Oscar is Now on Blu-ray: Chimpanzee Blu-ray Combo Pack

August 25, 2012 by Momstart 9 Comments

The adorable Oscar is now going home, your home. On August 21st, Disneynatures’ CHIMPANZEE releases on Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD), Digital and On-Demand viewing. The inspiring film follows the True-Life Adventure of Oscar, a young chimpanzee whose curiosity and zest for life showcase the intelligence and ingenuity of some of the most extraordinary personalities in the animal kingdom. Bonus material includes a making-of documentary, the "Rise" music video from McClain Sisters and more!clip_image001

I love Oscar and quickly fell in love with him the very first time I saw a preview for him. He is an adorable little guy that steals your heart just as he stole his mothers. While he was growing up with his family, his mother died and he was left all alone to fend for himself. Being as small as he was he couldn’t quite do everything required to survive all alone. So he asked the other moms in the community to adopt him, they all turned him away as they were teaching their own children. It was heart wrenching to watch. However, Oscar was not one to just curl up and give up. He asked their leader to help him out and he was adopted.

During my experience watching Chimpanzee in Orlando with Disney I had the opportunity to talk with Jane Goodall first hand. She said that an adventure like this is unexpected and hardly ever happens. While they watch Chimpanzee families, they do not interfere and they would have had to watch him die, but this story unfolded right before them, they were about to give up on poor Oscar luckily his life changed.

Be sure to get your own copy of Chimpanzee and share Oscar with your own family.

To celebrate the in-home debut of “Chimpanzee,” Disneynature is proud to continue the “See ‘Chimpanzee,’ Save Chimpanzees” conservation program initiated with the film’s theatrical release. For every purchase of the movie through August 27, 2012, Disneynature will make a donation through the Disney Worldwide ConservationFund to the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) to conserve chimpanzee habitat, educate the next generation, and provide care for orphaned chimpanzees.

The conservation program tied to the theatrical release will help protect 129,236 acres (202 square miles) of wild chimpanzee habitat throughinfrastructure investments in the expanded Tchimpounga Nature Reserve in the Republic of Congo (Congo); educate 60,000 schoolchildren about chimpanzee conservation; and provide food and medicine for nearly all of the orphaned chimpanzees at JGI’s Tchimpounga chimpanzee sanctuary for at least the next year.

Celebrate Earth Day With Earth Saving Tips from Hormel #HormelFamily

April 21, 2012 by Momstart 21 Comments

Did you know that April 22nd marks the 42nd anniversary of the celebration of Earth Day? I had no idea it was around that long, does knowing that change your mind about how important it is? For me it means I’m going to considering doing something with my kids especially after listening to Jane Goodall talk during my interview with her for the Premier of Chimpanzee about the earth and how we aren’t doing enough to bring about change. Earth day is a great start but it’s going to take us doing these things every day to make a difference.

image

This year, the Earth Day Network announced that the main focus of Earth Day will be to continue building the environmental movement and engaging new environmental activists around the globe. In order to make Earth Day a success, it is essential that each and every person set environmental goals, contribute and do their part including major companies like Hormel.

Did you know that about 80 percent of Hormel Foods’ product packaging by weight is recyclable and/or made from recycled materials? Over the past few years, Hormel has found many ways to reduce, revamp and change the size and material of their packages. In 2009, a half-inch in height was removed from each Jennie-O Turkey Store turkey burger carton, generating an annual paperboard savings of more than 68,000 pounds! More information on Hormel Foods’ package minimization efforts .

There are plenty of simple ways that you and your family can help that won’t feel like you are overhauling your lifestyle but they still make a difference. Jane Goodall says that we need to be aware of what we purchase and how it was made, just an FYI from taken away from my interview with her.

These tips are from Hormel:

• Plan an eco-friendly picnic! Skip paper plates and bring along utensils and dishes from home. Pack products that are known for their eco-friendly and sustainable packaging. One example is Hormel® Natural Choice® deli meats. As part of its commitment to be 100 percent natural inside and out, Hormel® Natural Choice® deli meats now has recyclable packaging made of 100 percent recycled material and they are the only national brand that features 100 percent recycled packaging.

• On your next trip to the grocery store, avoid the plastic by bringing along a cloth, reusable bag. Not only are they inexpensive, but they are a lot stronger than regular plastic bags!

• Take a shorter shower or brush your teeth without running the water. Not only will you reduce water consumption, but the energy costs associated with heating the water.

• Contribute to an online campaign through the Earth Day Network! There are also plenty of opportunities for you to volunteer on the actual day in your communities! http://www.earthday.org/take-action

• Last month, Hormel introduced a brand new eco-friendly package for Hormel™ Country Crock® sides! This new “in-mold” package design replaces the paper sleeve, placing the printed information directly on the tub, which saves more than 8,500 trees a year! Try one of the newly introduced flavors that include cheesy diced potatoes, four cheese penne pasta with broccoli,

This post enters me into a contest with Hormel Family as an ambassador.

Walking the Red Carpet to Disneynature’s Chimpanzee

April 20, 2012 by Momstart 20 Comments

I have to say that walking the red carpet will never get old and become routine for me. Seeing people that I’ve heard about and admired for years like Jane Goodall will always be humbling and I hope that sharing these photos with you will make you feel like you were there with me.

Jane Goodall:

“Yes. Everybody who goes to see this film in its first week, the Jane Goodall Institute gets a percentage to the ticket sales, and all of that money is going to actually help us look after our little Oscars. We put a sanctuary with over 150 orphan chimps whose mothers were killed in the bush meat trade. And it’s very expensive, looking after them, and right now we’re struggling to get the funds to prepare the big island in the middle of the river.

Which will make a safe place for the adults, for some of our orphans and our full-grown. And they’re very smart. They learn how to escape, and that’s dangerous for them, and it’s very dangerous for our staff. So it’s a bit desperate. We need to raise this money.”

The Directors Alastair Fothergill & Mark Linfiled and Jane Goodall:

“the scientists have been working with those chimpanzees for 30 years and never ever seen that to happen. And so for that to happen was fantastic for Oscar, but, my goodness, you know, if we’d written the script exactly as we’d wanted, we wouldn’t have, in our wildest dreams, have that happen, and it’s just such a lovely story, because male chimpanzees are such macho guys. I mean, they are. Their brains are a third as big as ours, but they have three times as much muscle. And when you meet them they are just…oh.”

The McClain Sisters:

“always remember what you were taught and always have faith in what you believe in “

Spring Break with Disney’s Chimpanzee: What Would You Ask Jane Goodall?

March 25, 2012 by Momstart 19 Comments

In less than 3 weeks I’m going to be having my first Spring break since 2002. I’ll be traveling to Kissimmee with the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau staying with Global Resort Homes celebrating the opening of the Earth Day Movie Chimpanzee.

clip_image001

I don’t know all the details about Chimpanzee. I’ve seen the preview and read the synopsis and can’t wait to see it with my box of tissues. I’m one of those people that cried and the drop of a hat, so I know I’m going to cry for this poor chimpanzee. Something happens and he’s separated from his family and left all alone until he’s found by another chimpanzee that adopts him. I already feel like I have to know what happened to his family and what happens with his new family. Plus I’m really excited at the chance to talk to the experts behind the movie.

During the visit I’ll have the chance to interview Dr. Jane Goodall and I can’t tell you in words what a treat that experience is to me. All also be speaking with Directors Alastair Fothergill & Mark Linfield and Dr. Beth Stevens, Senior Vice President of Corporate Citizenship Environment & Conservation for The Walt Disney Company.

What would you ask Jane Goodall?

This trip is mostly paid for by Disney, Kissimmee CVB, and Global Resort Homes.

A Quick Peek at the New Disneynature Movie: Chimpanzee

March 6, 2012 by Momstart 11 Comments

By: Ashley

When I head to the zoo, watching the chimpanzees is one of my favorite things to do. I love looking at their hands and noticing the expressions on their faces. It really is incredible to watch them move and interact with one another. It should really come as no surprise then, how much this movie trailer touched me! It’s no secret that I can be a little sappy sometimes, but I don’t know anyone who could watch this trailer and not feel the same way. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but Chimpanzee definitely looks like something I would like to see. Want to know more? Check this out.

Not only is this a feel good movie, but it’s a movie that you can feel good going to see. We all know that going to the movie can cost some money, but knowing that part of that ticket price is going to a good cause? That makes it so much better! If you go see Disneynature’s Chimpanzee during it’s opening week, and Disneynature will make a donation in your honor to the Jane Goodall Institute. So mark your calendars! Chimpanzee comes out on April 20.
