Lion King Diamond Edition & Andreas Deja Drawing Scar

October 1, 2011 by Momstart 295 Comments

The Kids LOVED Lion King Blu-ray. There is something about an animal movie that is able to move all walks of life. I love it, my dad loves it, my husband likes it, the kids like it. Everyone will watch Lion King, it’s a masterpiece. The perfect pairing of animation with some of Elton John’s music made MAGIC. The song Can you Feel The Love is my favorite in the movie, that and Hakuna Matata and all of it. I love the Lion King sound track. As Miles would say, “It’s AMAZING”.

LionKingBlurayComboArtMiles thought it was even cooler that Darth Vader is the voice of Mufasa. Yes I told you before we are THAT family that watches Star Wars so often that my son can recognize the voice of Darth Vader. And if Darth Vader wasn’t reason enough to watch Lion King on Blu-ray in your own home then maybe all of the extras and bonus materials are.

Also worth mentioning:

  • The Lion King is the top-performing home entertainment release ever. The Blu-ray™ debut marks the first time it has been available in any form since 2004.
  • The Lion King has won 2 Academy Awards®, 3 Golden Globes®, 6 Tony Awards® and 3 Grammys®, among other accolades, including over 70 major theatrical honors worldwide.
  • The Lion King opened on Broadway in 1997 and in January 2011 became its seventh longest-running show ever; it continues to be one of the highest-grossing on a weekly basis

I had the opportunity to sit down with the artist of Scar, Andreas Deja, and took a little video of him drawing some sketches of Scar.

The Lion King Collectables and watch #LionKing3D in Theaters September 16

September 15, 2011 by Momstart 27 Comments

You won’t want to miss the re-release of The Lion King now in 3D at your local movie theater. This limited 2 week engagement, which starts September 16leads up to the re-release of The Lion King from the Disney vault into DVD on October 4.

clip_image002

I’ve told you how much I LOVED the re-release of The Lion King 3D here on MomStart in my posts about meeting the people involved in The Lion King and how The Lion King became 3D. I can’t encourage you enough to go see it on the big screen with your children. Parent’s, you’ll fall in love with it all over again, I promise; your children will simply fall in love with the magic of The Lion King in only the ways a theater can. There is just something about a movie in the theaters, right?

clip_image004Well, the next best thing to seeing The Lion King 3D in the theater is taking the movie home. Until you can take purchase your own 3D or BluRay on October 4, think about these little magical movie treats from the Disney Store:

Green your routine with a young Simba and young Nala shopping tote for only $2.50. If you’re at the Disney Store load it with your other favorite Lion King must haves, then reuse it over and over again for grocery shopping, wrapping a birthday present, storing your child’s toys, a quick grab-and-go playground bag

clip_image006
Get your 3-inch collectable Vinylmation Lion King tradeables for only $9.95. You’ll fall in love with these Mickey Mouse shaped figures. You don’t know what you have until you’ve made the purchase, so complete your set by trading your duplicated. I wonder who the mystery character is; my guess is either Ed or Mufasa. clip_image008My 4YO has the Rafiki; he loves it, though the staff is removable and he tends to misplace it.

Find your child’s favorite Lion King characters for them to snuggle with at night. You can choose from different price ranges, from $8.50 to $59.50. My 2YO loves to snuggle his young Simba “mini bean bag” plush, which is $8.50, however you can purchase two for $15 OR you can get the mini plush series of young Simba, young Nala, hula Timon, and luau-pig Pumbaa for only $30!

clip_image010Bring home the Best of the Lion King on CD for only $9.00 and it’s eligible for FREE super saver shipping if you aren’t subscribed to Amazon Prime. Best of the Lion King includes your favorite songs from The Lion King, The Lion King 1½, The Lion King 2 Simba’s Pride, Rhythm of the Pride Lands, and The Lion King on Broadway. I like having this new CD in our library for some new kid-tunes! Best of all, with Amazon, you can go green and purchase the MP3 of each song for only 99₵ which is $11.88 for the whole CD!

Get out and see The Lion King 3D in a movie theater near you. Check local listings! Then head to the Disney Store or online and get your own movie swag!

Don’t forget to follow The Lion King on their official Facebook page. You can also get in with Disney on Twitter @DisneyAnimation, @DisneyPictures, and chat with others about the release of The Lion King in 3D on Twitter using the hashtag #LionKing3D.

Rekindle the Disney Magic Lion King 3D #LionKing3D

August 31, 2011 by Momstart 20 Comments

Do you know how to rekindle the magic? Disney does! I have fallen in love with Lion King all over again with The Lion King 3D coming to theaters for a limited two week engagement starting September 16. I was on the edge of my seat watching in wonderment as my favorite characters came to life again, after 17 years in the Disney vault.

We own The Lion King on DVD but there is something so nostalgic, loved and magical about the theater. This release of The Lion King 3D had me with goose bumps, sighing, gasping, and yes, crying in all the right places. As if this was my first time ever seeing Simba’s coming of age story, as a lion cub framed for the murder of his father.

It is amazing the megapixel technology the Walt Disney Animation Studio used to make The Lion King’s best loved and hated characters pop off the screen. Robert Neuman is the Stereoscopic Supervisor who determined the mark-ups from the original Lion King to create The Lion King 3D.

clip_image002

If you’re like me, you want to know how they did it. The truth is I don’t fully understand it, but the simplest explanation is there are three components to a hand drawn cartoon — the background, the scenery, and the characters. To create a 3D version the Stereo Artists shifted each component’s view separately to the right or left before joining the film together again making what was 2D into 3D Cinematography; that’s what the pluses and minuses you see above on the mark-up of Scar are all about. They do all of this while maintaining maximum viewing comfort and preserving the quality of the original film.

Here is the team you have to applaud for the new look of The Lion King:

clip_image004

You simply have to see The Lion King 3D in the theaters (maybe even more than once). Your children will ask and you’ll want to anyway, I promise! But there is a LIMITED TWO WEEK time frame to catch The Lion King 3D in the theaters starting September 16; check your local listings for availability.

However, when The Lion King 3D out of the theaters you’re not completely out of luck. Disney is letting you take home this vaulted classic on October 4, 2011 with a 4-disc Diamond Edition DVD combo pack – 3D, BluRay, DVD, and digital copy – rumor has it there is a 5th disc included with bonus features too. You can preorder from Amazon for only $30 with delivery on the day of release with two-day shipping. To view The Lion King in 3D in your own home you must have a 3D player, 3D television, and 3D glasses for all viewers; to view the BluRay version you must own a BluRay player.

Enjoy both releases because as you know The Lion King will return to the Disney vault again before you know it.

Behind the Disney Magic of Lion King 3D: The Stars of the Show #LionKing3D

August 28, 2011 by Momstart 24 Comments

Summer went behind the Scenes of the Re-Release to theaters on September 16th  for Lion King 3D. Lion King 3D will also be available on Blu-ray 3D & Blu-ray Hi-Def on October 4th. But you won’t want to miss it in theaters as it was quite magical. Summer had a great time at the Green Grass Premiere of Lion King 3D, and these are the talents and who she met.

Stars aren’t really the MomStart forte, but Disney wanted to hook some mom bloggers up and help us introduce Lion King 3D to our readers. A personal note: if a celebrity is out and about we realize this is their private time; however, on trips such as this Disney’s Lion King 3D promotional event, the contributors sign up to endorse the film and so here is who Mom Start was in contact with for the release and promotion of the film Lion King 3D:

Niketa Calame

Don Hahn

Mark Henn

Tony Bancroft

Moira Kelly

Not related to Lion King, but at the premiere with their families were dad, Rick Shroder, and mom Melissa Joan Hart. Other guests included Disney Kids who I’m not familiar with as my young sons still only watch cartoons on Disney Junior, but other bloggers were saying they saw Bridgit Mendler, Bradley Steven Perry, Joey King, Jake Short and Stefanie Scott; I’m sure there were others but like I said my kids just aren’t there yet, so neither am I.

More to come soon Lion King fans! For now you can follow Lion King on their official Facebook page. You can get in with Disney on Twitter @DisneyAnimation, @DisneyPictures, and chat with others about the release on Twitter using #LionKing3D.

A special thank you to Disney and Click Communications for this opportunity! All transportation and hotel provided.
