New Year, New You: A Brighter Smile in 2014

January 24, 2014 by Beeb 7 Comments

Listerine Ultraclean

Products provided for review.

The beginning of a new year usually marks a fresh start and the beginning of resolutions for health and life habits. I know I’ve been working on taking better care of myself this year! I was recently offered the chance to try a line of dental care products, which fit perfectly with my desire to take better care of my teeth and their appearance. I received three items to kick-start my dental routine:

REMBRANDT INTENSE STAIN Stain Dissolving Strips – this is one of the most unique and convenient whitening systems I’ve seen. These are thin strips that you place over your front teeth which dissolve in 5-10 minutes – they’re a little like those minty breath freshening strips. You can go about your business as normal while wearing them – no gagging, no drooling, and nothing to remove. I love these things! You’re supposed to put on a set of strips twice a day – you can space this out, or do both treatments back-to-back; whatever works best for you. I had some tooth sensitivity the very first time I tried them, but no problems since.

To compliment the whitening strips, I also received a tube of REMBRANDT INTENSE STAIN Toothpaste. I’ve used REMBRANDT whitening toothpaste before and liked it, and I appreciate that they have one for intense stains now, because after 30 years of living life, drinking coffee, wine, etc. etc., my teeth have gotten some stains for sure! This is a nice toothpaste – I’ve been using it at least twice a day.

Finally, I received a bottle of LISTERINE ULTRACLEAN to round out my new routine. This stuff burned my mouth like crazy the first time I used it, but you get used to it over time and I like the thoroughly clean feeling it gives me.

So I’ve been using all of these products for 7 days – the Stain Dissolving Strips are billed as showing results within 3 days with full results in 2 weeks. Do my teeth look whiter? I really think so. Nothing is going to give me Hollywood pearly whites short of a professional treatment, but any improvement is a good thing. I did take comparison photos, but I must say that it is incredibly difficult to photograph your own teeth – and who wants to see a close-up of my crooked teeth anyway?! šŸ˜‰ I’m pleased and I would definitely continue using all of these products, including the Stain Dissolving Strips, because it’s the easiest tooth whitening system I’ve used yet!

Beyond that, all of these products made my teeth feel a lot cleaner, which is more important than how they look superficially. These have helped cut down on nasty plaque, which will also have the knock-on effect of making my teeth appear less dingy, too! This is an easy routine to maintain and it feels great.

How do you keep your smile bright?

Yes I’m working with Ormco and they are providing me with new braces which means I have to make sure I take care of my teeth. Maybe you don’t have braces like I do but taking care of your mouth, teeth and gums is still very important.

Did you know your mouth contains more germs than there are number of people on earth?

That’s right – and believe it or not, even if you brush twice a day, you’re likely missing millions of them!  In fact, brushing alone misses 75% of your mouth, which is why it’s critical to floss regularly and rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash twice a day, like LISTERINEĀ® that that penetrates all over for that whole mouth clean!

Currently, more than 75% of American adults suffer from some form of periodontal (gum) disease and may not even know it. It’s time for everyone to make a change. Listerine is here to help you take the first step towards a healthier mouth in 2013.

We Improved During The LISTERINE Sweet Smart Challenge #SweetSmart

November 2, 2012 by Momstart 6 Comments

The challenge was to make sure we were practicing good dental hygiene habits and I think we already were. I’m probably the worse one in the family when it comes to brushing in the morning but if I make myself do it the same time the kids do then we all have brushed teeth. Just to make sure you remember the challenge Listerine gave us here it is again:

To help encourage kids to adopt healthy oral care behaviors, the makers of LISTERINEĀ® SMART RINSEĀ® are asking you and your family to re-evaluate your oral care habits and learn why taking a few extra minutes a day for a complete oral care routine that includes brushing, flossing and rinsing is so important. To complete the challenge, you and your family just need to brush, floss and rinse every day, twice a day for three weeks.

WHY?

Oral disease has become the number one chronic childhood illness in the U.S. – and just in time to help combat the Halloween sugar rush, the makers of LISTERINEĀ® SMART RINSEĀ® are teaming up with non-profit organization, National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, known as America’s ToothFairyĀ®, for the third year to teach kids how to be Sweet Smart when it comes to protecting their teeth each day.

And here is our process in the morning:

We Brush

for 2 minutes

We rinse

IMG_6781

for 30 seconds

IMG_6783

My kids have a few issues using the bottle of Listerine mouth rinse, because of the size or something. So we measure it and then we pour it into a cup and then they can put it in their mouth without swallowing it or choking on it. Might be we just need more practice but this also doesn’t spread germs on the bottle. They love using the LISTERINE SMART RINSE and so do we as parents. When they spit they can see what they got out of their mouth that was gross and sometimes we can even see on their teeth colored spots that they missed. It’s helping us let them be independent and confident brushers, while also letting us know that they are indeed getting their teeth clean. And like I said, my habits have changed too. I’m back to the way I used to be where I brush in the morning and at night and also before I leave the house. And at night we do all our flossing as well as the same steps Zoe illustrated above.

Follow The Listerine Smart Rinse Smart Oral Care Challenge #SweetSmart

October 8, 2012 by Momstart 8 Comments

Have I ever told you that my least favorite time of the day is the bed time routine. I go nuts every single day trying to make sure that the kids do a good job brushing their teeth and when it comes to me brushing their teeth it squirm here squirm there and a wiggle there and a blah. I’m pulling my hair out. Not only that but if I told you the truth I don’t brush my teeth twice a day every day, which also means that sometimes I forget to make sure the kids brushed their teeth that morning too. I’ve been better about it recently but now is the time to nip it in the bud.

I’ve accepted the challenge!

This is my plan. I’m going to approach this with a fun and happy attitude. I’m also going to show my kids how to brush their teeth. I’m an ambassador for the Damon System and I’ll be sharing more about that with you guys over the course of the following months. They sent me a set of teeth and I can’t wait to use the teeth to make sure my kids are flossing and brushing correctly, or at least that they have the concept down.

I’m also going to use the chart that Listerine sent me, oh that and all the new products. It was time to switch out my kid’s toothbrushes in the downstairs bathroom. It’s probably time to change mine down there too. It helps us to remember to brush in the morning before school if we all do it at the same time and two if we have it downstairs. Keeps me from being lazy. My goal is to make sure we are doing it twice a day, flossing and rinsing.

Listerine Healthy Habits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge

March 19, 2012 by Momstart 15 Comments

By Orshi:

While I wear out toothbrushes on monthly bases, mouthwash and I don’t know each other on first name bases. I am sorry but putting that burning-stinging terrible liquid in my mouth is just not something I do on regular bases. Our family has great oral health and I am one of the lucky mommies who do not have to struggle with my children for brushing teeth. Still, it was an excellent thing for us to join Listerine’s Healthy Habits for Lifetime Oral Healthy Challenge as we learned a lot and started some excellent habits (believe it or not … even me with the mouthwash). image

I recall the first time ever I went to the dentist as a child and she pulled out one of those huge rows of teeth to demonstrate proper brushing methods. I want my children to remember this time: when they got their first bottles of mouthwash and learned the importance and techniques of proper brushing, flossing and rinsing. I truly hope that we have just had our oral care boot camp in the last two weeks by using Listerine and Reach products and these habits will follow them though their lives.

Look at all these goodies – opening the box that held all of our oral care tools was like going to the candy store. Each of my three children received one bottle of Listerine Smartrinse with matching toothbrushes that feature Barbie, Batman, and Phineas and Ferb. They also got a Reach Total Car Dental Floss to share. For mommy, they sent Listerine Total Care Zero Mouthwash (which I will just rave about ā€˜till the cows come home) and Listerine Antiseptic – yupp, that’s the bottle that is keeping my old one company under my sink now). Additionally, I received Reach Total Care Multi-Action Toothbrush and a Reach Total Care + Whitening Toothbrush. I pretty much think that this Whitening toothbrush is the best thing since sliced bread. I usually don’t fall for commercials and ads that tell you they can change your life, but you have to try this one. It has Calcium Carbonate MICRAWHTIENING bristles that just make my teeth squeaky clean (something that I used to get by sprinkling baking soda on top of my toothpaste before brushing – no need any more). And as for the Listerine Total Care Zero mouthwash …. I am sold again. It is less intensity than Antiseptic mouthwash as it has no alcohol, but protects teeth against cavities, restores enamel, strengthens teeth, kills germs and cleans to whole mouth. With this product, I am proud to say that I rinse every day. What an excellent habit to go along with my great flossing and brushing skills.

imageMy children learn so fast, mostly by example. A Lifetime Of Smiles suggest different methods by ages on how to engage children it healthy oral care habits. Having a 3 year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 5-year-old, the best ways to get them brush teeth are still to do it along with them and to make it fun. Toothbrushes and mouth rinses with their favorite characters get them next to the sink in no time and they truly enjoy the privilege of having their own bottles of rinses. They are amazing little germ busters as they love to see the ā€˜bugs’ land in the sink and they can dose themselves with the squeeze and pour attachment that is build in each bottle. I did not think that my children were ready for mouthwash at all in their age, but they are actually ready to even do it without my help. Having their own bottles of mouthwash taught them independence and responsibility and they think they have the shiniest teeth in town.

Most of us don’t realize that brushing along misses 75% of our mouth and unfortunately 50% of children between ages 5 and 9 have a cavity or a filling. It is not surprise therefore that brushing needs to be teamed up with flossing and rinsing every day. Beyond that, don’t ignore the reminder card from your dentist: along with daily oral care, semiannual visits to the dentist will allow you to maintain good oral health . As brushing misses 75% of our mouth, rinsing will have to take care of the germs that are left behind. With the new Listerine Total Care Zero rinse even I adopted this habit and I can’t imagine how I could live without it before. Listerine Whitening Vibrant White Review & Giveaway

April 4, 2011 by Momstart 131 Comments

This week Listerine gave me the chance to review their Listerine Whitening Vibrant White Rinse. I am a pretty big fan of regular old Listerine, so I was excited to try out their whitening product. I guess the worst part of trying out a whitening rinse was realizing and admitting how white my teeth aren’t. Once I swallowed that pill, I cracked the seal and tried it out.

When I think of reviewing mouthwash, I think of 3 important questions: Does it taste bad? Is it safe? How am I supposed to use it? Does it work?

clip_image002Does it taste bad? Absolutely not. This Listerine does not have the strong powerful taste of traditional Listerine. You won’t find yourself battling a burning sensation in your mouth waiting for those 30 seconds to be up. Listerine has done a great job creating a mild minty flavor that leaves your mouth feeling clean and fresh. The Vibrant White version that I used was labeled ā€œclean mintā€ which was exactly how I thought it tasted!

Is it safe? Yes! The whitening ingredient used in the mouthwash is the same enamel –safe whitening ingredient used by dentists. As with any mouthwash, you should not ingest it, especially more than the amount used for rinsing… but yuck! Who would want to do that?

How am I supposed to use it? Well, I am used to my good old Listerine antiseptic rinse after I do my brushing and flossing. The Listerine Whitening is a little different. You rinse with ½ a fluid ounce for 60 seconds straight PRIOR to brushing. After you spit out the mouthwash, you brush your teeth regularly. You are supposed to do this once in the morning and once at night.

Does it work? I only used Listerine Whitening for 7 days. According to the label, you may see noticeable whitening after 6 weeks and full results are expected after 12 weeks. With that said, I have noticed that my teeth feel cleaner and I have convinced myself that they look whiter!

If you’re looking for a whitening product that is more effective than your average whitening toothpaste, Listerine Whitening is an easy addition to your daily dental routine. According to the label, this rinse has 4 times more whitening power as compared to the leading toothpaste. Listerine actually has an entire line up of whitening products.Ā  You can even sign up and receive a coupon to try out one of their products for yourself! I just took a big trip out to restock on our usual toiletries and hygiene products (coupons in hand of course) and Listerine Whitening Mouthwash is now a regular on the list.
