I have a story to tell you about this Thanksgiving. Every year for as long as my daughter can remember I made the full Thanksgiving meal. I would cook appetizers, the turkey, dressing sides and it would only be for the four of us. We would eat on the food I made all day long. We would decorate the table and Zoe would get to help. This year we didn’t have any supplies and my daughter was worried it wouldn’t feel like Thanksgiving. She reminded us to go to the store and I told her daddy already did. She said where’s the turkey mom? We didn’t get a turkey this year we got some ground turkey and your dad is going to make burgers. She broke into tears and said it’s not going to be Thanksgiving.

I hugged her and told her that it would still be Thanksgiving because we were a family and grateful for all we have. It’s not the turkey and food that makes Thanksgiving but us being together and thankful. She didn’t believe me and was very sad. On Thanksgiving day, her dad had her help make the burgers and they were delicious. Who knew that Turkey burgers could taste so good. We went around the table talking about what we were thankful for and suddenly she realized it was still Thanksgiving. This just proved to me that traditions are really important to kids and hopefully Zoe will remember that it’s not about the food.

The Holidays and Hickory Farms Go Hand In Hand @HickoryFarms #AD

Traditions are a part of the holidays and we have more than one. We put up Christmas lights on the house and inside the house. We trim the tree, listen to Christmas music and drink egg nog. We find a holiday movie like Elf and laugh together. My husband mixes up a batch of Gingerbread cookies to roll out cut up and turn into a gingerbread house. Then the kids make a huge mess, all while having fun assembling the house with icing and all the candy you can imagine. I usually get a little blog work done because the mess is more than I can handle, but the kids enjoy it and it’s the best sound in the world to hear the kids laughing in the background. We then record all of the present opening fun and share it with the grandparents who live to far away to come and visit. We also have a night somewhere in the mix of business where we watch another movie and have a Hickory Farms basket. My husband LOVES the beef stick and it comes in almost every single basket option.

For more than 60 years Hickory Farms gifts have been a classic holiday tradition that brings family and friends together. Many Americans have a distinct memory of Hickory Farms at their holiday gatherings; Hickory Farms is very proud to be a part of those nostalgic moments and continues to focus on and celebrate its long heritage of tradition and authentic holiday memories.

I didn’t grow up with Hickory Farms like my husband did so when we got married he introduced me to the brand. I remember being a newlywed couple out at the mall during the holiday season and we went up to one of those kiosks and I was overwhelmed with all of the options but my husband knew exactly what he wanted. He wanted a beef stick and a stick of cheese and a box of crackers and looking at all the gift baskets that seems to be the basic start to them so I can pick one of those up and make him happy and find some side things to get for myself, much like this basket we just received from Hickory Farms.

The melt away mints are my favorite, and so are the cookies and I love pretzels and peanut brittle. This is the package that compliments us both, salty and sweet.

A Family Holiday Tradition

Another holiday tradition we have is going to look at Christmas lights together. We do it every year and we have to have a hot drink as we go looking at lights. My husband and I treat ourselves to a coffee or hot chocolate and the kids have to have hot apple cider. Then we go looking around the neighborhood driving from house to house and following signs that say lights this way. This year our church is hosting holiday lights to Christmas music and we’re going to be hosting one of the nights as a family. I’m really excited to add this to our holiday traditions.

Everyone Loves Hickory Farms Party

I had a party before Thanksgiving and what did we have, we had Hickory Farms. LOTS of Hickory Farms and everyone went home with their own box. Ok, each couple went home with their own box, and I had a few boxes left over to give to people here and there and the response has always been.

REALLY? That’s for me? I Love Hickory Farms, or some response just like it. I have to admit it’s been so much fun sharing the boxes of Hickory Farms with those around me. I love being Santa! And Everyone LOVES Hickory Farms!

Growing up for me, we didn’t buy Hickory Farms, but for my husband this has always been a fun tradition. When we got married that year for Christmas we had to go out and get cheese and a Hickory Farms Beef Stick. I remember that it was a special meal for the two of us. Neither one of us are very big eaters, don’t get me wrong I LOVE FOOD, but we just don’t eat a large quantity, so we would get two meals out of the beef stick and cheese. We haven’t done it every single year but we talk about doing it ever single year and bought it often. This year thanks to my blog we didn’t have to buy any, and I’m still giving it away. I have one huge box left and I’m trying to decide who should get it.

So Why does everyone like Hickory Farms:

I think everyone Likes Hickory Farms for some sentimental reason. So many people have family traditions or holiday traditions wrapped around Hickory Farms. Plus the quality and taste just make you think holiday party. One of the best serving trays to make is a meat and cheese tray, and Hickory Farms includes the cheese, the sausage, and fruit, crackers, and condiments all in one box. The selection of gourmet gift baskets are filled with fresh, quality ingredients.

The Orchards Bounty basket (which contains fresh produce) was enjoyed by our whole family. The kids loved the pears, who knew they were going to like pears. Plus the oranges and apples were a great addition to the meat and cheese assortment. The basket was quite beautiful too!
