Bite Into Summer with Ballpark Lean Franks #Giveaway

Bite Into Summer with Ballpark Lean Franks #Giveaway

By: Ashley

clip_image002There’s just something so perfectly summer about a hot dog. It makes you think of grilling out, summer get togethers, laughing with your friends and family, and even baseball games. When you can find a hot dog made with lean meat, it makes the whole thing even better! I just had the chance to review the new Ballpark Lean Franks and they were delicious!

Ballpark Lean Franks come in 2 varieties (beef and pork). They have significantly less fat and calories than regular franks and are made with 100% beef or 100% pork. I was really hoping to cook these hot dogs on the grill, but it was a little too stormy this weekend for that, so I opted for just boiling them on the stove. Just a quick little tip for cooking hot dogs indoors, I always add a splash of apple cider vinegar to the water I’m going to boil the hot dogs in. I can’t even really explain why. My great grandmother always did it though, and now I do it too.

clip_image004Back to our Ballpark Lean Franks lunch the other day, they were great! I was really impressed with the snap that the franks had. They also had a really great hot dog flavor that is sometimes lost with lean franks but didn’t have the greasy texture that regular franks usually have.

So, is your mouth watering for some delicious summer hot dogs now? Thanks to Ballpark, you can win 2 Ballpark product coupons to get your own Ballpark Lean Franks. Check out the new commercial from Ballpark and then follow the directions to enter the giveaway below.

Leftover French Toast Recipe

September 25, 2011 by Momstart 41 Comments

We buy so much of our food in bulk because it is so much cheaper. Even though we’re a family of four we can’t always get through a Costco size package of hot dog buns. To eat them all before they lose their freshness we would have to have hot dogs five times in two weeks which isn’t that healthy of a meal plan. My husband stumbled upon a great recipe that inspired him to get in the kitchen with our left over hot dog buns.

This recipe is from Southern Plate by Christy Jordan.

Leftover French Toast Recipe:

There really isn’t that special to this recipe. You use any basic French Toast recipe just with special bread. Here we are using the left over bread.

We mixed up our French toast mix, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla and milk

IMG_4662

Then we cooked the hot dog buns in a skillet

August 22, 2011 by Momstart 37 Comments

I never would have considered making a hot dog pizza if I hadn’t seen it on my friend’s blog first. Hers is a little different because she served it on bread but I knew it would be a huge success with my family. As we all LOVE hot dogs and we all LOVE Pizza.

IMG_2992

Plus this was another fun opportunity to cook with Miles. Chef Miles helped me gather all of the ingredients and he cut up all the hot dogs that went on the pizza.

Blogger Approved Grilling Tips & Grilling Days of Summer Sweeps

June 3, 2011 by Momstart 83 Comments

You all must know by now that I have a very soft spot for Sara Lee and the products they make. Even before I started blogging, one of the brands we purchase from most often for food products has been Sara Lee. They make bakery products, frozen desserts, Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farms, not to mention Ball Park, my husband’s all time favorite hot dog brand. Actually, the whole family enjoys Ball Park all beef franks. YUM!

image

I’ve heard that you haven’t had a hot dog until you’ve had one in New York, well, I went to New York and somehow I missed out.  Ball Park Franks is helping make it easier for hot dog lovers to indulge in the authentic New York deli taste right from their own backyard with the launch of their NEW Deli Style Beef Franks!

The Ball Park Deli Style Beef Franks contain great tasting, high quality beef with no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, no by-products and no MSG added. Available in two varieties, Ball Park Deli Style Beef Franks and Ball Park Bun Size Deli Style Beef Franks, they make for a quick and easy meal option for the entire family – whether they’re grilled, boiled, microwaved or steamed.

Ball Park also asked for grilling tips from bloggers like me. So if you’re planning on grilling this summer, and most red blooded Americans do at least once here are some really great grilling tips:

Here are your blogger approved grilling tips:

• When grilling fruit make sure to use the cooler parts of the grill – fruit does best with a lower temperature.
– Louise Bishop from Mom Start

• Use an onion cut in half to clean your grill. Heat up the grill, hold the onion by the “stem” and then rub the onion all over the grates.
– Courtney Solstad from My Crazy Savings

• No topping is too unique for a hot dog. After grilling the franks, place them in a bun and top them with some of my favorite items (not necessarily together!): Crumbled Potato Chips, French Fries, Bacon Crumbles and Chili.
– Tésa Nicolanti from 2 Wired 2 Tired

• Make sure you turn your hot dogs over on all sides equally and once you see a bit of blistering on the outside that means the hot dogs are grilled enough to eat.
– Melissa Chapman from The Staten Island Family

• I love this grilled vegetable recipe!  Thinly slice peeled potatoes and onions and place on the center of a piece of foil.  Add a few tabs of butter, kosher salt, cracked black pepper, and anything else you like, such as chunks of bell peppers or crushed garlic.  Wrap into a package and toss on the grill for smoky, delicious potatoes!
– Angela Williamson from Fab Find Foodie

Ball Park Franks is hosting a “Grilling Days of Summer” Sweepstakes for Ball Park Facebook fans to have the chance to win the ultimate 4th of July Bash by sharing a photo of their family and friends grilling out and enjoying the warm weather along with a caption about how they celebrate the summer.

It wouldn’t be MomStart without a little giveaway so one winner will receive:

Morning Star Farms Veggie Dog Giveaway

May 28, 2011 by Momstart 346 Comments

I want to introduce you to a new reviewer, one of my neighbors Orshi, and I believe she brings a unique perspective and I’m happy to have her on my team. If you remember right before Easter she shared her Egg Blowing Tips and I found it fascinating. For her first review she received MorningStar Farms Veggie Corn Dogs.

This is her MorningStar Farms Veggie Dog review:

We do not eat much processed food in our house mainly because I like to know exactly what I serve to my family. I love to cook and having children with allergies requires me to monitor what they put in their little mouths. But we love hot dogs! They are a ‘delicacy’ that all three children enjoy. And when I say ‘delicacy’ it is because we don’t get to eat them often in our house. My primary dislike against hot-dogs is that being a processed meat product, they always have Nitrites in them – which is something that I cut from our diet a while ago. Not to mention that they are loaded with fat. So I was really excited to try the MorningStar Farms Veggie Corn Dogs – a healthier and Nitrite free version of the meat based hot dogs.

clip_image002

Some fun facts about these corn dogs:

· They have 75% less fat than the leading beef corn dogs

· One serving has only 150 calories

· They are fun to eat served with your favorite sauce

· Perfect meal for vegetarians

The first serving I made for my children for lunch was warmed in the microwave. They were done in a snap and my son LOVED it. I think he found the concept of having lunch on a stick very cool and he gobbled it up and asked for a second one. I also made one for myself and while I found it really delicious by flavor, the texture did not fully appeal to me. The batter got a bit rubbery in the microwave. So the second time I warmed the corn dogs in the oven according to the directions on the package. They were much more delicious this way as the corn batter warmed through and got a crunchy bite on it that I would expect from this American classic. These dogs make a perfect lunch or snack served with some fruit or veggies – Nitrite free and low in fat.

I have several vegetarian friends who love this product and since I entertain often, this will also be one of my go-to quick snacks when they drop by.
