Subscription Box: Brickloot A Monthly Brick Building Box @Brickloot

April 18, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

We received a sample Brickloot to include in our subscription box round up we have coming up in a few weeks. And we LOVE it. It’s such a cute idea for anyone that loves brick building like we do. And of course even during our Brickloot unboxing video the kids had to start building.

image

This is the kind of gift that would be perfect for my son, or any brick loving kid. My kid loves to build and I feel like I’m stepping on bricks all the time because that’s how much he loves them. He is always playing with his brick collection, aka his LEGOs.

image

Steve, Erin and Parker Krex, a family of entrepreneurs. Parker, a 9-year-old toy lover, is the creator behind Brick Loot and with the help of his parents he has been able to make his toy dream come true.

image

Brick Loot is a new box subscription company geared towards brick and Lego fans. This fun box that can be delivered monthly to customers of all ages and is filled to the brim with the latest and greatest brick compatible products. Each month, the contents of the box are a total surprise to subscribers. The contents will include unique items that cannot be purchased at your average toy store around the corner. Brick Loot’s partners are among some of the biggest names in the toy industry such as: OYO Sports, Nano Blocks and Brick Forge. The box subscription starts as low as $23.00 a month and varies depending on your subscription selection.

We highly recommend this box as a great gift for kids age 7-14 or to 99. I mean my husband might actually like a subscription box like this one.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League Giveaway

February 19, 2015 by Momstart 47 Comments

A week ago my kids and I went to the screening of LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League Giveaway. They loved it and now pretend to be characters from the land of Bizarro.

image

In the Bizarro World Pack, Bizarro clones the Justice League and creates his own Bizarro League to help save his planet Htrae from the evil Darkseid. Join Batzarro, the world’s worst detective, angry Bizarra, and the scared Lantern GreenZarro, and more!

The movie starts with Superman being quite embarrassed by his counter part Bizarro so he takes him to a new land and tries to build him a city to take care of. Well even though Bizarro was lonely he made the best of it, only needing help once his citizens were being attacked. Thus the reason to create the Bizarro League. It’s a cute film for DC fans and LEGO fans which my son is both.

After the movie we were able to listen to the cast chat about making the film and how much fun they all have working together. At first the kids were really worried they were going to be bored but then they thought the actors were pretty funny.

You can gain access to all of the great content in the LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham DLC Season Pass for $14.99. The DLC Season Pass allows players to access six add-on content packs: Bizarro World, Man of Steel, Dark Knight, Batman 75th, Arrow and soon-to-be released, The Squad Pack! You can also purchase each Season Pass pack separately for $2.99 each.

Now you can enter to win a LEGO set from the DC LEGO world.

Enter to win:

Seattle Seahawks and Mariners OYO Sports Figures They Look & Feel Like LEGOS

November 11, 2014 by Momstart 2 Comments

This is a partnered post and all opinions are our own

OYO Sports has created sports figures that are buildable, playable and they look just like LEGO figures. I’m probably not allowed to say it but I am because it’s true. (I’m sure I’m supposed to say comparable to the leading building-block brand, but we all know who they are so I’m just going to say it like I did) We received the following sets and this is what my kids did with it:

  • Seattle Mariners Robinson Cano Limited Edition Minifigure
  • Seattle Mariners Kendrys Morales Limited Edition Minifigure
  • Seattle Mariners Starter Practice Field Set
  • Seattle Seahawks Kam Chancellor Limited Edition Minifigure
  • Seattle Seahawks Marshawn Lynch Limited Edition Minifigure

image

My kids took the sets and started building, they quickly found that their “leading brand building sets” fit together perfectly. image

Each character had to be put together and since we received a mix of Football players and Baseball players my kids turned the Seattle Seahawks into Baseball players and the Seattle Mariners into Football players. It was really cute and they played with them for hours. They had the guys running around the bases and I think they even made up their own game.

image

OYO Sportstoys make these figures and playsets for Football Hockey and Baseball. We’re huge baseball and football fans and were super excited when these showed up. The kids had to open them up

The Story of OYO Sportstoys!

image

It all started at the ballpark. Shortly after building an elaborate starship from a popular building-block brand, a father took his son to Fenway Park to take in a Red Sox game. Taking in the sights and sounds of the park, a true New England rite of passage, the duo would begin exploring the confines of the park in search of toys. As their searches went without results, an idea was born: Creating mini-figures of athletes that kids could play baseball with.

Developing figures with rotating forearms, bending knees, and complete with the equipment of a true ballplayer — a ball, bat, and glove — the dynamics of the project were born. After many late nights of extensive patent work and distribution strategies, OYO obtained licenses with Major League Baseball and the MLB Player’s Association as its first professional sport.

image

But an OYO goes beyond a figure capable of poses previously impossible for building-block minifigures. The OYO packaging was intricately designed to be able to fit in a kid’s pocket while looking like both a toy and 3-D baseball card. Following many colors, concepts, and logos, the final OYO package was complete and the rest is history in the making!

They really did a great job and I can see us collecting more of them because we like having the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks minifigures to play with.

LEGOS: Cool Creations in 35 Pieces By Sean Kenny Children’s Book

September 6, 2013 by Momstart 1 Comment

This book makes me think….With Little Blocks comes Great Creativity….

clip_image002

Ok, yeah I’m pretty random sometimes when I’m reviewing products, yes we received this book as a sample and it came on a day that Miles didn’t have school and his sister did. He kept asking me if he could play a video game but he’s not allowed to change the discs because he doesn’t take care of the discs. So I had to change the disk and I was in the middle of editing a video for my blog. This book was delivered and suddenly he didn’t care about the video game, he cared about finding the LEGOS to make a ROBOT.IMG_7985

There are always LEGOS in the floor of my living room, on the fire place and in the kitchen. The kids LOVE LEGOS and when I say kids that include the big kid my husband. Ah, I love them too but they paly with them the most. What I love about this book is how easy it is to use and how it inspires great things. Building with LEGO® pieces can inspire children and adults alike to construct wonderfully imaginative and grand creations – towering castles, massive aircrafts, and intricate cities. But LEGO models don’t have to be complicated to be fun and exciting. In Cool Creations in 35 Pieces, best-selling author and artist Sean Kenney taps deep into his imagination with an exercise that will challenge readers of all ages. He creates dozens of figures—from menacing robots with names like Blurg and Scraps, to transforming trucks, to creatures that live in the rainforest—out of LEGOs, but uses no more than 35 pieces in each construct.

Cool Creations in 35 Pieces is Sean’s sixth book that showcases his LEGO art work. His intricate-yet-simple designs will inspire millions of LEGO fans to unleash their own imaginations. He provides starting points, and also includes a step-by-step instruction guide on how he created his pieces.

Falling in love with LEGOs as a boy, Sean left a lucrative Lehman Brothers career to pursue his dream as an artist. He now owns nearly 2 million LEGO bricks and has erected works that weigh as much as 400 pounds. For Cool Creations in 35 Pieces, however, he wanted to show what’s possible with only a few blocks. Just imagine the worlds you can create in only 35 pieces!

LEGO “Make a Duck” kit: FIRST- An Educational Nonprofit @firstlegoleague

June 19, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

I’m really impressed with our are and all of the low cost camps that are available to my children and our community. Through the YMCA and our city of Bothell we have quite a few camps including LEGO camp. These camps would help prepare you for a program I want to draw your attention to; FIRST.

image

More than 300,000 students around the globe participate in FIRST-  an educational nonprofit that uses fast-paced robotics tournaments to get kids pumped about engineering and science! FIRST offers four programs; each one gets more complex as students work together to design and build custom robots and solve challenges.  Watch this short informational video on FIRST LEGO League and FIRST as a whole.

You’ll also find a program called Jr. FIRST LEGO League. Students in this program work in teams to design and construct a model using LEGO bricks and moving parts. I received a starter kit from First. While the BuildToExpress kit I received is an optional component of the program, it’s a great “extra” which nicely ties in the core concepts that students will learn as part of the Jr.FLL experience:

· Team building

· Independent brainstorming

· Sharing ideas

· Listening to ideas

· Reflection

· Presentation

The BuildToExpress process builds upon skills that are developed throughout the Jr.FLL program:

· Students are presented with a Challenge;

· students will build and think; and

· students will share and listen.

My son wants to be a LEGO master when he grows up so this activity kit is perfect to get him started on challenges. What we do is we sit at the table and he has 10 minutes to come up with something. When he gets a little faster we’ll move to this real challenge.

This Challenge allows Jr.FLL team members to get to know a little bit more about each other, and to improve their skills with using the bricks and models for sharing.

· Build: Think of a time where you were doing something with your friends or family – how did you feel during this activity? Build a model that you can use to tell your teammates about this experience and how it made you feel.

· Building time: 5 minutes.

· Share: Share your model with your team. Explain what the elements in your model mean.

Other challenges:

BuildToExpress Challenge 2: This is a basic, warm-up building Challenge.

· Build: How was your mood when you got up this morning? Build a model that shows your mood when you got up this morning.

· Building time: 3 minutes.

· Share: Share your model with a partner. Explain what the elements in your model mean.

BuildToExpress Challenge 3: In this Challenge, participants are asked to think about the current Jr.FLL Challenge. The 2012/2013 Jr.FLL Challenge is called Super SeniorsSM, and asks students how we can improve the quality of life for seniors.

· Build: Think about the Jr.FLL challenge. In your mind, what is most interesting about the challenge? Build a model that shows what about the challenge you find most interesting.

· Building time: 3 minutes.

· Share: Share you model with your team. Explain what the elements in your model mean.

BuildToExpress Challenge 4: This is a basic, warm-up building Challenge.

· Build: Imagine that you and your team are a team of scientists working on a top secret project. Now, choose 10-15 minutes of your bricks and build something you think you and your top secret scientist team would need in your top secret work.

· Building time: 3 minutes.

· Share: Share the story of your model with your team.

We’ve always found LEGOS to be a very creative way for our kids to exercise spacial awareness and imaginative play because once they build it then they have characters and tell stories all about it.
