Miracle Mission: Johnson’s Contribution to My Charity Special Delivery

July 19, 2011 by Momstart 12 Comments

I like to take a small project for charity and make it is big as I can. So when Pampers presented me with helping out a local charity, I chose Special Delivery and I got a list of their needs. They always need things to give the new moms.

So what’s Johnson’s good at?

Baby Products!

Johnson’s asked me to host a giveaway for them, The Treasuring Everyday Joy Book and gift basket giveaway. I said yes, and asked for a donation. They sent me six beautiful baskets in fun bright colors.

And one copy of the Treasuring Everyday Joy.

I’m so grateful to Johnson’s for making this donation and I can’t wait to deliver it to Special Delivery. It’s an awesome donation for any new mom. Especially one in need.

Johnson’s Treasuring Everyday Joy with Alyson Hannigan

June 30, 2011 by Momstart 232 Comments

My two bundles of joy bring me happiness every day. They make me laugh cry and love my life. Zoe is 4 going on teenager ready to move out. She wants to wear makeup and go to college and is almost always sporting a princess dress for playtime. Miles is 3 going on driving me up the wall. He pays attention like a cat walks on water but amuses me when he’s in his comedian joke telling mode. They both complete every day for me. Our house had a flood about three weeks ago and the kids have been sleeping on our bed in our room. Each night my husband or I get to sleep in the bed with them, and you may think I’m crazy but I enjoy it a great deal. I get quite a sense of peace and joy sleeping in the same bed as my children. Hearing them breathe is the most peaceful sound in the world to me. That’s my everyday joy!

Joy Logo FinalJohnson’s kicked off the treasuring everyday joy campaign earlier this year. They went around the country and found 50 joyous families and featured them on WE TV and published a book dedicated to Treasuring Everyday Joy. This book is complete with photos and profiles of all 50 families. Leading comedy actress and mother of 3, Alyson Hannigan (CBS’s How I Met Your Mother), kicked off the campaign in honor of treasuring the small joys in one’s life.

“It is so important to treasure everyday moments with your children,” said celebrity mom Alyson Hannigan. “Whether it’s the giggles during bath time or reading with them before bedtime; it’s those simple things that are part of your daily routine which you come to value most as a mom. I never take those moments for granted as they change so much from day-to-day, that each one is a new adventure.”

Alyson HanniganShe has generously signed a few of the TREASURING EVERYDAY JOY™ books and we have one to giveaway along with a basket of Johnson’s products.

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Gianna.

Don’t Be an Asterisk, stay away from steroid use

February 18, 2010 by Momstart 74 Comments

antisteroids_fake_ooh

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the Ad Council announced a multi-year public awareness campaign focused on teen steroid use. The campaign is funded by U.S. Olympic Team sponsor Johnson & Johnson (one of my favorite companies to work with 😉 ). This is the first time that USOC and the Ad Council have joined forces to raise awareness about the national issue of illegal performance-enhancing drugs both within and outside of sport. We hear about athletes using drugs so often in the media that children and teenagers don’t think much about it. So it’s important to raise awareness.

"We know athletes and individuals who choose to engage in the destructive behavior of illegal steroid use live in fear of being found out,” said USOC Chief Executive Officer Jim Scherr. “This initiative is geared to show teens and other age groups that illegal steroid use can only lead to a harmful and embarrassing end. Additionally, teens need to fully understand the dangerous health risks associated with steroids and other performance-enhancing substances."

The campaign conveys the urgency of the abuse in an effort to shift teens’ perception and image around steroid use. All of the PSAs direct the audience to visit www.DontBeAnAsterisk.com to learn more about steroids, hear from professional athletes and find healthy alternatives to excel in athletics.

"We are proud to partner with the United States Olympic Committee, Johnson & Johnson and creative agency TBWA on this critical issue to help teenagers realize that steroids are socially unacceptable," said Peggy Conlon, President & CEO, the Ad Council. "The ads are engaging and memorable, while motivating, and I believe they will have a great impact on teens and parents in our country."

The funding from Johnson & Johnson will last at least three years. Johnson & Johnson has long been engaged in health awareness and education initiatives worldwide, and its support of the USOC and Ad Council’s anti-steroid message is a critical piece in the campaign’s ultimate success.

"Johnson & Johnson recognizes how important it is to educate teens about the appropriate use of all medications and the dangers associated with their misuse," said Brian Perkins, Corporate Vice President, Corporate Affairs. "The elements of this campaign should resonate as authentic with teens, and they are consistent with our philosophy of caring about people’s health and well-being in ways that are meaningful and impactful."

The campaign was created pro bono under the direction of TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York, a leading global advertising agency. Research conducted to help inform the campaign led TBWA\Chiat\Day to focus on the word and symbol of the "Asterisk – *" as the foundation for the campaign.

“Being caught with steroids comes with absolute penalties. You’re off the team. Your scholarship is gone. Your hopes of going pro are possibly out the window,” Gary Scheiner, Executive Creative Director, TBWA\Chiat\Day. “Our creative solution was to make teens understand that of all the outcomes of steroid use, fakeness is also considerably damaging. To illustrate this, we took a well-known icon already used in the world of sport, and turned it into our scarlet letter. The Asterisk.”

A link to the official Web site for the campaign – www.DontBeAnAsterisk.com – can be found on both the USOC and Ad Council Web sites – www.teamusa.org and www.adcouncil.org. You can also learn more on the facebook page for Don’t Be an Asterisk.

Thanks to my Mom

May 7, 2009 by MomStart 4 Comments

Thanks to my mom I am only 5 ft 6, I need glasses and I have a gap in my teeth. Thinking about what my mother gave me is hard because I have two moms. No, my moms aren’t gay, my parents go a divorce when I was two or three and my dad re-married.

My birth mother gave me my looks and sometimes crazy desires to do wild things without thinking them through. (I don’t have these urges very often especially now that I’m married and have my own children). When I was in high school and in college I would just drive to some destination with my best friend sitting beside me and we would go have some fun. Once we ended up in New Orleans, another time we were in Deep Elem.

My stepmom (I hate that word it has such a negative connotation to it.) gave me my motherly instincts and strength. I learned from her how to run a house. Women really are the ones that take care of the kids, keep the budget, and serve the meals. We do it all.

This blog blast was written in participation with JOHNSON’S® Brand and the Parent Bloggers Network. JOHNSON’s second annual Celebrity Hand Me Down charity auction runs from 7 pm PT on Thursday May 7 through 7 pm PT on Thursday May 14, featuring items donated by celebrity moms Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba.  All proceeds will benefit the new global JOHNSON’S® NO MORE TEARS® Clean Water initiative via their well-known charitable giving site, Baby Cause.
