Spring into the World of Outdoor Furniture

May 13, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

As the season of warmer weather approaches, your mind is probably filled with nights of roasted marshmallows and chasing fireflies with the kids. Your outdoor plans during warm summer nights might fall more on the side of conversation with friends and burgers on the grill. Whatever your ideas for the warm season, you are probably thinking about the furniture outside of your house. If you’re starting from scratch or throwing out all of your old stuff, you are probably at a loss for what to next. Online furniture marketplaces such as Vast Market outdoor furniture can be a good place to start. Choosing outdoor furniture is easy, and there are a lot of ways that you spruce things up on your own whenever you want to update in the future.

Feet and Yards

Think about the space that this furniture will go into and who will be using it. Your yard could have grass, dirt, gravel, or stones on the ground and there is furniture for every instance.

· If you have children, you may want to consider something that can hold up to a little abuse and that also won’t hurt so badly if they happen to fall down or run into something.

· If you tend to bring your furniture inside a lot due to weather concerns or because you don’t like it’s constant exposure to the elements, then you’ll want something more lightweight that you can move around easily.

· A small yard doesn’t necessarily mean small furniture. It could mean less furniture. Survey your space and consider every possibility.

· A lot of rain in your area doesn’t mean that you can’t have outdoor furniture. You simply have to look for something that can hold up to the rain and that includes an umbrella or covering.

· Gardening might be your favorite past time. You can include your patio furniture in that function and make it work for you. This works especially well in small spaces.

· Having a lot of children around that play outside or bring their friends over can get messy. An outdoor garbage can fixes that problem. It looks better than a plastic bag attached to the doorknob and has a lot more functionality.

· Placement is crucial. You don’t want people to have to squeeze between the table and the grill just so that they can get back to their seat. Create clear walkways between furniture.

· Colors and styles aren’t as important with outdoor furniture as with your indoor furniture. Due to constant exposure to the elements, colors fade faster and stylish furniture may not be able to withstand staying outside all of the time.

· Consider the area that you live in. Does your outdoor furniture need to be secured? Although you’d like to trust all of your neighbors, you may not be able to and having to secure your furniture so that it doesn’t go missing could be something that you have to think about. There’s also the weather. Areas of high wind, or hurricane and tornado zones are not ideal for lightweight furniture unless you plan to bring it inside every time the weather takes a turn.

Tables, Chairs, and Other Such Things

Don’t worry about how many people you may have over your house at any given time or if there’s enough room on your table to fit all of the food as it comes off the grill. This is your outdoor seating. It’s extra. You still have your kitchen inside or the grass to sit on. When deciding on patio furniture, you should pay the most attention to the people that live in the house, not the people that might be your guests in the future. You may want to consider pool parties and backyard barbeques but those kinds of events most likely won’t happen every day. You and the other people that live in your house will be there every day, and when it’s warm out they will most likely use the outdoor furniture on your patio every day. In that case, you’ll want to think about what they do with their time and who will be maintaining your outdoor furniture before you buy it. An avid gardener will not want to wind their way around picnic tables and lounge chairs to get to their planters. Children will put their bicycles away a lot more often if they have a bike rack to ride them up to. Garbage won’t end up on the ground in your yard if you have an outdoor garbage can. These are functional considerations. You may also be thinking about your own needs to have a place to read and soak up the sun or to sit in the shade while you watch the kids play. There are combinations for every kind of activity. You just have to find what works for you and your yard.

It’s Not Just Computers Newegg Sells Rosewill Patio Furniture

July 18, 2012 by Momstart Leave a Comment

I had no idea that Newegg sold patio furniture, even my UPS man was confused when he was dropping off the very large delivery. He said, it’s from a computer company but it says furniture on it. I hope it’s what you asked for. It was what I asked for, it was an interesting patio set, nothing like I expected.

Featuring sturdy steel construction, and a Spice Kona finish, the Rosewill dining set has all of the components for transforming your backyard into a summer lounging area for you and your family. I love having a patio set in my backyard. We can eat meals and have drinks with friends and now I can sit outside in my backyard while the kids play.

IMG_3624

The set comes with a dining table featuring replaceable ceramic tile tops and measuring 41”x65”, two swivel rockers, and four sling dining chairs with a durable patterned mesh design.  The set is also backed with a one year warranty and retails for more than $700 but found at a great price on newegg.com. IMG_3625

As far as working with newegg.com I have to say that went very well. The table on the other hand the packaging that it comes in isn’t that great. One set of tiles was completely broken and because they were not packaged well as they moved and broke they dented our table. Newegg.com worked with us to have the tiles and table frame replaced and now the end result is amazing. I do however have to mention that living in a very wet climate we found out that even though it’s advertised as rust free it’s not rust free. My husband had to coat the table with rustolium in hopes that the table will not rust any further and that we’ll get a longer lifetime out of it. IMG_3627

The look of the table is beautiful and you can change the look just by changing out the tiles. The chairs are comfortable and easy to swivel in. My kids love playing in the chairs and I love sitting in them. IMG_3626

I’m thankful to Newegg.com for allowing us this opportunity to experience one of their new products. Newegg Inc. is a leading e-retailer committed to becoming the most loved and trusted marketplace on the web by offering superior shopping experience, rapid delivery, and stellar customer service.

The Furry Pod Black and Green or White and Pink

February 23, 2011 by Momstart 345 Comments

The Furniture Domain is a huge collection of furniture for every room in the house. I spent the day looking at all the collections of children’s beds and wow, they have a very large collection. We’ve been looking for a bed for Miles, we looked at Target, Ikea, and Sleep Country USA, but were unable to find something interesting and suitable for Miles.

At The Furniture Domain we found lots of options. I haven’t picked one yet because we’re not exactly in a position to buy one yet, but I have been on the hunt and was excited to finally see some bed options. The Furniture Domain has kindly offered one lucky reader of Mom Start a Lumisource Chair.

What is The Furry Pod you ask?Furry Pod Green and Black

The Furry Pod is a funkadellic stylish chair perfect for any children’s bedroom, or send it off to college with your college graduate this year. These colorful creatures feature thick, shaggy faux fur and comfortable padded mesh cushion. The bottom is rounded for full-tilt play! Great for gaming too as the Black and Green one reminds me of an Xbox 360. They have Built in handle for easy portability.

Memorial Day Shopping

May 31, 2010 by Momstart 7 Comments

Most people spent today, this weekend, last week resting, enjoying the sun or inside a pool. We spent all weekend looking for a new couch. Our current couch is quite an eye sore! It’s black and the cushions are all worn out from my lounging on them while I was pregnant, my husband says it’s just because the couch is almost ten years old, not because of me, but I’m sure it was me. I spent a lot of time on the couch. It is also suffering from some severe cat claw marks.

832_medium_thumbnail_1593-habartSo from store to store we went searching for the most comfortable place to rest our buts. The kids had a great time and since it rained all weekend it was a great way for the kids to get exercise. I’m sure a lot of the sales associates were a little uncomfortable with my kids jumping up and down testing out the durability of the couches, but I would hate to get home with a couch that isn’t going to stand up. Right?

We tried a place called Scan Design, it was really modern and we found a couch we loved, but it was the first store so we decided to wait. The couches there were modern, and comfortable.

We then had to go and get dinner and while we were eating at the mall we looked at couches at JCPenny. JCPenny customer service was lacking so we decided to leave without fully looking at all of the possibilities.

Home we went and we were an hour late for bedtime. The kids were so GRUMPY.

Day two started late, we went to Macy’s and the customer service there was perfect. He followed us but was far enough back that we felt comfortable looking. We jumped on them, laid on them and tried out every feature. Of course my husband being the man he is fell in love the the Entertainment Theater Style Sectional. I have to admit it was comfortable.

Then we narrowed it down to two, the Theater Style couch and the Anthony. (Why do couches get names?)

But we had more stores to check out. It is all about getting the best price and the most comfort.

We checked out Ethan Allen and although their couches are very comfortable, we couldn’t afford complete customization. We knew exactly what we wanted but once you added any type of fabric, the price goes up, and then up some more. So, I really wanted a naked couch from Ethan Allen. Maybe I should look into covering couches myself.

We checked out two other stores and went back into Scan Design. When we went back in and sat on the couch, yes it was still comfortable, but the couch had doubled in size in our heads so looking at it again we realized that we could get much more couch for the same comfort level at Macy’s. Can you imagine how tired the kids are at this points. We skipped naps on Saturday, Big mistake. Anthony

On Sunday, we went to church and took the day off from couch shopping. I think, I actually can’t remember for sure, oh yes I do, we went to Costco and that took up our entire afternoon. We decided to make a decision and picked out a couch, so we spent an hour on Monday just sitting in Macy’s making sure we wanted the couch, I wonder if this is normal behavior for picking out a piece of furniture? We wanted to make sure we had the same sales associate because he was so helpful on Saturday and spent so much time with us. We had to go to lunch and come back to make the final purchase. I talked my husband out of the Entertainment couch, and we purchased the Anthony.

Dora the explorer Christmas Carol DVD Review and #giveaway and furniture?

November 4, 2009 by Momstart 357 Comments

The Dora Christmas Carol DVD comes out soon or is out or I have no idea except that we are watching it today. Ok, so you can purchase it at Amazon.

Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure

Nick Jr.We’ve been listening to Dora’s Christmas CD for a few weeks now and my son has all the songs memorized and now that we have watched the DVD the CD makes sense. All the songs on the CD are from the DVD. It’s crazy but I’m singing the songs all day long now too. Good Grief I just can’t get away from her.

Dora the Explorer: Dora's Christmas Carol AdventureThe DVD is very cute and is teaching kids not to swipe. It seems that Swiper has made the naughty list this year and if Dora can’t teach him to stop swiping then he’ll never be good again. So Dora and Swiper travel through time learning to be good for Christmas. My husband and I were actually talking about all the different cartoons that are out there and what we watched and how the cartoon re-makes aren’t as good as the new cartoons like Dora. You know, she is teaching good lessons and  helping the world while care bears and my little ponies don’t do that anymore. They are all about themselves, yes they still have moral lessons but it’s not past them. I’m not sure if that makes sense.

My other News is that Lazy Boy and Nickelodeon have teamed up to make furniture for kids staring Dora and Diego. Lea Furniture is putting out Nickelodeon MyRoom. This new collection was developed in cooperation with Nickelodeon/Viacom Consumer Products and will feature characters from shows including Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, SpongeBob SquarePants, as well featuring graphics based on the network’s signature Slime.

Diego

Parents will find that the Nickelodeon MyRoom furniture supports creativity, independent play and customization, which are all part of kids’ development. The collection addresses these elements in six ways:

· Multi-dimensional, open-ended materials and functionality

· Furnishings that form environments and encourage different kinds of play

· Scalable when size matters

· Personal ownership

· Encouraging independence and independent play

· Play time is OK time

Playing with my kids and IKEA

April 18, 2009 by MomStart 2 Comments

IMG_0104 Today I did not get on my computer at all until after my children went to bed. We spend the day as a family and went out and enjoyed the sunshine. We also went out furniture shopping and came home empty handed. We went to IKEA and picked out a table and chair set for our dining room living room.

I must say all the choices at IKEA drive me nuts and made me dizzy. Pick your color, pick your style, pick your size, then look at the thousands of chairs we have (ok, hundreds) and then remember that and pick them up out of our warehouse full of boxes.

We need a table because we are down to three chairs and one of them is about to break and my family is coming to visit us. So we need seating for five adults. I think this is the chair I liked the most. It’s hard to tell in the picture but it is dark brown with a white cushion.

So after IKEA we went to the park to play. My daughter has to warm up to playing. She needs lots of encouragement and help, then she’s off running around. My son, complete opposite. If you let go of him he is off running and you’ll be running after him forever. He’s not even walking yet. Oh the trouble I am in when he starts walking.
