Let Me Bing You a Fresh Christmas Dinner

December 23, 2010 by Momstart 1 Comment

Only Two Days left until Christmas, are you thinking about your Christmas Meal Yet. I was reading my friend’s Holiday Courses and man, I want to go to her house this year because I have no plans!! Summer has some great ideas for us on making sure that our Fresh FoodChristmas meal is fresh, and if you want it fresh of course you still have time to run out and find those fresh ingredients.

It’s time to start purchasing the food for your Christmas dinner; head to your farmer’s market and purchase local ingredients. Pay a visit to a local butcher for your meats. If you don’t know of local places than Bing them. Once you find one source of local and fresh, finding other sources should be easier as you can ask the shop or other shopper for referrals; chances are these places are in the know of other fresh sources as their concern is local and health foods.

If you don’t have a close year round local farmer’s market than check the signs at your grocery store or labels on fresh food. Think about how far it had to travel to get to your table. If you can’t find these details in your store ask the grocer in the fruit and vegetable department for these details.

Funny Side Note: I had to use this title because my husband brought me a cup of coffee this morning, in a Bing Coffee Mug and he said, let me Bing you your coffee.

About Summer:

Summer is the President of our Local MOMS Club chapter, she is the mother of two adorable active boys, and is always thinking of ways to help others. She is a friend, a wife, and always busy as all mommies are. She is very active on Facebook, addicted to Geocaching and very interested in organic and green living.

Saving With Walmart on Thanksgiving and Christmas can be affordable

November 26, 2009 by Momstart 649 Comments

clip_image002I often forget that Walmart has a price matching policy and was recently reminded of that for the Black Friday Deals they are planning tomorrow. I’m not sure what power in the world would get me out into that craziness tomorrow. I get so grumpy with traffic and this day brings out the crazies. Walmart has a new development on their site, an intra site so to speak. You can read about saving money, making dinner for eight, Melissa d’Arabians and her savvy advice on cooking and saving, and great recipe ideas with entertaining on a budget.. They decided to put this together because of a survey put together by the American Farm Bureau Federation. Last year’s average cost of a turkey was roughly $1.19 per pound. Select Grade A turkeys are available now for 40 cents per pound at Walmart.* These gobblers are part of Walmart’s $20 Thanksgiving menu guaranteeing family favorites will be on the dinner table this holiday season.

For your Holiday Dinner (since Thanksgiving is already over, unless you are like my family and celebrate it the Saturday after)

Walmart’s $20 Thanksgiving feast for 8 includes:

  • One 12-pound Grade A turkey*
  • Three 11 to 15.5-ounce cans Green Giant vegetables
  • Two 14-ounce cans Ocean Spray cranberry sauce
  • Three 6-ounce boxes of Stove Top stuffing
  • One 5-pound bag of red potatoes
  • One 12-count package of Sara Lee dinner rolls
  • One 22-ounce pumpkin roll cake

I do love going to Walmart for my shopping. My husband hates it but people in the Pacific Northwest seem to have a different opinion of Walmart than Southern people do. I mean, growing up Walmart was practically in my back yard. We could walk to it if we wanted to. We never went that far from home. Walmart sent me a gift card to use and I haven’t had time to use it yet. I’m going to use it the day before my surgery and make sure I have everything I need. I need some after medications and I know Walmart is the place to get them cheap.

I also have tow cards to give to two lucky readers.

*Prices and availability may vary in AK, HI, OK, NM, WI and at Walmart.com. Prices on select Grade A turkeys begin November 4; limit two turkeys per customer; weights and brands vary by store. Quantities are limited; no rain checks. All prices do not include tax.
