time to worry about other things, and not how clean the house is.

When it comes to the routine of cleaning, homeowners tend to be more concerned with stacks of dirty dishes (66 percent), piles of laundry (58 percent) and dust balls on their carpet (57 percent), according to a survey commissioned by 3M, maker of Filtrete air cleaning filters. But they often forget about other areas of the home – such as bedding, shower doors and even stuffed animals – that can be breeding grounds for bacteria, mildew, dust mites and foul odors.

To keep your mind at ease, they have teamed up with Healthy Housekeeper Laura Dellutri, author of The Overworked Mom’s Stress Free Home Keeping to offers these tips:

Start at the Top: Ceiling fans, tall mantles and bookshelves, and the tops of door frames tend to subscribe to the “out of sight, out of mind” motto. These areas often harbor dust, so it’s important to wipe them down regularly to help remove dust buildup. Start at the top and work your way down, collecting all of the dust and dirt that falls to the floor while you’re cleaning.

Wipe Down Windows and Walls: Don’t clean windows the old fashioned way – newspaper can cause ink residue and paper towels leave lint behind. Your best bet is to use microfiber cleaning cloths and a professional window squeegee to get a streak-free, spotless shine. To prevent streaks on shower doors and walls, apply lemon oil to the door twice a month. This will help repel soap scum and shampoo, while also adding a nice shine.

Think Horizontally: Dust mites are nearly everywhere. In fact, the American Lung Association estimates that roughly four out of five homes in the United States have detectable levels of dust mite allergen in at least one bed. Reduce dust mites by encasing your mattress and pillows, and wash your bedding in hot water about once a week. Also, since dust mites are microscopic, place strips of duct tape on the mattress case to prevent the dust mites from sneaking through.

Clean the In-between: While cleaning what you can see, don’t forget to clean what you can’t see – the air you breathe. Use a high performance air filter in the home, such as the Filtrete 1” Ultimate Allergen Reduction filter from 3M, to help capture particles such as pollen, smoke, dust mite debris and pet dander from the air that passes through the filter. Be sure to change your filter at the start of every season, or every three months.

Freeze the Fur: Stuffed animals can harbor dust mites so it’s important to pay special attention to them. Place stuffed animals in a large plastic bag and freeze them for four to five hours. Remove them from the freezer and plastic bag, and use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove any leftover dust particles.

Finish With Floors: To keep floors in tip-top shape, vacuum and clean them weekly. You can easily make your own floor cleaner by adding a few drops of mild liquid dish detergent to a gallon of water. Hot water can break down floor finishes after time so use water that is barely warm. Finally, don’t forget to clean the floor under large pieces of furniture, which may require you to temporarily move them elsewhere. Corners of rooms and the back of closets often are overlooked, so be sure to clean these areas as well.

Thanks for Saving me Time Frigidaire

April 30, 2010 by Momstart 3 Comments

After three months of using my new refrigerator I am finally a believer. Tonight it dawned on me that because of the wonderful ease in organization this fridge did save me time. I do not have to re-organize the freezer every time I come home from Costco.

image

As a mom, I’m sure you need no help picturing the following story, but here is ours.

My children are in the best mood in the morning after they have breakfast, after we have played and had snacks. Of course mom has been in the background doing the dishes the laundry and taking care of everything waiting for Costco to open so we can get the groceries.

image

Finally, the time has come and we are off to the store of bulk, we just had a snack, but still, all the food looks good and mom forgot to eat breakfast in all the hustle of the morning chores. We come home with much more than we intended on purchasing. I’m actually worried it won’t all fit. In my old refrigerator, we had to use a second freezer for Costco visits, and the deep freezer did not move into the new house with us.

Arriving at home, I realize that it’s lunch time. The kids are grumpy and ready to eat, they directly go to the table and sit in their seats. I have to throw lunch, together feed them, and put all the groceries away. Putting groceries away, keeping the fridge organized, and finding the groceries is a breeze. With shelves and drawers that are easy to raise, lower and see through, I’m saving all kinds of time and the kids have time sneak in an make sure their toys are cold too. Refrigerator_Interior

Some of my favorite features:

· PureAir Ultra™ Filters: eliminate odors better than baking soda and keep your refrigerator interior cleaner and fresher. An indicator light signals when the charcoal filter can be easily replaced.
· Automatic Alerts: Refrigerator alerts you if the door is left open or if temperature rises.
· Thanks to the Energy Saver Plus Technology, if my refrigerator door is not opened for 24 hours and the refrigerator system is set to the 12-hour defrost cycle, then the system automatically goes to a 96-hour compressor run time defrost cycle to conserve electricity.
· Most usable shelf space as compared to other counter depth side by side models and ability to store full week’s-worth of groceries for a family of 5 inside.
· Comfortably store cold weather comfort foods and with PowerPlus™ Freeze: Quickly freeze whatever you store to keep foods at their freshest.
· SpaceWise Organization system, which includes extra bins, food-storage containers, rack extenders, etc., makes it easy to keep food organized and easy to find when you need it.
· Real stainless steel with a protective coating that reduces fingerprints and smudges so it’s easy to clean.
· SpillSafe Shelves: Designed to keep spills contained, making clean up a breeze.

Neosporin Lip Health 3-Day Challenge Blog Tour

January 28, 2010 by Momstart 6 Comments

I have awful lips all winter long. The air is so dry and cold that it makes my lips dry. So I bite them. I pull the skin off with my teeth until my lips bleed. It’s awful. I have one brand that I trust and have always used until now. I always try other brands, but they usually let me down. When Mom Central offered me the chance to try a brand new product (at least brand new to me), I said yes please. Let the girl from the Pacific Northwest try out the lip saving lip balm.

There are two products that I’m testing out. One of them is Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy and the other is  Neosporin Lip Health Daily Hydration Therapy

The Claims:

To help repair and protect lips from the harsh cold-weather elements, Neosporin introduces Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy and Neosporin Lip Health Daily Hydration Therapy. Clinically shown to restore visibly healthier lips in just 3 days, these formulas help lips become more hydrated, smoother, and appear back to their normal tone.

The Results:

Neosporin® Lip Health™ overnight renewal therapyI’ve been working on my own three day challenge. When I started using the daily hydration therapy my lips were at the point where I was biting them and they were bleeding. Within two days, my lips were better. I could still bite off all the dead skin but there was no blood. I actually haven’t even tried the overnight renewal therapy yet. I’ve been so pleased with the daily hydration therapy. I’m sure if I would concentrate and use it for three days in a row then my lips would be not be peeling still, but I’m so happy with what has been healed in just two days every couple of days.

Try it:

They are offering a coupon for you to save on your first purchase.

Kellogg’s Fruit Loops with Fiber Pass the Kid Test

November 17, 2009 by Momstart 10 Comments

Statistics show that an average of 9 out of 10 kids lack enough fiber in their diets? Which explains why every where you look food says “now with fiber”.  I had no idea it was that high, probably means I’m not getting enough fiber too. Kellogg’s knows how tough of a time we have finding ways to increase our child’s intake of anything healthy, and they came up with a great solution by adding a boost of fiber to some of their most popular kids’ cereals.

Yes, Kellogg’s did send me cereal to try, but we did purchase some just a week before the review was sent to us. I bought a huge box that we are still working on and we are enjoying them. My husband eats them for breakfast on Saturdays with the kids. We feel that eating meals together as a family is very important.

There are no changed other than the addition of Fiber. I check calories, sugar, vitamins, the cereal is still fortified with all of the nutrition you are looking for when caring for your family. They just added fiber and that is needed for healthy digestion.

I do want to say that my husband enjoys them. Which is funny because I was expecting  him to say these are disgusting and taste like cardboard. Because that is exactly what he thinks of Kellogg’s Fiber Pop Tarts. Kellogg’s you need to work on your pop tarts recipe with fiber.

For more information:
  • Please visit www.kelloggsnutrition.com or www.Kelloggs.com/Fiber so you can find out more information about these tasty and classic cereals.

The Visual MD Infant Nutrition Video Help for Moms

October 24, 2009 by Momstart 2 Comments

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Mead Johnson. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

visual md

The Visual MD Infant Nutrition website is quite a website. It’s not for the faint of heart because it is high definition video of projects involving infants and infant care. I was completely shocked at what I found at their site. Let me start by telling you why I signed up for this blog tour with Mom Central.

I signed up when I found out that Mead Johnson the makers of Enfamil were making a website about Infant Nutrition. I wanted to learn more and help support them because my son survived on their special formula Nutramigen. They were also very helpful in helping me find ways to pay for my formula. They sent coupons, rebate checks and even sent me forms to submit to my insurance because it was a medical need that he had.

I expected to find just another run of the mill business website that is a support center. I mean, you know all businesses are making on-line forums and “community” sites where you can log on and find information about products and facts that pertain to those products.

Site Description:

Developed as a resource for Moms, the website brings together information from leading health centers and researchers across the country to explain how nutrition is crucial to infant development. How can you make sure that your newborn gets the nutrients she needs to ensure healthy growth through her first birthday? How do you keep her stomach from getting upset? What should you, as an expectant Mom, eat to ensure that you stay healthy as your infant grows? What vitamins do you need if you’re breastfeeding to ensure that you’re passing along the right nutrients to your infant?

Showcasing new data and 3-D images, the site lets you explore and learn the latest research findings through video, pictures, and graphics, in depth questions like why infant eyesight depends on getting enough DHA and what key nutrients contribute to the healthy growth of your child’s brain.

This Infant Nutrition site is put together by doctors from every field, from all over. They unveiled this site on Monday with a live webcast. to see the video you can click here. From finding information about birth, nutrition, breast feeding, you can find a video and information from medical experts to answer you questions. The quality is excellent, it’s organized, and the video is amazing.

Jennifer Garner is the new face of Frigidaire

September 24, 2009 by Momstart 3 Comments

Pledge Now

Jennifer Garner is my favorite actress hands down. I love her. She was in Alias and was amazing. Even when she became pregnant she was still amazing. She always seems like she is a down to earth mom and I feel so connected to her. Ok, not in a sick way, I guess I mean more that I can relate to her. So having her be the face of a brand of appliances that I know and love just seems fitting. If you’re a company that feels that having a movie star will sell more appliances for you.

This afternoon Jennifer will introduce Frigidaire’s new line of appliances, designed with features that help us Moms save time in our busy schedules, and challenge us to pledge a bit of our own time to help children in need. Frigidaire’s new “Make Time for CHANGE” campaign supports Save the Children’s U.S. Programs, dedicated to making a difference in children’s lives.

My Mother LoadFrigidaire and Garner are asking Moms to think ahead to November 1st – which happens to be daylight savings – and pledge to use that time to help make a difference in the lives of children. Save the Children created the CHANGE program (Creating Healthy, Active, and Nurturing Growing-up Environments) to promote healthier lifestyles for children living in poverty by providing nutritious snacks and regular opportunities for them to be physically active. Charity is big to me, I love helping others as you can see on my website. Which I have taken a break from and I need to be punished. 😉

2 Chances to win a Double Oven

wall oven

1)

Starting today, everyone who goes to Frigidaire.com and raises her hand with a pledge to make time for a child, will commit Frigidaire to donate $1 to support the CHANGE. As an added bonus, everyone who pledges her time will be entered for a chance to win a new Frigidaire Professional double wall oven.

2)

Mom Central is giving a Frigidaire Professional double wall oven

To enter to win, simply go to  and tell us about your pledge and how you would give back your time to children in need. Mom Central will pick one lucky winner in a random drawing from all entries received!

"Make Time for CHANGE" – How I would make a change:

Well, for one I think change starts at home. I would make sure that my kids were healthy and well cared for. I would make sure that we get plenty of exercise as a family. Then I would encourage other’s to exercise in my community and make sure that we continue to provide food for our local food bank.

Brain Fuel for parents and their kids

September 9, 2009 by Momstart 1 Comment

I love brain teasers. I loved going them in school and I loved doing them at home. I was such a nerd. Doing this tour; I received a 30 day subscription to Lumonsity.com so that I could participate in some brain games.

My brain is so rusty. So I was playing some word games and man I’m rusty. I need to do some reading a little less writing. Wouldn’t you like to give your kids a fun way to get that brain back from summer vacation? My score for the first game was only 180. EEEK. it was bad.

Giving your kids an extra edge may prove easier than you think thanks to a new web-based program called BrainFuel. BrainFuel is designed to maximize our children’s learning potential.

bfood_breakfast_hugsBrainFuel4Kids.com aims to help take your child’s learning to the next level. Research suggests key changes in diet, exercise, and sleep can enhance cognitive abilities, and BrainFuel thus offers sections like "Brain Food," "Healthy Brain," and "Brain Games," aimed at engaging kids and Moms alike. Moms you can learn things like knowing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and . Breakfast helps you wake up. They even have recipes you can try.

There are four tabs at the top of the page of Brain Fuel, brain food, brain health, brain games and brain form. Each tab will take you to a new place to help either you or you child. Such as:

• Explanations for our kids in answer to their complaints, "Why vitamins?!": "The brain is the greediest organ in your body – greedier than the spleen or stomach, even greedier than the heart" and other "why?!" questions.

• Challenging games for kids from Lumosity.com, designed to promote quicker thinking, better concentration, and improved memory.

• Recipes that give your kids the right balances of carbs and protein, and help understanding those complicated nutritional labels.

The games from Lumonsity are fun and range in complexity. It’s a great way to get going again.

Electrolux Text a thon for Ovarian Cancer

September 9, 2009 by Momstart 1 Comment

My aunt has been struggling with stage four cancer for 3 years now and she’s still fighting strong. So, with September marking the start of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Electrolux and Kelly Ripa will once again lend their support to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) to help find a cure. Finding a cure for one type of cancer will help other types. I hope!!!

Ovarian Cancer affects thousands of women each year, and we need your help to raise awareness about this disease. Starting today, you can participate in a unique "Text-a-Thon for a Cause" campaign to fund research and promote early detection of Ovarian cancer. We can make a difference. You can also enter for a chance to win a luxury frontload washer and dryer from Electrolux in Turquoise Sky, the color of ovarian cancer awareness. There is also a set being given away on MomCentral.com!

THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL! The Washer and Dryer that is.

As part of their contribution, Electrolux will donate $200 to OCRF for every Turquoise Sky washer and dryer pair purchased. I learned about this program at Sears. They had signs up advertising it.

Kelly Ripa designed limited edition T-shirts which you can purchase online at www.kelly-confidential.com. Electrolux will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts to the cause.  Here is a quick message from Kelly.

Holiday Inn wants you to consider a “State-Cation”

September 7, 2009 by Momstart 1 Comment

Holiday Inn Hotels & ResortsHoliday Inn has locations everywhere. There’s one just down the street from us, that street being the highway but still it’s under 5 minutes away. They would like it if you take another look at your own state for a vacation idea with Holiday Inn. Think of it as a "state-cation" instead of a "staycation".

You can find countless opportunities for adventure, education and rejuvenation reside within the borders of your own home state. You can save hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars with a creative "state-cation". You don’t have to drive very far plus, everyone can get involved in the planning. Whether you’re looking to visit a historical landmark or spend a long weekend at the beach or mountains; or even stay a night in the big city you’ll find Holiday Inn there.

When you stay with Holiday Inn, you’ll experience the changes transforming its hotels world wide including signature bedding with "soft" and "firm" pillows and power showers in the bathroom, just to name a few, all with a more contemporary look and feel.

MtStHelens With summer winding down, September provides a great opportunity to explore your home state with family and friends before busy fall schedules take over. Of if in your case it’s already begun then take a quick break before everyone gets into that routine. Holiday Inn boasts more than 2,500 locations in the US, offering a fun and easy getaway in every state. Being from Washington, I’d love to visit Mt. St. Helen’s. I’d also love to go to the mountains. We have lived here for seven years now and never spent the night in the mountains. I’d love to stay at Mount Rainier or just over the pass on I-90. Close enough to home for convenience and affordability, but far enough to experience a getaway, the Holiday Inn "state-cation" becomes a great opportunity to rediscover your home state and still enjoy a vacation. There is so much to do and explore.
