It’s All About Family
In case you haven’t heard, Ice Age – Continental Drift will be hitting theatres nationwide Friday July 13. To get ready for this movie… and to get all of you guys ready for this movie… I had the pleasure of interviewing John Leguizamo, also known as the voice of Sid.
John Leguizamo has quite an impressive resume and a great story. He has worked on such a wide array of projects in film, theatre, television, and literature. He has done everything from Sesame Street, to Summer of Sam, Moulin Rouge, Dr. Dolittle, and pretty much everything in between. I had no idea how much he had done until I started looking into it. Talk about talented!!!
As a comedian, John Leguizamo can definitely bring out the laughs. Within the first minute of our phone interview I had already laughed out loud. What else did I learn about Mr. Leguizamo? He is a family man, and values the theme of family that runs throughout the Ice Age movies. “The message has always been really beautiful, which is family is the most important thing… It’s what you make of family that counts.” I was so impressed with this. Leguizamo continued on to say that “The theme of Ice Age ‘infected’ us (the cast) all because we really feel close to each other, with Ray (Romano) and Queen (Latifah) and Denis Leary, we always have a great time together.”
It was great to hear how Manny in the film was definitely someone that Leguizamo could relate to. Why, you ask? In the movie, Manny has a daughter who is doing all things teenager and John happens to have a daughter that is just about to hit 13. “…it’s similar to what Manny Is dealing with in the story. How far do you let them go on their own? How much do you reel them in? How much do you control?” I loved what message Leguizamo tries to get across to his daughter: “Embrace your childhood. It only happens once. You don’t have to grow up so fast.” Of course he added, “Don’t woory, old age is going to come to you!” HA! How true!
You can see what a family man Leguizamo is… and definitely get a feel for how important family is in Ice Age. What else can you get that’s an sneak peek? What about how John Leguizamo found Sid? After trying out several voices for the director that didn’t fit, he watched A LOT of Discovery Channel sloth coverage. “I (John) started walking around with a sandwich going, ‘how am I going to come up with a voice for a sloth, I have no idea what the voice is… “ And talking with a sandwich in his mouth is how he found Sid!
