Celebrate Heroes With Krispy Kreme 4/28 @KrispyKreme : We Chose Kokanee Teachers

April 15, 2013 by Momstart 4 Comments

April 28 is National Superhero Day, but Krispy Kreme wants to use it as an occasion to reward everyday heroes, so they’re doing a Hero Appreciation Day Buy One Dozen, Get a Second Dozen FREE to give to your everyday hero(s).

WP_20130411_002

As part of the promotion we were allowed to pick up doughnuts for any heroes we chose and well, I really feel that teachers are not appreciated like they should be so we chose to take doughnuts to Kokanee, my daughter’s school. We picked up 5 dozen doughnuts for the school and my daughter was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited that she was able to participate.

IMG_4987

She proudly took in those doughnuts and they put her name by them so all the teachers knew she brought them. Think about who you would honor and go into Krispy Kreme and buy a dozen and get a dozen free and give one of those boxes of doughnuts away. I would love to know who you would give one too. IMG_4988

I purchased, I take that back, I tried to purchase one more dozen to take to my church but Krispy Kreme wouldn’t let me pay for them. They are so good to us at MomStart. Both the kids had a blast being there and looking at everything.

Thanks to Krispy Kreme for providing us with doughnuts.

Krispy Kreme Coffee Doughnut Pairing Suggestions

February 4, 2012 by Momstart 40 Comments

I love doughnuts, I love them almost as much as I love pizza, especially when the doughnuts are hot and fresh. In fact, the fresh ones I eat and eat and eat without realizing how many I’ve eaten. I’ve recently found that I’m not alone when it comes to having such a rampant sweet tooth. Coffee on the other hand I have not always been a big fan of. My husband turned me into the coffee addict that I am and when it comes to coffee, I still prefer coffee with my cream and sugar mixture. My sweet tooth is un-satisfy-able at times.

IMG_7538

So when Krispy Kreme asked us to try the coffee straight up with the doughnuts I was skeptical and apprehensive. Even though they were giving me such wonderful doughnuts all I could think of was I have to have my sugar. I never thought the doughnut would actually provide the sweetness itself.

IMG_7574

House Blend pairs with the blueberry cake doughnut

Dark Roast pairs with the Raspberry filled doughnut. The coffee really did enhance the flavor of the doughnut.

House Decaf pairs with the original doughnut. It’s strange but the house blend and the house blend decaf taste different and it’s meant to be that way. Of course, I drink coffee for the caffeine kick not for the taste, but I do prefer to drink coffee that I enjoy. Did you know that we add sugar to bad coffee, so if you start out with good coffee you don’t need sugar or in my case you don’t need as much.

IMG_7579

My favorite coffee is the Krispy Kreme Dark Roast coffee blend out of the three we tasted. I liked the dark flavors and enjoyed it just a tiny bit black, which for me says a lot about the coffee. Now I’m off to the store to find myself some more Krispy Kreme coffee grinds to use in my Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter. They only sent me home with the House Blend.

Creating Drinks and Doughnut Variations at Krispy Kreme

January 24, 2012 by Momstart 15 Comments

I love trying new things and had to try everything while I was visiting Krispy Kreme and taking only one bite of each was difficult.

IMG_7596Part of our visit included making our own doughnuts. We were given the doughnut shells and we had to use those plane doughnuts to make our own. We were given glaze, chocolate, drizzle and a wide assortment of toppings but not every toping possible. Krispy Kreme has pretty much any topping you can imagine to create their doughnut variations. They’ve used fruit, licensed products like Oreos, candy bars, and candy. Some products are used to create color and some are used to infuse flavor, because it’s a combination of color and flavor that makes us want those doughnut variations.

Now if you know me you won’t find this surprising, but we were supposed to create our own doughnuts within our group, decide who made the best one and then box up 12 of the same doughnut, I misunderstood the directions and thought we were supposed to make a dozen doughnuts of whatever we wanted, so I had fun getting creative. I created about 12 different doughnut topping variations.

IMG_7615OOPS! I’ll try to follow directions next time. Out of all the ones I created I decided that my signature doughnut was an original doughnut with plane glaze, mocha powder and chocolate shavings on top. It was delicious. Another thing I didn’t realize was that we weren’t supposed to eat our creation. I took a bite so it couldn’t go in the box.

IMG_7612

After making doughnuts we had fun making drinks. Krispy Kreme makes cold and hot variations of fabulous drinks. Last year my favorite chiller was the Oreo chiller. My favorite drink of the day was a salted caramel chiller. It was really good, we also created a toasted marshmallow latte that left me wishing I could find a local coffee store that made toasted marshmallow lattes. YUM!

IMG_7621

Look out for these fabulous creations from Krispy Kreme this Valentine’s Day along with a buy a dozen doughnuts get a dozen free doughnuts coupon with their Valentine’s Day promotions!

Inside Krispy Kreme Winston-Salem North Carolina

January 23, 2012 by Momstart 9 Comments

Taking a tour through Krispy Kreme is not a lite matter, in fact it’s filling and quite sweet!

IMG_7569

This is a picture of the Krispy Kreme headquarters in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Inside there is the beginning of every Krispy Kreme doughnut. They create the beginning of the mix that is distributed world wide, so they have touched every doughnut in a way. The quality of every doughnut is of upmost importance to Krispy Kreme.

IMG_7555

The tour included a little history and that was the best part about Krispy Kreme to me was that it wasn’t just a boring history lesson it was a lesson filled with stories, personal connections with the brand. Like the photo above, this is how they used to cut their doughnuts. They would roll it out on a wood table, cut them with this and then after they were fresh and hot they would store them in a wood box.

IMG_7554

They didn’t know all the things about wood that we know now. Now every doughnut is made form a mix. that mix is created at the headquarters and distributed world wide. In each region of the world taste buds and regulations are different so the recipe is a little different for some of the doughnuts variations. However, the original doughnut is as close to the same as it can possibly be for each region.  They mentioned a green tea doughnut and I want to go to the country that sells that doughnut just to taste it. Krispy Kreme really understands their customers, it’s rooted into their company motto. Of course they care about how many doughnuts they sell but what’s even more important to them is enhancing the lives of others through joy.

Our tour included the store front model. Here they simulate how things are to be positioned and how they should look. Are the doughnuts easy to put together and how do the drinks come together. On day two we even went back there and created our own drinks. I’ll tell you more about that fun later.

IMG_7539

And it included ever so beautiful hair caps and lab coats. Pictured here is my friend Liz (A Nut in a Nutshell) and me.

image

We also saw the doughnut assembly line. They make all the variations of doughnuts on this machine, they run them in shifts. That’s actually something I didn’t realize. I thought every store made only the glaze doughnuts  Plus we had an original doughnut hot off the line. YUM!

IMG_7543

Krispy Kreme prides themselves on their high standards. They don’t accept flour unless it’s up to specifications and they monitor everything with state of the art technology.

IMG_7550

We also had the privilege of seeing the original Krispy Kreme recipe.

IMG_7545

Behind this safe

IMG_7548

Inside this envelope. Ok, that’s as far as he got. He said it was his first time to ever hold the envelope, but no one gets to look at the original Krispy Kreme recipe, it’s TOP SECRET.

Our Krispy Kreme Love Affair Landed Us A Trip To North Carolina #KKVIB2012

January 16, 2012 by Momstart 6 Comments

Last year Krispy Kreme started working with Miles and I. At first I had to think about how I wanted to work with them because I wanted to do something special. Miles wasn’t in school yet and Zoe was so I used this opportunity to have a mommy son date whenever they invited us out to try their new doughnut creations. We even created some fun videos.

image

Now on Tuesday as long as all flights aren’t canceled due to the snowpocolyps scheduled right before I fly out I’ll be on my way to  North Carolina. Krispy Kreme is bringing in bloggers for coffee and doughnuts. While there we’re going to be taking a tour of their facility. I’m pretty excited about getting some more video. I haven’t been taking as much video as I used to so look out readers, here comes new video footage.

In a way I feel like Miles should be coming too. I mean look at this kid his face says Krispy Kreme all over.

image

But we’re also doing coffee tasting and even though my kids LOVE coffee (it’s my husband’s fault I swear) coffee tasting should be left to the adults and I think it’s not safe for little ones to be taking the tour of their facilities.

After A Long Day, I Had To Sign For Make Up

January 11, 2012 by Momstart 9 Comments

Wow, today was quite a long day. I had a great day but I felt like all day I was putting out fires. I dropped my kids off from school and I worked the whole time Miles was in Preschool and it was all for the blog but I have nothing to show for it so I feel exhausted like I need to post something but I have no idea what to post.

image

So I figured I’d just share that I had a long day. I’m going on two trips next week, one with Krispy Kreme and the other with Kenmore Appliances, I love visiting Sears! I had to put out some travel arrangement fires. Easy but time consuming. I found out two of my contributors will be leaving me and I can’t tell you how helpful they’ve been around here. They have helped me keep MomStart going when I didn’t feel like anything in my life should be going. While I’m dealing with my inner emotions and craziness they’ve been pushing out posts for me. So I’m a bit sad.

I picked up the kids, picked up my husband, made my husband something to eat, he went back to work, we went outside to play, the kids didn’t get a nap and after dinner Ummm the crying started. Not my crying, my daughter’s. When she gets so tired she just breaks down and everything makes her cry. She was in the bathtub and she was crying. I had to leave the bathroom because her tears made me laugh. I’M NOT TIRED, oh yes you are. When I could go back in without laughing, I got her out and put her to bed. Her poor brother had to go to bed too even though he was amazingly in a good mood.

So here I find myself, thinking of the reviews I need to get done, which are actually pretty small. I need to finish all the Florida posts, put up some tasty recipes, and I think that’s it. Funny thing today, FedEx has been trying to deliver something to me for two days. I had to sign for it. My FedEx driver, yes I call her mine, she knows me, she is so kind she always comes back at the end of her day if I had to sign for one and today she saw me and the kids playing outside so she brought it right to me. I opened it and it was make up. Make Up, who requires a signature for make up. Plus the make up came in a box from staples. It was so weird.
