“Today’s kids are incredibly tech-savvy and regularly use technology at home, at school and on-the-go,” said Nanda Ramachandran, vice president of emerging business, Samsung Mobile.  “Studies* show that 70 percent of tablet owners share their tablets with their children.  The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids is engaging, encourages learning and fosters creativity in a safe environment that parents can easily manage.”

The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids features a bright, colorful display and an intuitive Kids mode that children can easily navigate.  The new 7-inch Wi-Fi tablet’s content-rich features create a dynamic, interactive and fun experience for kids while keeping them safe and secure.

“Samsung is committed to offering products that fit the needs of all consumers and the addition of the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids offers a safe introduction to mobile technology,” said Travis Merrill, vice president of tablet marketing, Samsung Electronics America.  “The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids provides a tablet experience that can grow and adapt with the whole family.”

The tablet is packed with free pre-loaded content and entertainment specifically for kids, including game applications. Protect the lightweight, portable tablet from bumps and bruises with the colorful, easy-to-hold case available in orange.

The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids comes with access to additional content and services through Galaxy Perks, including a $10 credit for the purchase of applications, books, movies and music in Google Play; free 12-months of Boingo Mobile Wi-Fi access; 3-Month Hulu Plus Membership for new users; two years of up to 50GB of DropBox storage; and more.  Learn more about Galaxy Perks at http://www.samsung.com/us/galaxyperks.

alternaVites Kids Multivitamins Review

April 6, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disclosure: We received samples and this is a post of her experience and her opinions, when it comes to your children be sure to ask your doctor and use your own judgment and do your own research.

By Dayna:

With two picky young eaters in my house, vitamins are a must!  I never know from one day to the next what they’ll eat and what they’ll refuse, so I have to make sure they get the nutrients their growing bodies need in a way that isn’t dependent on them choosing well.

imageThat’s why I was excited to find alternaVites Kids multivitamins!  I was shocked to discover that they contained twice the percentages of each vitamin as the one I was currently giving my kids.  Not only are they good for kids, but the quick-melting powder is fun for them to eat and, according to my daughter, “tastes like candy!”  My kids love to pour it right on their tongues out of the packet, but it could also be easily added to pudding, yogurt, a smoothie, or any other medium your kids would eat.  Even the pickiest eaters will like this vitamin, since it isn’t chalky or gummy like other kids’ chewable vitamins.

Kids will love the taste of the Strawberry Bubblegum and Raspberry Cotton Candy flavors, and moms will love that, unlike many kids’ multivitamins, they contain no artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, preservatives, or high fructose corn syrup.  Now I don’t have to worry so much about what my kids are, or aren’t eating, and that’s a big deal to me!

About Dayna:

Dayna is a children’s counselor turned stay-at-home mom after the birth of her first child three years ago.  She is married and has two beautiful daughters.  When kids permit, she and her husband love to travel, enjoy good food, and spend time with friends. And she is an amazing friend.

Take A Look At The Volvo Backseat Drivers: KIDS

February 13, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

In my car, my son is the backseat driver, I’ve been pretty relaxed about it too. He always knows when I’m going the wrong direction and when I’m using my GPS app on my phone, it beeps if I even go 1mph over the speed limit and if he hears that beep he reminds me not to speed. It doesn’t bother me, we usually have a good time talking about mommy’s driving. My husband though, he hates a backseat driver, even if it’s his four year old son. Kids can be so opinionated with no filter, you know? So when Volvo told me they let some kids be the backseat driver I had to share it.

Volvo prides themselves on creating cars that are truly designed around drivers AS WELL AS the passengers. So, they put their design team to the test and asked for reviews from a group of people who rarely have their opinions about vehicles heard…the kids in the backseat! They invited families in the Northeast to bring their children to a Volvo dealership and let their kids tell them what they think.

Stonz: The Original Versatile Bootie

By Christine

Stonz signature product is their innovative and award-winning Booties. Lisa Will, the founder of Stonz, knows busy moms don’t have time to mess around. The booties are a big help in the cool-weather months.  With a fleece-lined inner and coated nylon exterior there is no need to second-guess whether your kiddo’s toes are staying warm and dry. Additionally, they’ve got soft soles for a custom fit and toggles at both the calf and ankle to ensure they stay put.IMG_1468

Stonz Booties are reasonably priced at $39.99 USD and available in a wide range of colors and new designs including Monkeys, Cherries, Flames and Robots. I was lucky enough to receive a pair of Stonz Booties in Polka Dot Brown to try and review just before a family trip to Leavenworth.  IMG_1467

My 14 month-old doesn’t have winter boots, as she’s just getting steady on her feet.  The Stonz Booties fit right over her regular shoes and are easy to put on & off- another plus since getting her dressed feels a bit like a wrestling match.  Another great feature is that they fit up over the bottom of her jeans, in doing so made sure that her legs and calves are warm and dry.

IMG_1476IMG_1475

A few great features about Stonz Booties

· For Fall, Winter & Spring – Just layer up or down

· Water and wind-resistant coated nylon upper with fleece lining

· Wide opening and two adjustable toggles keep Booties on!

· Soft, skid-resistant soles recommended for developing feet

· Machine wash & dry, inside out on delicate.

· Canadian Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Approval.

I am looking forward to using the Stonz Booties into Spring and the Fall.  Because the design is so versatile I may be able to get another Winter season out of them just adding the Bootiez Linerz to eliminate the need to wear shoes inside.

Stonz Booties are a great multi-season wardrobe essential, especially for the Northwest.  They are functional and very stylish.

Traveling With Kids: Eating Abroad How To Feed Your Kids

February 1, 2013 by Momstart 1 Comment

Feeding Kids Abroad

Guest Post:

Travelling with children can be fun. There is no one more excited to explore new places than a child, and few things more pleasurable than watching one’s children jump into a pool, ride a plastic, inflatable crocodile, or play hide-and-seek with their new holiday friends.

But finding appropriate accommodation with all-inclusive, child-friendly food options in locations like Asia, the Caribbean etc. can be a bit of a worry. Some children are fussy eaters, and when they are faced with an array of unfamiliar foods on a journey abroad, parents should be prepared for a range of reactions: anything from delight (discovering deep fried calamari or exciting new ice cream flavors) to disgust, and even upset tummies. Here are a few useful tips:

HotelsF1L Ressy k dsc_7369

Child-friendly hotels – if available at your chosen destination – should be one of your first choices when travelling with children. totstoo.com is a site dedicated to searching for hotels with family orientated amenities, such as crèches, kids’ pools (where no one minds getting splashed!), and catering facilities, throughout Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean, Africa, and the Middle East.

A key tool in keeping your small travellers fed and happy is restaurants that offer a buffet. These are great for several reasons: buffets usually offer a wide range ‘international’ food options, which means that – wherever you hail from – your children should be able to select something that looks familiar to them. Moreover, buffet restaurants do not tend to have fixed seating arrangements for their guests, so kids can sit with new found friends at dinner – giving you a well-earned break!

Cruises

Cruises are in many ways the perfect option for family holidays. Child-centered, supervised activities and amenities like pools, crèches, and restaurants, can be paired with parent-pleasing day trips and relaxation. Asian and Caribbean cruise lines are especially attractive in this regard, as they offer a safe, yet mobile haven from worries about poor hygiene or suspect food.

Fail-safe & Emergency Foods

The very best of these is fruit! Hotel buffets usually include an array of different fruit, ranging from apples and bananas to cactus fruit, and restaurant staff – more often than not – allows parents to take pieces away for later. There’s nothing more useful than a saved buffet banana or (washed!) apple, produced later to satisfy those pre-lunch, pool-side cravings.

Travellers with very small or especially fussy children might also consider bringing food from home. Sites like so-baby.co.uk offer travel food packages. You might also think about bringing staples like porridge and pasta to provide lunch alternatives. For absolute emergencies (i.e. having run out of baby formula), tinytotsaway.com offers baby- and child-friendly food deliveries to hotels abroad.

Foods to Avoid

This is actually a lot less worrisome than you might expect: food poisoning caused by hotel or restaurant food is extremely rare, and most children are unlikely, anyway, to want to try the seafood or extremely spicy dishes that could – in large quantities – be difficult for their stomachs to digest.

Hand luggage essentials

The most important of these is also the most obvious: hand wipes. Whether you’re planning to eat crepes in town or an ice cream on the beach, making sure that your children’s hands are clean beforehand will eliminate many of the most common causes for upset stomachs. In terms of travel medicines, you may want to pack indigestion tablets (to alleviate acid reflux) and a small supply of child-appropriate painkillers. Bottles of water or juice and, of course, a packet of biscuits can also be handy, since children should be kept hydrated when out in the sun, and beach-based fun means they will probably work up quite an appetite too!

Fingerprint Fabulous & The Most Amazing Thumb Doodles Book #KlutzBooks

November 8, 2012 by Momstart 10 Comments

Again, like I mentioned last month I went overboard when it came to KlutzBooks and purchased more than they sent me to review. I purchased the Fingerprint Fabulous and The Most Amazing Thumb Doodles Book for Miles and Zoe. Why? Because I knew it would spark creativity in both of my kids. They started creating mermaids, robots and crazy stories and names for their creations. Then they started getting super duper silly with the giggles and had a great time for a few hours of creating.

Miles made awesome robots

IMG_6706

And vegetables.

IMG_6704

And Zoe made Mermaids

IMG_6693

And dogs, creative dogs
IMG_6694
And of course we had lots of very dirty fingers!

In this video Miles and Zoe show off their creations and why they like doing art projects and crafts.

We purchased these two books.

imageFingerprint Fabulous is a glamorous take on one of our favorite art forms: thumbprint drawing. We provide three ink pads — purple, green, and, of course, pink — plus a black felt-tip pen. And really that’s all you need to transform ordinary fingerprints into pretty kitties, poodle puppies, hairstyles, butterflies, a festive squad of cheerleaders, and more. Inside the book, along with our legendary instructions and inspiration, we include four tear-out greeting cards, glitter glue, and 100 tiny sequins.

Comes With: 3 ink pads (pink, purple, green), 1 black marker pen, glitter glue, sequins, tear-out greeting cards

imageThe Most Amazing Thumb Doodles Book

Create awesome artwork with your thumb as a paintbrush and ink pads as paint. For the finishing touch, add some personality with a few pen strokes. All these tools (except the fingers) come with the book in a convenient, reclosable, storage case. And when your thumbs need a rest, give your other digits a chance: play Finger Four Square or Tic Tac Toe — now with real toes!

Comes With: 4 ink pads ( blue, orange, green, purple), 1 black marker pen

Be sure to enter to win your own books. The prizing of the WRAP IT UP SWEEPSTAKES changes out every Monday featuring new themes touching on the wide variety of titles Klutz has to offer – Science, Games, Classic Crafts, Holidays and more! The weekly sweeps start every Monday and fans can enter through November 26.

I’m a Klutz Brand Ambassador and received books to review, test out and share my results and will also be compensated for my time. This doesn’t affect my opinion of the brand at all because I’ve loved using Klutz for years!!!

Know Where Things Are, and Keep Your Car Clean One Step Ahead Family Car Organizer

One Step Ahead Family Car Organizer – Know Where Things Are, and Keep Your Car Clean!

clip_image002By: Ashley

I know that the summer travel season has passed us by, but just because you’re not loading up the family car for a long road trip does NOT mean that you’re not spending time in your car. Now that school has started, so have carpools, rides to extracurricular activities, shuttling kids to school, and weekend sleepovers. Or, if you’re like me, you don’t have school age kids yet, but every time you go anywhere, the backseat ends up looking like a toy box exploded (along with some snacks and drinks…). I feel like anytime is the right time to get more organized and the One Step Ahead Car Organizer helped my backseat go from toy/juice explosion, to neat contained chaos in no time.

clip_image004One Step Ahead is an awesome company that brings solutions to those every day challenges we face with kids. We actually purchased an awesome inflatable bathtub from them when Atticus was younger. They have great high quality products.

Okay, back to the car organizer. I’ve always kept a stockpile of toys in the car. I also keep spare diapers, a couple of snacks, and a change of clothes for those moments that inevitably happen when you’re out and about. I’ve tried a ton of different ways to keep it all organized – bags, plastic tubs, trunk organizers… but none of it worked. When I got the One Step Ahead Family Travel Organizer, I wasn’t sure it would do the job. Boy was I wrong! Everything from the boxes on the floor and the stuff all over the seat was easily organized in seconds.

The Family Travel Organizer has a ton of features that I LOVE!

clip_image006 clip_image008

– Mesh cupholders that are easily accessible and hold a variety of sizes.

– A sturdy snap-on lid that can serve as a snack table or play table.

– A carry strap that allows the organizer to work as a bag.

– 8 outside pockets for storing and organizing all of the extra stuff.

– Repositionable dividers to create the space you need – like splitting it in half for 2 kids.

You can see from the before and after pictures that this organizer really cleans up the space in your car. We’ve been using it for 3 weeks now, and it STILL keeps things within arms reach and nice and tidy. The best part is, Atticus understands what the organizer is for, and where things go in it. AWESOME!

This Family Travel Organizer is now on my recommendation list for anyone who drives around with a little one in your car! It will help you keep your car clean… and your car time a little less stressful.

Getting Kids to Eat Healthy How Do you Do It? #TysonNuggets

March 4, 2012 by Momstart

When it comes to eating in our house, I’ve never really had to battle with my children. My children were born with a love of food. They love to eat and I’m really fortunate I know. As Zoe is getting older she’s becoming more finicky about some of the foods she likes to eat. Miles however, still likes pretty much everything. I would say he prefers to stay away from green foods but usually changes his mind after he finds out his sister actually likes it.

Now as I was saying about Zoe, she’s developing her taste buds deciding that there are things she doesn’t like. That includes most meats are and a few veggies. She also insists that veggies are not a snack in her opinion. And sometimes she has issues with texture. I hear that’s a common problem with kids. So how do we get her to eat the things she doesn’t like.

We try a few different methods and sometimes none of them work. First off, in our house we have a rule that you eat what mom and dad make for dinner or you don’t eat. Sometimes, she’s fine just not eating and since I know she ate every other meal that day, no big deal. I don’t fight it. Other times, we try really hard to get them to have a no thank you helping. I have yet to actually get them to say no thank you. Most of the time it’s that’s gross mom. I don’t know about your house but we’re a work in progress working to say no thank you.

image_thumb44[1]

Also the biggest tip I can give you is telling you that we always have a variety on our plate. I try to have two veggies on the plate and I give them one that Miles like and one that Zoe likes. In addition to the variety we often add a dip of some kind. Low fat yogurt, hummus, and mustard are favorites in our house. It’s also worked in getting Zoe to try the meat she thinks she doesn’t like. Most of the time she ends up liking it, it’s just getting her to try it.

Tyson is offering you the chance to have your child features in ads in People Magazine, Parents Magazine and on a billboard in New York Times Square in the Get A Smiles Give A Smile contest. They are also donating 4 million meals to hungry families in need.

Thanks to Tyson’s 100% All Natural Chicken Nuggets, now you don’t have to choose between making your kids happy and feeding them balanced meals.

But I’m curious, how do you ensure your child maintains a balanced diet? Join the conversation and Tyson will select a winner and donate $500 in the winner’s name to a local food bank!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Tyson Nuggets. The opinions and text are all mine. Official Sweepstakes Rules.
