Honey Bunches of Oats “Fried” Ice Cream

July 22, 2015 by Momstart 1 Comment

This is a partnered post.

Ok, so I actually love fried ice cream and thought it was this impossible treat and could never ever be made at home. It’s just this delicious combination of flavors and texture. Two months ago, Honey Bunches of Oats sent me a special recipe using their cereal to make Fried Ice Cream at home. However, my son kept eating all the cereal before I got to taking a photo of the ice cream creation. So today I finally was able to secure a photo before he even opened the box. He was so relieved that I took my photo so that he could dive into another box of Honey Bunches of Oats as his breakfast. Here is the amazing recipe that includes an optional cinnamon chocolate sauce. We didn’t use the sauce but we did use Tillamook’s cinnamon horchata ice cream flavor and it was the perfect combination to the Honey Bunches of Oats.

Fried ice cream

Ingredients

“Fried” Ice cream:

1 cup Honey Bunches of Oats Almond cereal

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/4 teaspoon chili powder

1 Tablespoon vegetable oil

2 cups vanilla ice cream

Cinnamon-Chocolate Sauce:

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

3 Tablespoons heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

Place cereal in a medium bowl and lightly crush with your hands or the back of a wooden spoon. Add coconut and chili powder and combine.

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil. Add cereal and coconut mixture and fry until it is golden brown and toasted, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool completely

Using a 1/2 cup measure, scoop ice cream and quickly form balls with your hands. Place on a small try and immediately return to the freezer for at least 30 minutes or until the balls are firm.

Remove ice cream balls from freezer and quickly roll each ball in the cereal and coconut mixture. Return to freezer for at least another 30 minutes or until the balls are firm again.

When ready to serve, combine the chocolate chips, cream and cinnamon in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. If the chips are not completely melted, stir and microwave for an additional 30 seconds.

Serve each fried ice cream ball with a drizzle of cinnamon-chocolate.

Tell Honey Bunches of Oats Your Favorite Fun, Healthy Way To Spend Time Together

September 15, 2012 by Momstart 24 Comments

Getting the whole family to agree is hard, every morning I let the kids decide what they want for breakfast. I’m very lucky because mine always want the same thing. Zoe wants to be different but her brother always wants what she is having. We tried Honey Bunches of Oats with more oats this summer and it was a big hit we even took it camping with us. Our whole family will loved the crispy flakes and tasty, crunchy granola clusters with just a touch of honey and we or I should say I love knowing it has 10g of whole grain per serving. Getting the kids to have whole grain helps them feel full longer and that’s really important to me.

image

Our family loves to go camping and it’s good for me because when we go camping we usually don’t have phone reception and my computer stays behind. Therefore we’re fully engages as a family. My kids have no electronics and my husband has our complete attention and I know it’s really important to him to have that every now and then.

image

Plus it’s a weekend full of activities. We go hiking, ride bikes tell spooky ghost stories and play in the ocean. Zoe loves collecting sea shells and walking with her dad. I love watching my family love each other in such tender ways.

How does your family enjoy spending time together.

Post Great Grains and Honey Bunches of Oats with Raisins

April 24, 2011 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Last week, Post held a Facebook live video chat with Curtis Stone from NBC’s “America’s Next Great Restaurant” and host of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters,”on the Post Great Grains Facebook Page.  The conversation was about how Curtis believes in a whole-food philosophy and the importance of eating less-processed foods, like Post’s Great Grains Cereal, for better nutrition. Curtis said, “The best approach to food is to keep it whole. That’s what they do with Great Grains.” You can learn more from Curtis by watching the video over on the Post Great Grains Facebook Page.

imageI actually had no idea that Great Grains is a name of a type of cereal that Post makes. Great Grains uses more simple ingredients; more "whole food" ingredients like whole grain flakes from the actual wheat berry, as well as real fruit and nuts. Rather than grinding our wheat into flour and then stamping it into uniform flakes, Great Grains Cranberry Almond Crunch carefully cracks the whole wheat berry, and adds a mix of grains to provide a flake that helps lock in the full flavor and nutrients. The Great Grains cereals come in three different varieties, Cranberry Almond Crunch, Crunchy Pecan (which I really want to try) and Raisins, Dates, & Pecans.

We received Post’s Honey Bunches of Oats newest variety, Raisin Medley. With Three kinds of Raisins you’re sure to find raisins in every bowl of cereal. My husband and kids both really enjoyed eating it. There’s only one cereal with THREE different kinds of raisins and multi-grain flakes – New Honey Bunches of Oats Raisin Medley! Enjoy the crunchy oat clusters, crispy flakes and delicious raisins for the perfect balance of taste, texture and nutrition. I’m not a big raisin fan, so I didn’t care for the cereal, but my opinion doesn’t really count. I don’t like any cereal that gets soggy. You may be thinking, how do I eat cereal, I actually try not too. Or I eat it dry. I do love cereal dry.

Honey Bunches of Oats vanilla bunches is actually one of my favorites when eaten dry. I love that slight hint of vanilla on my cereal. While I was writing this review, I found that Post also makes a cereal called Just Bunches. Now Just Bunches looks like a cereal up my alley because they removed the part that gets soggy, the flakes. I’m going to have to try a box of Honey Roasted Just Bunches the next time I find it in the grocery store.

Disclosure – A product was provided to me free of charge by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the writing of this review; however, opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.
