Red White & Blue TruMoo Ice Cream Recipe & Giveaway

June 16, 2014 by Momstart 88 Comments

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TruMoo for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Moms are always looking for ways to get their kids to eat right, and always looking for ways to get their kids to have more nutrients in their diets. An easy way to get some of those nutrients in them is through their milk. TruMoo is milk that contains 8 essential nutriens and it comes in some really fun flavors. Each flavored milk is sweetened with just enough sugar and doesn’t contain high fructose core syrup. We like all the flavors, but today I thought it would be fun to get the strawberry flavor and create some ice cream with it.

TruMoo is made from low fat milk and has no artificial growth hormones and is just delicious.

I have a KitchenAid Ice cream maker that I used to make the ice cream. First I measured out all the ingredients, including the TruMoo Strawberry milk.

Measured TruMoo Strawberry Milk

It’s getting really close to the Fourth of July so I made:

Trumoo ice cream

Red White & Blue TruMoo Ice Cream Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup TruMoo
2 eggs
1 cup of sugar split (1/4 and 3/4)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 pint strawberrys chopped
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 pint blueberries

Directions:

Place the fruit in a bowl with lemon juice and 1/4 cup sugar. Then place in the fridge for an hour.

Next Beat the eggs on high for 2 minutes in a mixing bowl, then add the remaining sugar and continue beating.

Next Add the milk and vanilla extract and slow the mixer down.

Then slowly add the heavy whipping cream beat for another 2 minutes.

Then pour the mixture in the ice cream maker. Add the fruit and follow the directions of your ice cream maker

I remember one time when Zoe and I were on a blog trip together and when traveling it’s hard to get your kids to eat healthy, it’s hard to eat healthy yourself. This particular hotel had TruMoo milk as the milk options for kids and she loved it. I liked it too, I even used it as the creamer for my coffee. I had no idea that there was a TruMoo Creamer.

Strawberry Ice Cream Sandwiches

June 9, 2014 by Beeb 2 Comments

Strawberry Ice Cream Sandwiches

It’s never even occurred to me to make my own ice cream sandwiches from scratch, so I am super impressed with this recipe from Nielsen-Massey – doesn’t this sound amazing?!

Strawberry Ice Cream Sandwiches
Recipe courtesy of Nielsen-Massey Vanillas.

Ice Cream
(Yield 1½ Quarts)

Ingredients:
1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and washed
¾ cup sugar
2 teaspoons Nielsen-Massey Tahitian Pure Vanilla Extract
¼ teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Pure Lemon Extract
¼ teaspoon salt
1½ cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup whole milk

Directions:
In a 4 quart glass measuring cup, add berries, sugar, vanilla and lemon extracts, and salt. Smash with a potato masher; stir in cream and milk; set aside.

Assemble ice cream maker. Turn ice cream maker on and pour ice cream mixture into *frozen container. Let mix until ice cream thickens, about 20 minutes.

Transfer ice cream into an air tight container; freeze for several hours, or for a firmer ice cream, freeze overnight. Scoop ice cream, place between 2 cookies and gently press.
Or, for a prefect ice cream round; line a 9×13-inch pan with foil then evenly spread ice cream with a rubber spatula; cover and freeze overnight. Then use a cookie cutter to cut desired diameter of ice cream rounds and place between 2 cookies.

Follow manufacturers’ directions for freezing container, 24 hours or longer is ideal.

Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
(Makes about 3 Dozen)

Ingredients:
2½ cups unbleached all-purpose flour
⅓ cup cocoa powder (Dutch processed)
½ teaspoon ground cardamom
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup (1¼ sticks) butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
½ cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1½ tablespoons Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
1 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Pure Chocolate Extract
1 egg
¼ cup unsulphured original molasses
¼ sugar to dip glass bottom

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line 2 light-colored heavy baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, cardamom, and salt, set aside. In a large mixing bowl, add butter, powdered sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and chocolate extracts; beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Beat in egg. Add molasses; beat until combined. Reduce speed to low and add dry ingredients in three batches, beating after each addition until combined.

Roll 1-inch balls and place on cookie sheets. Using the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar, lightly press each cookie flat. Bake one sheet pan at a time on center rack until done, about 8-10 minutes. Cool cookies on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.

You can find more yummy recipes on the Nielsen-Massey website.

Order Ice Cream Cakes Online with @BaskinRobbins

April 24, 2014 by momicles 2 Comments

Since Baskin Robbins is one of the legendary makers of ice cream, it’s no surprise that their ice cream cakes are delicious. Now you can even order one of their personalized, ice creamy goodness cakes online. I received a gift card to test out Baskin Robbins new online ordering system and I am so glad that I did. No hassle, super easy, and everything was correct.

brbr3

I can honestly say that ice cream cakes are perfect for just about any occasion: birthdays, baby showers, spring flings, cookouts, you name it! With sixteen different ice cream flavors to choose from and 2 cake flavors (chocolate, vanilla), you can customize your Baskin Robbins ice cream cake and make it whatever you want it to be. That’s just the inside! You can also choose from many different cake shapes and designs: baseball, ladybug, purse, football, traditional circle, and rectangle. There are so many options! Take a peek at Baskin Robbins online to see the gallery of cakes ready for online ordering.

BR Cake BR Cake inside

You might worry the system would be slow or confusing. It’s actually super simple and I had no problems placing my order online when I wasn’t even in the country! My favorite part of the system is that you don’t have to create an online account with Baskin Robbins. You have the option to order as a guest which saves you the time and hassle of entering all of your information.

Cakes can be ready as soon as 24 hours after the order is placed. After making all of the choices about your ice cream cake, you are able to choose the date and time that you will pick up the cake. Then you are all set! I ordered a “Batter Up” ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins 3 days before I needed it. When I had prepaid online, so when I walked in with my confirmation email to pick up the cake, everything was… well… a piece of cake. They handed me my ice cream cake and I headed out the door.

BR Cake Ax

Being able to order an ice cream cake from anywhere, paying ahead of time, and an easy breezy pick up makes this something I will definitely be doing again. Hmmm, maybe with Mother’s Day just around the corner I’ll order myself a Happy Mother’s Day ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. =)

Disclosure : A gift card was provided to test the online ordering system. All opinions are my own.

July 26, 2013 by Momstart 2 Comments

We’re having a heat wave…..

It’s been really nice in Washington, we’ve had one of the most beautiful summers I can remember in all the years I’ve lived here. In fact, on a few days it’s even been down right hot so we’ve been in need of cooling off and as you know we’re having all the Popsicles we can eat. I still recommend stocking your freezer with popsicles, but if you’re in the home made type dessert I wanted to share this recipe that e-meals sent me. It’s for Peach Buttermilk Ice Cream. I love Buttermilk so this should be good.

Peach-Ice-Cream-Cone-eMeals

A Mars Modern Movie Night At the Bishop House Giveaway

June 29, 2013 by Momstart 39 Comments

We had a “Modern Movie Night, on Mars,” complete with all the trimmings TWIX Ice Cream, SNICKERS Ice Cream, M&M’S Ice Cream and Milky Way Ice Cream and a gift card.

I don’t want to be depressing with every post but I’m not with my family right now and I’m trying to still get all my work done. I’ve left them with my blog box and we’re working through it over long distance. I’m in Texas trying to be there for my family and work as I have time. Work by writing about what my husband says my family is doing with my blog review box for me. Today, they had a great day doing the Mars Experience.

image

Mars sent me an amazing array of ICE CREAM. And my kids had a movie day, well they had an experience of movies and ice cream. But I will be honest and tell you that they had to eat the ice cream outside in the back yard because my husband and I hate cleaning up the mess they make as they eat it. So that’s why the ice cream photos are outside, but they did enjoy some TV time too. image

So why a Mars Ice Cream day and a Movie Day?

Big blockbusters are invading movie theaters around the country on a weekly basis. But the big screen can come with even bigger lines…sometimes, you want to take the fun and excitement home! Home movie nights don’t have to be boring, or even at night and we want to prove it by having “Modern Movie Night, on Mars.” and give you guys a “Modern Movie Night, on Mars.” image

Delicious Mars ice cream and frozen treats including TWIX Ice Cream, SNICKERS Ice Cream, M&M’S Ice Cream and Milky Way Ice Cream have a free movie code in them. Each Mars ice cream product comes with a coupon for a free Redbox rental. I love going to Redbox and I love it even more when my husband surprises me by bringing home a new movie to watch. I have a secret movie watching addiction. I LOVE to watch movies. I really really love to watch movies, I’m even watching movies to try to lighten the mood I’m in. Dealing with someone you love in the hospital is really an emotional roller coaster. But these photos of the kids enjoying the ice cream on a really hot day and knowing they were enjoying TV time with dad really did lift my spirits. image

And so did the photos of my kids enjoying the ice cream. My husband later told me that it was practically their dinner. Oh man, I love my kids. I miss them. I wish I was enjoying movies with them. All right, enough of that and me, tell me how you and your family is cooling off this summer and enjoying family time together I hope!

· Popcorn & Mars candy – the best movie night snacks!

Eat Light and Eat Right with Skinny Cow Slimited Editions

June 18, 2012 by Momstart 20 Comments

By: Ashley

Nothing says summertime more than ice cream, and with the official start of summer, I feel like it’s the PERFECT time to share the news from Skinny Cow. If you’ve heard of Skinny Cow before, you already know that it’s going to be something good… something cold, sweet, and good! If you haven’t heard anything about them yet, then let me fill you in. image

Skinny Cow is a brand that brings you lighter dessert options in the frozen food aisles. If you’re a calorie counter, a fat gram counter, or someone who just wants a lighter ice cream option, Skinny Cow has what you’re looking for. They offer sandwiches, cones, cups and ice cream bars, along with candy bars and clusters that are low fat without being low on taste! What makes a Skinny Cow ice cream treat so good? As a person who has tried other light options, I think Skinny Cow is awesome because of it’s delicious, rich, ice cream taste. image

After a month or two of fatty meals, fast food, and eating on the go, it is HIGH time that I get back to making smart choices with my food. The only problem is, I love ice cream… especially in the summer. I can get the best of both worlds with Skinny Cow, and even better is I will never get tired of their stuff since they seem to try out new flavors just when I “need” (or maybe just want…) it the most. In fact, Skinny Cow sent me some coupons to try out some of their newest Slimited Edition (LOVE the name) flavors. After a day of unpacking and working around the house, I was SO ready to bite into one of these tasty treats. image

We had two of the Slimited Edition flavors, and one that was just marked as a new flavor. The Best of Both Swirleds Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwich, was my absolute FAVORITE! I even cut one in half and let Atticus dig in. You can see that it got the kid’s seal of approval too! Delicious soft cookie, super creamy ice cream, the perfect blend of vanilla and chocolate… Mmmmm…

We also tried the Mmmmocha Truffle Ice Cream Bars which were also SUPER yummy. They are drizzled with chocolate ribbon icing which adds the perfect amount of crunch to the outside of the ice cream. image

I was really… REALLY… excited to try the Skinny Cow Shake-Stirs. You see, my ice cream of choice is usually a shake. I couldn’t find them in the store though. For your own benefit, you should know that there are 2 Slimited Edition shake flavors – white mint cookie, and double chocolate crumble. I’m hoping those show up at my grocery store sometime soon!

If you’re looking for something cold, creamy, and light this summer – SKINNY COW! You can eat light and eat rightl

Treat Your Valentine with a Schwan’s Dessert Delivery Giveaway

February 4, 2011 by Momstart 250 Comments

I love Schwan’s! I’m not really sure why I haven’t looked into getting a delivery from them. They have so many great options to choose from. We had their Pot Pies last Fall and now we’re eating our way through their dessert menu. I even told them I would put together a video of us trying out their desserts and while I was away, my husband ate almost all the ice cream. It was my fault really, I didn’t tell him I was going to do a video review, and I don’t like fruity ice cream. I’m just not a big fan of seeds and Raspberries are full of seeds.

The night after I got home from my trip, he asked me if I wanted any ice cream. I asked him what we had, and we had Peppermint, Spumoni and Raspberry Rumble Premium Ice Cream from Schwan’s, I wasn’t so excited about it but I said that I needed to have a bite because I needed to write a review. So, I had a bite…. and… I wanted another… and I wanted another..

Dessert Trio from Schwan's

My husband got up and took the bowl with him, he said, you can have your own bowl I don’t want to share anymore with you. So we each had our own bowl. And I was really sad to find out that was all that was left. It was delicious! Oh So Delicious I want MORE. I wish it was sold at the grocery store because I want it right NOW!

I was shocked because I’ve never liked fruity ice cream before. MMM

But that wasn’t all they sent me. They also sent me microwaveable brownies and a bag full of frozen berries the Triple Berry Blend. My kids adore fruit!!! When I told them they get to have a brownie and fruit they were so excited. Bouncing off the walls excited.

schwan's desserts

Again, I wasn’t disappointed in the outcome. The kids had half of a brownie each and a bowl full of fruit. Me, I just had an entire browning to myself, because of all those seeds looking  out at me. So treat your Valentine to a Schwan’s Dessert Delivery Giveaway!

Party with Blue Bunny Ice Cream: Three Easy Ideas!

December 27, 2010 by Momstart 6 Comments

Blue Bunny Ice cream has some wonderful recipes and ideas on how to spruce up ice cream and use it as a festive party pleaser on their website. And I used Blue Bunny for two different parties this year.

For the first party, I took out all of the Christmas Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches and set out to make the Frozen Cookie Baklava. Yeah, I didn’t think about the details of making the recipe until the night of and was afraid to use lime juice in place of lemon juice, so I made it really simple instead. I cut up all the ice cream sandwiches into little triangles, and drizzled caramel all over the top. It was bite size ice cream made fancy for the party! And yea, I had a lot going on that night and didn’t get any photos. Christmas was quite quick this year, It’s the first year we were involved in church, the neighborhood, and pre-school. WOW, it’s been a blast, but I don’t know where all the time went either. Anyways, here is the recipe that inspired my ice cream creation!

Blue Bunny Frozen BaklavaBlue Bunny® Frozen Cookie Baklava

INGREDIENTS:
8 Blue Bunny®
Christmas Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches
3/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
1/2 cup honey
1 tbsp. butter, melted
2 tsp. water
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
PREPARATION:
IMG_1076In a small bowl, stir together the walnuts, honey, butter, water, lemon juice and cinnamon.  Line a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper or non-stick heavy foil.  Place 4 ice cream sandwiches in prepared pan, cutting to fit.  Spread 1/2 the walnut mixture over the top; cover with remaining ice cream sandwiches, cutting to fit.  Spread remaining walnut mixture over the top; freeze at least 6 hours or until solid.  Cut into 12 triangles.  Serve immediately.
Makes 12 servings
Prep Time: 12 minutes*
*Freeze time extra

Blue Bunny Hot Cocoa Ice Cream BarsThe second party, I actually wasn’t even able to attend. So nothing special was created. I was able to pass off the Blue Bunny ice cream to a friend and she passed it around to all of our friends to try. I missed out because I love Blue Bunny. Locally, we don’t have Blue Bunny or any of their ice cream varieties. I miss Blue Bunny Ice Cream. I was really looking forward to trying the Hot Cocoa ice cream bars. Maybe next year I can do this again or go to a state that carries all of these wonderful Blue Bunny Holiday flavors and Blue Bunny Holiday Recipes.

This will be my final grand attempt at creating an ice cream treat for this year. I hope this goes well, and I’m going to have some better planning on my part.

Blue Bunny Spumoni OrnamentsBlue Bunny® Spumoni Ornaments

Makes 4 servings
Prep Time: 15 minutes*
*Freeze time extra

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups Blue Bunny® Premium Spumoni Ice Cream
Assorted small candies, cookie and cake sprinkles or chopped nuts
4 (4-inch pieces) red licorice laces or strings
4 mint jelly leaves or green jelly fruit slices, cut in half

Directions:

Turn freezer to coldest setting.  Form ice cream into 4 (1/2 cups) scoops; place on a small wax paper lined baking sheet or baking pan.  Freeze 6 hours or until solid.  Make a small hole in top of each scoop with a knife or skewer and insert licorices "loop."  Working quickly, sprinkle each with cookie and cake sprinkles, candies or nuts; pressing gently to adhere.  Return to freezer for 1 hour or until solid.  just before serving, place 2 jelly leaves on top of each.  Serve immediately or store in freezer until needed.

Recipes are from Blue Bunny Ice cream. They also provided samples needed for the parties, while also supplying donations to the Seattle Tweet Drive.
